In a world of planned obsolescence products that are meant to be thrown away Casio has become my favorite brand... These watches communicate durability, pragmatism and functionality. I got a Pro Trek PRT 30 for Christmas in 1999 which has been in use almost every day and still runs perfectly. I just love it. Gonna get my 5610 soon.
I’ve got both of these watches but the Rangeman in specific has been used many times to predict rainstorms (down to the minute) which is really nice when you’re motorcycling or cycling. Really really nice. The compass helps me not half to bust out the real compass during hikes, and the altimeter is used all time to estimate location on long hiking ascents. I’ve found the atomic clock keeping to be extremely accurate, I’ve brought them to numerous New Year’s eve locations abroad and it’s accurate down to the second every single time. I’ve been swimming in them, dropped and banged them against everything. I love my Automatic Seikos, but G-Shocks are the ultimate in watch design IMO. Everything else (Rolex, Audemars, whatever) I just fluff or excess (read: art).
I bought both of these watches due to this video. A year later of heavy use and I couldn’t be more happy! Thank you for taking the time to make this video 💪🏻
Back then I wanted to buy the GWM 5610 becoz I thought the GW-9400 is too big for me. Tested it on my wrist and it was fine. I still want the GWM5610 but can't justify it (yet) becoz the GW-9400 already has everything and more than I need.
Had my 5610 for a number of years now, it’s been to several military zones plus Artic and Antarctic. Best watch in the world today. That is not a statement but a FACT.
Ive had my Rangeman for close to 8 years now, I still marvel at what a great watch it is. Still my favourite in my collection and it is basically my EDC. Love Casio and really enjoyed your video.
As someone who owns a few expensive Swiss watches I have to say my g shock gets more wrist time than any of them I love my g shock also such a good travel companion!
I have collected many Casios, mostly Pathfinders and G-Shocks. Out of the collection both the GWM5610 and the GW9400 are my most favorites. In short there are a ton of G-Shocks but price compared to features the 9400 beats them all and the simplistic charm of and design of the 5610 keeps me from putting it down. All my other watches sit in my case ignored and sad. Your video is perfect.
Great Video. Ive had the green one for a few years and love it. Some notes: It's actually the barometer sensor that's working as the altimeter, I find its usually accurate to about 100 feet, but needs to be calibrated before a hike at the trailhead. Because of this I don't use it to predict weather on hikes, unless I'm staying at the same altitude, in that case its very accurate as you said. Having a reliable digital thermometer is actually awesome, although it needs to be away from your body to work properly and not on your wrist. I find it really useful in a tent pocket or on a nightstand in a hotel room, anytime when you can't trust what the ambient temp is. As a runner, the instant start stopwatch is awesome. When I'm doing any outdoor activity or weekend adventure, this is the watch on my wrist. The biggest advantage it has over an Apple Watch or Garmin, is it's no fuss solar charge. One final note: my wrist is 6.75 and I usually prefer a 39mm watch, but love to rock my huge rangeman.
Totaly agree! And totaly agree with you Evan, especially when it comes to the comparison with the Daytona!!! Please keep going the great work and stay healthy! Greetings from Germany🇩🇪

There is no way I would add a G-Shock to my collection.... but.... I am a watch nerd and I read about the history, the robustness, the features. I love a good tool watch! I currently have 2 GWM 5610’s in my collection, one with a positive display and one negative, and a slew of other G’s, some solar/atomic and some not. I have automatic watches in my collection too, but I think the G Shocks are my favorites because of their toughness and ease of use.
Hi, may I ask you which display is more convenience? I'm hesitating the positive display and negative, I like the negative one because it looks very cool. But this watch is a prefect tool that I need it to check time quickly.

This video is amazingly well produced. I am looking at getting a rangeman, which is how I found your video, and I’m currently wearing the square in your video. One of the big advantages of the rangeman for me seems to be the easy to push buttons. I would like that a lot.

Accuracy, indestructibility, affordability, fun ...and... function. There's a lot of watch I would like to buy, but they mostly just tell the time (and date). Given my active lifestyle, G-Shock is the one I reach for and use daily.
I’ve had a GW6900-1 with tough solar for 7 years and it’s just so damn reliable and such a badass watch for only $90. Not one issue with it. I recently picked up the GWM5610-1 for something a little more low profile but all the same features. I love the white backlight on it compared to the green in my older one. I use a Garmin Fenix 6x sapphire for trail running and hiking but I will one day add the rangeman to my collection bc of the altimeter offering, plus it just looks badass.
