    I am a builder and have used this watch every day for the last 4 months. I have properly abused this watch! Constantly smacking it off things. Its been covered in plaster, cement, bonding adhesive and bodger foam. getting saw dust and sand in all the little cracks. I give it a scrub in the shower in the evening and all the dirt and bits of concrete drop off. When it gets really dirty I give it a scrub with a toothbrush. The rubber doesn't seem to bond with anything. Its amazing! It still looks new! And it actually looks better as the rubber dulls slightly, like a matt blackish. If you buy one, abuse it. Don't treat it nicely!! You don't need to....

    I wish Casio would make an ABC watch with both sunrise/sunset and moon phase.
    The G-Shock GW9400 is too big for me, but I do have a Pathfinder PAW2000 that I like a lot. Like the GW9400, the PAW2000 does include the sunrise/sunset feature.

      Thanks LD. Certainly is! So many useful features and for under $300!!! It still amazes me.... Even when its just sitting on the shelf, I still use it.
      A quick glace at the world time or barometer to check the weather, always comes in useful. Also I like the security of not having to depend on the internet or smart phone for weather/time/tracking. It really is the best bit outdoor/survival gear I have.

    Hi TGV. Thank you for a great review.
    I own G-Shock G-9300 Mudman since 2016. I have intensively worn/used it every day running errands, for travel trips, in the ocean, during firearm trainings and construction times. It is a beast. With 7 years of intensive usage, I only change the band once because the little loose part that holds both bands together once u wear the watch got torn. Otherwise, it is an excellent time peace and I am very happy til this day. The only down part I would mention when we compare the Mudman with the Rangeman the buttons on Mudman are hard and takes a bit pressure using your fingers to press each button. Vs. Rangeman is easier to use. I use most of its features as well.
    Thanks

    I agree with you that the rangeman is probably the best ABC watch in the market, at least in terms of functionality and toughness.
    In short, if there was a nuclear war or some other global catastrophe or zombie/alien invasion, this would be the watch I carry to increase my scarce chances of survival...
    Anyway, from an aestetic point of view, I would not change my Protrek PRW 6000 with the rangeman.
    II think that the Protrek is the right watch for almost any occasion: office, outdoor, everyday life AND the end of the world.
    If I am going to die, let's do it with style!

    Nice unit, I have several beater digital every day watches some even with atomic radio time keeping function . The thing I really look for now is titanium case sapphire and metal band and all digital display ( no hands ) . The closest I have is a Citizen U600 unfortunately it does have a multitude of mechanical hands. The reason I don't want mechanical hands is it makes is much more robust.
    Keep up the good work

    Thanks for posting this video. I'm so on the fence about getting one of these. I think the size of the thing for me might be the biggest drawback. I do have an ancient G-Shock DW 6100 that does the sunrise-sunset and temperature quite nicely and two years ago got a Protrek PRW-2500 which I love. Still, over 90% of the comments I've seen about this watch are extremely positive. Anyway, thanks again for posting this.

      lostwombat14 You are very welcome.
      I hope you find what you are looking for. If size is an issue, may I recommend the PRW-3000.
      It may not be as robust as the range man but its much smaller and sleeker.
      Let me know how you get on, and please forgive the late reply, I was on vacation.

    Great review makes me miss my Casio Pathfinder I had a few years back. +1 on the body heat throwing off the thermometer but I really don't think there is anyway to fix that, the body's gonna give off heat no matter what but these watches are meant to be taken off and laid flat on a tree stump or the ground when using most of the functions.

    14:02 you don't need to take off the watch to get the right temperature reading. Only have to do is adjust the reading while the watch is on your wrist /15 min at least/ to the thermometer in the room where you are. You can get pretty accurate temperature readings like this while wearing your watch.

    • @CoreyBrass
      @CoreyBrass 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. Your wrist will stay pretty close to the same temp if you're outside in 50°f or 70°f. I thought I could try that hack but it isn't effective and what makes it worse is when you then want an accurate reading like the morning weather while camping you can't get one. It is best to accurately set it with a thermometer before a trip and then when you need it take it off for 20 to 30 min.

