    • @PuddinsFabShop

You’re something special if you think I set it on fire on purpose. The gas tracked to my hand because the gas tank is higher in the box of the truck so the gas shoots out of the supply hose because of the weight of the gas. Damn you gravity. I tried to isolate that hose that was kinked, it unkinks and starts spraying fuel which is why the fire gets even bigger. Both my east wall and west wall have a fire extinguisher mounted to it for emergencies. ( if you keep a fire extinguisher in your shop don’t keep it in a hard to get to spot, kind of pointless to have one and not have access to it). Watch any of my videos and you’ll see my extinguishers.
Now watch the video back that you may understand what happened and feel free to apologize, or not most people have a hard time owning up to stuff when they are wrong.

My daughter's nearly 2 and she just loves being all in the way when I'm working on a car but I will never complain a second about it I just hope and pray she keeps the interest in cars that she has now in her world she's a mechanic already and doesn't even have a clue what's going on she's playing in her mind and that's her favorite game to play and it's some of my favorite memories I have spending time with her... continue make those memories and teach her these are some of the best memories she will never forget... i respect the hell out of you for being a real man and great father not many around these days...

When I was 18 I was working at an auto repair shop, and this sweet 1998 Mercury Merkur XR4Ti was towed in from the body shop down the street. The guys over there brought it to us to troubleshoot a no start condition. One of the mechanics at the shop wanted to check for spark so he removed a plug and laid it onto a ground there in the engine compartment. Just as the boss walks over to see what is going on, another guy cranks the engine over. He learned very quickly she was making spark because the fuel injection sprayed gas up out of the spark plug hole, across the spark plug and ignited a giant fire ball in the bosses face. He ended up getting very singed and his right arm took about 6 months to heal up. It was a good thing there was a fire extinguisher handy. When my boss caught on fire, he completely forgot about stop, drop and roll, and proceeded to fan the flames by waving his arm around. A quick thinking employee with an extinguisher put him out.

Hot Damn! Glad you got that fire under control quick. Live and learn my friend, live and learn. I once caught a 1994 F150 parts truck on fire. it had sat a few years before I drug it home. I decided it was a good idea to push the schrader valve on the fuel rail with a screwdriver, guess I was gonna judge by how funky the fuel smelled if it was gonna run or not. Needless to say the fuel was still good... Lol. Think I ended up getting some fuel spray on or near the distributor, because when I bumped the key she went "poof". To make matters worse the truck was sitting on a wooden deck car trailer, it was also hooked to my old lady's car via jumper cables, so there was plenty of extra fuel around for the fire had things gotten out of hand. I slammed the hood down on the truck and ran over and got the hose, ended up putting the fire out with the hose through the wheel wells.
Learned my lesson the hard way that day, luckily nothing of value was lost, it's a Ford so it started and backed off the trailer despite having been on fire like a half hour earlier. I've always kept a couple fire extinguishers in the garage ever since.

    1. I had a '76 IH with a 345 IH motor. I re-routed the old Power steering high pressure line for some reason, and it split a month later. Sprayed hot PS juice onto a really hot exhaust manifold and became a flamethrower all over inside the engine bay. Rewired it, replaced the rubber parts, and it started right up!
    2. I had 3 or 4 Ford Couriers after the oil embargo "crisis", and they were all gutless wonders. Aerodynamics is your friend; grab a spare hood off .5 or .25 and mount it as a wind deflector on top of the cab. That cargo box is a big air brake. 3. I highly recomend replacing the timing belt on any engine you want to keep. Ask me how I know.☹

Whole car burned to the ground on the side of I-94 in probably February '93? It happened to me but I could be off a year. 1978 Ford ltd wagon, army green mil surp bought at the Albuquerque Auto Auction. I used it to move me and my girlfriend back to Michigan, had her civic on a tow dolly behind it. All went well until thr RR wheel bearing failed and most likely became red hot, something ignited and the right rear tire started to burn. I pulled over, probably should have tried to keep driving to the next exit, hindsight, in any event as soon as we were stopped the fire engulfed the vehicle and to a large extent everything we owned. It was tragic as far as property loss but no one was injured and we got a ride out of there. The vehicle and everything in it was a total loss. But we were fine. Yes I caught one on fire.
Also had a Chevy Astro van drivers side widow regulator fail and catch flame while I was driving it. Fortunately I was able to get it home and get the fire out before much more then the door panel was damaged.

Lucky I decided to have a look under the hood where a flame was taking hold. I calmed my panicked gal and walked to the back where I keep an extinguisher and put it out. I drove her home a short way and drive myself 30 miles home knowing full well my engine was as good as dead.

I’m sure you know this already but my old taught me to wind a nut on a stud it bolt before cutting it. Then you wind the nut off and it automatically cleans the thread up. This saves trying and hoping that a nut will go in after cutting the bolt. Thanks for that dad!

From my first weld job to the first transmission swap on the side of the road. All great memories. I'm 31 now and started with an 84 fiero at 13 and have been teaching myself along the way. I'll never forget the summer I got that car. I slept in it more times then I can count pulling all nighters in the garage trying to wire in a 3800 motor. Ever since then I've taught myself little by little along the way with a quick glance at a Chilton's and now Google there's nothing backyard mechanics can't do. And all the little know how I can't wait to teach my son.