I have several G-Shock squares. But I've never owned a big boy G-Shock. I'm usually intimidated by their big bulky size. But that Rangeman looks so good, that it makes me really wanna try it.

But now, I have 3 watches - one Omega Seamaster which is only worn on special ocasions or business meetings and these 2 beasts. And they are 2 best watches ive ever had, I dont really need to care of them, very comfortable and good looking in normal/casual style.
That’s my lineup. A 5610 has served me faithfully for a year, and (partly) influenced by your great video, I have just ordered a Rangeman. I need these two, nothing less, nothing more. 👍
Amazing video! I personally own a 5610 and its been with me during my time in the military. It held up effortlessly during combat exercises in the woods, or while doing hard manual labor. It was by my side at the toughest moments during training, including climbing a 300m stone wall in the alps vertically, (i never climbed before so i was really nervous hah, i even fell but thank god i had safety equipment:D) I cannot recommend this watch enough. You never have to worry about it and it does everything it promises without asking for anything in return.
@@crubrutockcsgo the 5610 is a basic watch with near 100% reliability in every conditions. Sometimes less is more, not everyone needs an altimeter or a compass on his watch. And the 9400 is really big, I have rather thin wrists and that watch looks huge on them compared to the 5610.
I have both models (just the 5610 updated model - GW-M5610U). And I like so much more the readability of the display in the M5610U, especially the month and date. The Rangeman's month and date are much worse due to a different font numbers (very poorly distinguished seven, three), and even that area of the screen is darkened, which further worsens the readability. Besides, the Rangeman has much more unwanted shadows on the screen. But the Rangeman has its good features (and for me it is not a barometer or altimeter, which I don't care about).
This is the best review of Casio digital watches I have seen in a while. I m really glad u highlighted the most important aspect of Casio digital watches. I like Casio digital watches bcz I don't have to worry about battery life , don't have to charge it every week like those stupid smart watches. These watches are inexpensive, and robust and durable unlike the analog mechanical watches. Furthermore they have all the basic functionality which everyone uses on a daily basis like time, date, month stopwatch, timers, backlight for night vision. I really appreciate Casio for these watches.
"They're fun because, well, look at all the buttons and stuff."🤣🤣🤣 Seriously though, I own both of these watches amongst the other 23 watches I've accumulated over the years. They are some of my favorites and I use them to set my other time pieces. Good review! I like your philosophy about what we wear on our wrists, being not of money, but, "what makes us smile."👍
I've owned a lot of watches in my life but I have a hard time wearing anything other than my Rangeman. It's an indispensable part of my every day life.
own the 5610 - indeed it's a very useful piece of equipment and also dependable. only thing i dislike a lot, is the strap, I'm not a big fan of wearing watches as tight as possible, and if you set it a bit loose, it will keep sliding around, given that the one side of the strap is shorter than the other. from what i can see, it's the same thing with the Rangeman...
Just got my 2nd Rangeman. I also bought almost indestructible yet affordable true multiple-instantly-changeable true GMT watch - Casio Royale AE1200WH; need-not-to-baby burner watch (if there’s such a term) Casio analog Field Watch MRW200H, all within 3 months. They are fun to have.
I received these watches today. Now I have 4 G-shocks and love them. A few words about the watches in this video, so far: 5610 is more comfortable to carry around due to the lightweight and better fit on the wrist. The only drawback with 9400 is the long flat back. It makes the watch tending to move to the sides of the wrist. It could be better designed.
Nice comparison video. Currently the Rangeman GW-9400-1 is my daily watch. I try other watches, but keep coming back to this one as it is reliable, tough, great auto backlight, good fit and highly functional. If I ever got another G-Shock it would probably be the GW-6900-1 or the GWM-5000U-1 with the softer strap and screw-down backplate and the slim profile.
I have a number of Casio's including a GW5610 blackout, a GW6900 and a vintage G510 stainless steel. I've admired this gw9400 for a long while now but the size is a little daunting even though I have a 7.3 inch wrist. So close to buying one after watching your video which is one of the best I've seen on this model.
You Sir, have a very good potential with this channel, pleas keep up quality videos like this coming! Would love to see more gshock videos! Greetings from Argentina!
I've had the exact same Rangeman for more than four years now and the indestructibility and tough solar makes this absolutely worth it. I don't even care that i don't get atomic timekeeping in my part of the world. Absolute beast of a watch and my aim to keep this going for a decade or more, if possible.
It took me the majority of a lifetime to realize that G-Shocks are the best watches on the planet bar none, no excuses needed for wearing one. Excellent vid too.
i have a riseman and a stealth gd350. i think you should include the blacked out latter too. it's not only stunning but it has arguably got the best negative display in the gshock line-up due to its large digital display and it's as cheap as a macaroon.