    Hey nice review! If possible could you please do a review on the new GWG1000 Mudmaster as I'm contemplating buying one however I would appreciate your thoughts on the matter before I fork out the hefty pricetag. I personally feel that the Rangeman has sunset sunrise where as the Mudmaster does not, also the light on the Rangeman is better than the light on the Mudmaster. However the Mudmaster is such a good looking piece and has the benefit of the sapphire crystal which I'm a big fan of. If you could do a review it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    I know this is an old video now, but it doesn't have your usual enthusiasm that you bring. Your video's have been a large inspiration for me and one of the key things that got me into horology. Not sure if you were having a "off day" or just not feeling it for this watch, either way it's great to see the energy you have put into more recent videos. People at work find it funny that I go from a G-Shock one day to an Omega the next, very different watches but they both bring me joy. Would be interested to know if you still have a passion for this watch or if it's just collecting dust somewhere? All the best.

    I'm thinking of going for the Protrek PRW 3000 since I think it looks better and want a black watch with a negative display around this price. But I love the durability of a G Shock. Is the PRW 3000 going to last me as long?

    Great progress report. I was just thinking can we expect another progress report let's say 1 year of use :D that would be awesome. I have mine Rangeman for about 3 months and i was wondering did you had any problems with yours during the winter like condensation uder the glass or something like that? I love that watch so much that I have decided get rid of all my other G Shock-s and leav just that one for me this is The ultimate G Shock if not the ultimate watch :D. I ask you about the condensation because i had that problem with one of my other G Shock-s. Тhanks in advance for your answer. Cheers :)

    If this watch had a vibrating alarm, I would buy it right now. Can someone help me with a suggestion of a similar watch? I want a similar design, construction quality, and price range, except with the option for vibrating alarms and needs to at least be a Twin Sensor for thermometer readings.

    • @muzza9338
      @muzza9338 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the lack of responses speaks good itself! No issue with the lugs brother... It's an urban myth. According to the Casio Australia repair Center they have never seen broken lugs on a rangeman an in fact stated that this model was one of their most robust units made. Mate you'll never break it.....

  • @JamesParus

    agree, everyone needs one atomic radio watch, it's the easiest way to set other watches according to it. I used to set the time to android app(gps time?), but you need to wait for the phone to get the gps signal and all that nonsense.

    • @theurbangentry
      @theurbangentry  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely!!
      Like I just said to Lord David in the comments above....

    • @JamesParus
      @JamesParus 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      78pianist i think seiko? Does watches that take the time from gps satellites directly. Expensive for Seiko, but they do exist.

    • @theurbangentry
      @theurbangentry  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      78pianist hi 78pianist, I got this Rangeman after owning 4 other various ABC watches, please refer to my "ABC watch Showdown Video", the link is in the description of this video. If I recall correctly, the Garmin Fenix 2 had GPS. It was an AMAZING watch, and really shows what watches of the future will be like. It has everything! However, as you will see in my overview, it lost out to the Rangeman as it wasn't as tough and I prefer the features of the Rangeman, and far to big in size for me personally. But check it out, it might be just be what you are looking for. Hope that helps!
      :-)

      @78pianist 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, TGV. I will certainly look into it. Can you tell me how long did the battery last in the Garmin before you had to charge it up?

    I couldn't agree with you more. I also like that you can hit the lower right button and activate the stop watch instantly . You don't have to find the stop watch first. Hit the button and boom. Very casual review for you. Either you just dropped an Old Fashion or your favorite female has distracted you but still I enjoyed the slightly more casual video. Thanks.

      Relax and enjoy... You'll never break the lugs on this model.. There have been 6 reported breaks in 3 years compared to the thousands sold.. Of the 6, 2 could not be verified, one was caused through an atv crash and the remaining 3 looked like the most beat up watches I've ever seen....

  • @JLUnit416

    I know I'm very late to the party and don't expect a reply; but I was very much on the fence with upgrading my 7900 to this 9400 for several years and I'm nowhere close to making a final decision. But I do totally agree that the previous generation back light was superior and while your video had the best example of the 9400's back light, that's still the feature I dislike the most about it.

    • @theurbangentry
      @theurbangentry  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Geert Matthys Haha, but not really, its more a case of what is fitting for the occasion/purpose or place. Example, the g-shock is great for hunting/camping or even doing DIY around the house etc, The Sub or any diver for casual EDC and a dress watch obviously with a suit or tux for formal wear. But, really it's more about function that fits the occasion for me. Thanks for your support and welcome to the channel!
