MY AIM
My aim is very simple.
I have a passion for plants and wish to bring you two types of videos.
FIRSTLY, videos that solve problems, answer gardening FAQs, provide shortcuts, tips and hints about gardening.
SECONDLY to provide introductions and information on plants that I enjoy.
I like all types of plants so my videos cover both garden plants and indoor/house plants.
I try to get straight to the point and provide information as efficiently as possible.
So I try to keep my videos short and sweet. I don't like unnecessary waffle and fluff!

WHO AM I?
My name is Matthew and I started gardening at the tender age of 5 years old.
Carrot tops in a tray of water were the first things I grew. Of course carrot tops grow
leaves but don't grow into carrots. But that doesn't matter when you're 5. Just a few leaves
sprouting out of nothing can be fascinating.
I progressed onto seeds and started off some brussels sprouts and calendula. An unusual combination but both were successful and I was hooked.
Christmases brought windowsill seed starter kits of Mesembryanthemum, French Marigolds and Godetia and a box containing some compost, a plastic pot and a huge bulb -a Hippeastrum (Amaryllis).
Over the years I have grown a lot of different plants. I have tried most types at one time or another. Alpines, perennials, annuals, carnivorous, cactus, patio plants, houseplants, pond plants, bonsai, spring/summer bulbs etc. It's a long list.
Do I know it all? Have I grown them all? Heck no!
There is always another plant, another technique, another idea to try for the first time. There are so many varieties of plants in the world that it'd be impossible to grow them all, even in 10 lifetimes.
But that also means that it's impossible to get bored with gardening.
We may not always have great success with particular plants and every gardener has a failure or a poorly performing plant every year but there's always next season to try again!
I think gardeners are on the most part, a happy and healthy bunch. We're always looking forward to each new year with its opportunities to plant something new, to try again and to refresh.
I am convinced that gardening is the greatest therapy of all.

I’ve watched other vids that let theirs dry out. The leaves can get very, very large and tall.
In general Philodendrons aren't as dramatic when they dry out as some other plants, but they would rather more even watering, you shouldn't let them dry out for very long periods of time.
I agree with @Gee-xb7rt and I keep mine slightly moist and don't see any advantage or need to allow drying between watering. Do the other videos suggest that if you allow them to dry out between watering the growth will be smaller? You're right about them growing large, they do need space but look fantastic when they do get big.
Question: why are the nodes on mine not producing roots? I also had 3 nodes that didn't produce leaves. Thank you in advance.
Interesting. I have not counted the number of rootless nodes before! I find that nodes are more likely to produce roots if they are in direct contact with the material (moss pole, stake, branch) that the plant is climbing. Lengths of stem that have some rootless nodes are more common with growths that are hanging in air and are not actively attached to, or climbing a support. I wouldn't worry about rootless nodes unless the plant is obviously suffering. Most plants will prioritise root growth over leaf growth if there are insufficient roots. Many of the roots on plants such as these are climbing roots that help the plant to climb and anchor to its support whilst the roots lower down at the base of the plant in the pot will take up most of the plant's water requirement. If you want to encourage rooting at the nodes I would tie the stems tightly (temporarily tight) to the support and directly mist the stems every couple of days to keep the nodes moist whilst reducing overall watering so that you force the plant to increase its root mass. But if all looks ok apart from a few rootless nodes, your plant is probably in good health. ;-)
@@plantwithmattI plan to propagate mine soon since it's gotten really tall. Will the rootless nodes be an issue when propagating? Itll be my first time propagating and I am worried that I will harm my florida green.
It went into a period of dormancy for a month after I repotted it. There has been an increase in temperature and low humidity. What should I do!!
Just wait. Give it time to settle. As long as its not falling apart and shedding leaves then it'll be fine. If there is a natural increase in temperature as summer comes that will also help to stimulate growth.
I have a very tall Florida Green that needs to be chopped. Not sure if I should wait till Spring. It's now Jan 13, 2024. I will have to poke a hole in my ceiling if it continues along this path.It will NOT grow OUT...bushy. Since I have excellent grow lights on it, I'm tempted to chop it down soon. Thanks for showing the entire plant. So many videos do not.

Have you cut it yet? If not, I agree with @yolyrom7233 and would say just go ahead and chop it wherever you want to. It will produce a new lead growth from one of the uppermost nodes so you can cut anywhere and it won't hurt the plant at all. The topcut can then be potted up as a new plant or if its quite long, cut into several smaller lengths to give you many new plants.