I had the original when it first came out in '83. Used it for many years as an Electrician and really beat the crap out of it. One day the strap broke and then I'd put it in my pocket unit the day I lost it. I really loved that watch but, I moved on and bought a more expensive watch.... Now I'm much older and feeling a little nostalgic. So I bought the 5610 and absolutely love it. No more setting it or worrying about batteries. Great features but the only thing that bugs me is the illumination is different and it doesn't glow as nice as the old one.
I own the Rangeman, the GA6900 and the M5610. My Rangeman is my oldest G Shock. It survived getting run over by an MRAP, getting shot at overseas and getting dropped in a vat of acrylic paint (that sucked) and it’s still going strong. My GW6900 is still my favorite looks wise, although it doesn’t necessarily fit me. The M5610 is my newest and fits me the best. I just ordered a 3rd party combo bracelet for the 5610 and a new bezel and strap for the 6900. I can’t wait.
Yes, in this watches I feel free, because I don't have to worry about them. That is what I most like about them. They are much more fun than luxury watches. Since I realized this, I have sold some of my automatic watches and bought some Casio Vintage watches. :) More happyness for less money.
I had some mechanical affordable watches before, I pretty much laughed at G-Shocks for their size...then bought for my work trips abroad M5610. 6 years later it is pretty much the only one I wear anymore... Now I got GW-6900 for easier buttons and its even more to my taste. I´d say the same as you - Give it a try! I hated them before and now searching for more :D
G shock square 5610... Love them... So much so I have three of them in different colourways... If you don't use the alarm or the light... It'll go on for really easily for more than 15 years plus...... Without wearing down the cell...
Ok... had no need or desire to watch this video... I am almost 50 and still wear G-Shocks as a matter of function... but something kept me watching... watching to end (rare)... must say... good video. Koodo to you... subscribed
Thanks for the amazing comparison and reviews and your message at the end.....Priceless and invaluable life lesson. Amazing video! I personally own a 5610 and its been with me during my time in the military. It held up effortlessly during combat exercises in the woods, or while doing hard manual labor. It was by my side at the toughest moments during training, including climbing a 300m stone wall in the alps vertically, (i never climbed before so i was really nervous hah, i even fell but thank god i had safety equipment:D)
I cannot recommend this watch enough. You never have to worry about it and it does everything it promises without asking for anything in return.
Have 5 gshocks to include a Nixon regulus MK1. 5610 gets the most wrist time.😁
but a rangeman gw 9400 is a even better version of a 5610 tho, so shouldn't you recommend that?
Just ordered my first G shock and looking forward to it. (GW5000U)
Agree, has been using them since they first came out in the 80s, nothing better!!, great video!!
"They're fun because, well, look at
all the buttons and stuff."🤣🤣🤣
Seriously though, I own both of these watches amongst the other 23 watches I've accumulated over the years.
Best video about GWM510 - Im almost ready to buy one for my birthday in 1 may :)
own the 5610 - indeed it's a very useful piece of equipment and also dependable. only thing i dislike a lot, is the strap, I'm not a big fan of wearing watches as tight as possible, and if you set it a bit loose, it will keep sliding around, given that the one side of the strap is shorter than the other. from what i can see, it's the same thing with the Rangeman...
Here to vouch for the GW-B5600! All the features of the GWM5610U-1 but also Bluetooth features as well!
The music is mezmerizingly great, the video is amazingly edited and the review is spot on.
Perfection of a video
jalel, how old are you and how long do you use the internet?
Just got the: DW5600, GWM5610, GA2100-1A1, GAB2100-1A1. Time to move onto this GW9400 and a GW5000!!!
Perfect video for a size comparison
First time I’ve heard “vision quest” in a watch related video, and I’m here for it.
Thanks for a valuable review! You just helped me to choose my third G-shock, and it will be GW-9400-1ER.
Update: I just ordered both these watches!
I can't wait...
I received these watches today. Now I have 4 G-shocks and love them.
A few words about the watches in this video, so far:
5610 is more comfortable to carry around due to the lightweight and better fit on the wrist.
The only drawback with 9400 is the long flat back. It makes the watch tending to move to the sides of the wrist. It could be better designed.
I have the Desert Camo Rangeman GW9400. Best G-Shock for military (me), law enforcement, first responder, etc.
You’re videos are consistently great 👍🏻
Nice comparison video.
