    k.d. lang got a lot of attention for this song (Grammy, etc) and rightly so. But she is so much more and should be recognized for her totally amazing set of pipes. Thanks to Imadrummin for reminding us of this gem. I’m surprised that Harri seemed to be unfamiliar with this. He was a joy to watch with that smile on his face. 🌺✌️

    Spectacular KD. From her 1992, 2nd album, Ingenue, this is such a beautiful song. Winner of Grammy for Best Pop vocal in 1993 and a MTV Video Music Award.
    The spiraling multi track of her harmonies, wafling over a base of acoustic guitar, accordian and xylophone
    drive home the compelling melody. It was written by KD and Ben Mink.
    KD's voice is so full bodied, rich with emotion and has a spine tingling penetration. Phenomenal. I love her.❤
    Glad you loved it Harri. Great reaction. Thanks Harri and Imadrummin. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

    It's her biggest song. Won a slew of awards, and was on the radio, constantly. I remember her from the 80s, when I was in high school. She fronted some cow punk band in Canada, while I lived in Detroit, and watched her on channel 9. Her energy was infectious, and I was pleasantly surprised when she became a big star in the 90s.

  • @itzel1735
    @itzel1735 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    Agree. Such a voice!
    This song probably isn’t mentioned because is was THE song. “Constant Craving” won the 1993 Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and was nominated for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Ingenue was nominated for Album of the year. MTV awarded it for best female video. ASCAP gave it a most performed pop song award. And kd and co-writer Ben Mink got songwriter credits on The Rolling Stones song “Anybody Seen My Babe” because the chorus unconsciously ended up in the Stones song. Someone’s daughter (Jagger’s or Richard’s) had been playing Ingenue at home and inspired the 1997 song from the Stones.

    Best voice since Karen Carpenter. This song and Miss Chatelaine are two of my
    favourites. Love the accordion. Might be an organ sounding like an accordion.
    Doesn't matter, like the sound. For some strange reason it always makes me
    think of one of those outdoor Paris cafe's. Don't know why, I've never been there.
    I think the backup vocals is actually K.D.'s voice being overdubbed to harmonize
    with herself. Anybody know for sure?

    She emerged from small town Alberta in the early 80s, channeling Patsy Cline and touring with her band The Reclines. I first saw her perform live at the Rainbow Bistro in Ottawa in 1985, based on a friend’s recommendation. It was the upper floor of a smallish club that held maybe a hundred people. She was dressed in “cowgirl” regalia much like Patsy might have been. One vivid memory is of k. d. picking up a world globe, giving it a spin and then, slapping it to a stop whilst breaking into “Stop The World and Let Me Off. I wound up buying a tshirt and CD direct from the woman herself. What a night. I’ve seen her a few times since then and she never disappoints. One of the great voices and one of the great entertainers of our time.

      She was as much a performance artist back then. I remember first seeing her on the "Midnight Special" tv show with the Reclines. She was dressed in a cowgirl dress with a crewcut and was something to behold. She clearly loves country music, but her act was very tongue and cheek. She was never embraced by Nashville really-even though she was arguably one of the best Country singers. This song and her Ingenue record in general marked her departure from the cowgirl persona she had embraced earlier..

    After she left country music and the "Reclines" (such a tragedy for country music), she continued to produce brilliant music, but not on the level of "k.d. lang and the Reclines" (lower case emphasized). "F" mainstream white sexist country. "Country" lost one of its greatest contributors. She was Patsy Cline reincarnated, and then some. "Shadowland" featured her own traditional country genius. A veteran member of Patsy Cline's band who played on the album for k.d. said it was like being with Patsy all over again. No greater comparison could ever be.