So close to buying one after watching your video which is one of the best I've seen on this model.
i have a 7 inch wrist and it does feel huge on my wrist. it sits pretty high too.
this video was top quality I am surprised you have such low number of subscribers. I am glad I enjoyed.
This video is really well done and you covered the content perfectly. Subscribed! More G-Shock videos!!
I have this watch and it quickly became one of my top watches
You Sir, have a very good potential with this channel, pleas keep up quality videos like this coming! Would love to see more gshock videos! Greetings from Argentina!
Really good review. Helps seeing the rangeman against a square G for size comparison.
I've had the exact same Rangeman for more than four years now and the indestructibility and tough solar makes this absolutely worth it. I don't even care that i don't get atomic timekeeping in my part of the world.
Absolute beast of a watch and my aim to keep this going for a decade or more, if possible.
Got mine recently and I use phone app to use multiband 6. It works well
@@Captainsting Wow! could you share some more? App name... some tutorial link... etc? I had no idea this was possible.
GW9400 is a modern classic! And might i add, the newest version GWM5610U is even better now! 👍
“Because…..look at all the buttons and stuff.” Succinct and accurate.
Yes, I definitely need to get the 5610, but Rangeman is olso very nice thing to have it All-In. Great watches
@Douglas Pantera why better?
Wow, where has this channel been all my life? Love your content, I subscribed!
It took me the majority of a lifetime to realize that G-Shocks are the best watches on the planet bar none, no excuses needed for wearing one. Excellent vid too.
Yeah me too...after my boys took my automatics, I switched to G-Shock Rangeman.
i have a riseman and a stealth gd350. i think you should include the blacked out latter too. it's not only stunning but it has arguably got the best negative display in the gshock line-up due to its large digital display and it's as cheap as a macaroon.
Insane features. Unbreakable. My GW-9400 is enough but I want a GW-B5600MG too.
You are making a good point about the size, I tried the 5610 today and was surprised how small it acutally wears on wrist.
It’s so comfy. Definitely my relaxing at home watch.
Very nicely presented and spoken in relation to how it is actually a watch that shows not just your wallet size. 🍻👏👏👏
I already have the square and love it, but wow I think you just sold me on the Rangeman.
My favorites are the Rangeman and the Moon and Tide (G7900)
My new GWM 5610-1 arrived today. Great watch!!
Theres some cool protreks that fall in here too.👍
This is just the kind of video that makes you buy both of them!
Rangeman is my favorite gshock of all time! Great job explaining the functions!
Yes, in this watches I feel free, because I don't have to worry about them. That is what I most like about them. They are much more fun than luxury watches. Since I realized this, I have sold some of my automatic watches and bought some Casio Vintage watches. :) More happyness for less money.
They both, best choice from GShok!
Excellent, simply practical and real world explanation.
I have the rangeman GW 9400 I love it. Andy England 🇬🇧👍
I hated them before and now searching for more :D
nice review... love how you make the review...most specially the RANGEMAN-GW9400, which i am planning to order it at Amazon..thanks for the review.
G shock square 5610... Love them... So much so I have three of them in different colourways...
If you don't use the alarm or the light... It'll go on for really easily for more than 15 years plus...... Without wearing down the cell...
bang on review! I both of these watches and love them both equally.
Ok... had no need or desire to watch this video... I am almost 50 and still wear G-Shocks as a matter of function... but something kept me watching... watching to end (rare)... must say... good video. Koodo to you... subscribed
Came across your channel, after watching this awesome video, I have subscribed. Great work. Thank you and greetings from 🇨🇦
great video, great watches, love the music and the edits. thanks for the review
Best tool watches these two, plus the older mudman and the Garmin instinct tactical, perfect tool watches.
I have many casio watches, a few G-s, protrek-s, illuminators, but tomorow the Rangeman is coming!!!!
Thanks for the amazing comparison and reviews and your message at the end.....Priceless and invaluable life lesson.
Anyone with money can buy a Rolex (and hey more power to them, I'd love one) but the reality is....Only those who are real watch lovers can Rock a vintage Seiko 5, a Classic or Modern Casio and ofcourse any of the amazing G shocks!!!
P.s I have the 5610...its a no Brainer.
Great background music man. Bladerunner like atmospheres
I live in London. I go nowhere exciting barring work and the local pub.
But i am now CONVINCED I NEED a Rangeman.
I only own these two watches. Best watches hands down.
My favorite is the rangeman, g7900, and both mudman models
Absolutely GREAT choices! Never met anyone else who likes all of the models i do...you just forgot the G 9100 Gulfman cheers
I love my g-7900!
