Bit of KD Lang trivia for everyone. When Vancouver Canada hosted the Olympics they had asked Leonard Cohen to sing his song Hallelujah and he said of course. Then they told him it would be a duet with KD, he said absolutely not I won't do that. When asked why he said when KD Lang released her version it was so much better than his that it became her sing and she deserved to sing it alone without him "holding her back". He told that story in interviews many times after. He's a huge fan of hers 😊
You know....the thing about k.d. that slays me is her vocal restraint. If she wanted to she could blow the ceiling off the recording studio with every song she chose. A TRUE ARTIST understands the power of subtlety. Just sublime! ✌
Truth. I've been going to her live shows for 30 years and there are moments where you can hear her voice coming right at you, over the mic and through the air, and it's a striking sensation. Few singers know their voice as intimately as she does. I'm always in awe. She reaches a part of the brain that no one else does.
I agree to a point, but don’t. We don’t see her much commercially, but her fan base is huge. She,to me, is right up there with some of the best singers of our time.
I loved the music she recorded before she changed backup bands. Love everything she did with the Reclines, but when she changed to Siss Boom Bang, it wasn't the same for me. I attended two concerts of hers and loved the first one. The second one was disappointing. It took me a while to figure out why because it was right around the time she changed bands, but that was the reason.
As a Canadian I have to say that I feel kd Lang has a better voice than many singers past and present. She has never received the recognition she deserves.
I believe she stands above them all. Her voice is versatile, she can sing anything. And when she does sing, colors appear and float in the air, painting beautiful scenes. Truly no one like her; a once-in-a-lifetime singer and performer.
@@elstongunn4277 And she has said that even she is amazed by what comes out of her. Imagine that--having this instrument that is utilized by a higher power!
In 1981 and 1982, I went to Red Deer College in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. KD Lang was also attending and in the music program. They did concerts throughout the year, and I went to most of them. She was a powerful singer back then, so entertaining, had a very unique style, and such a pleasure to listen to. She moved to Edmonton in '82 has refined her skills so much since those early years of her career. I remember a show she and her band did at the University of Alberta where I was finishing school. As Albertans, there were so many who were very proud of her!!!
You made me cry and laugh when you said that she takes you to that place ,that place she came from. My girl is a lesbian and I’m straight. But I’m in love with the creature who has that voice.
I saw KD only once. It was just before her first album came out, so I had no idea who she was. She was performing in a Calgary Stampede saloon when she was still wearing her granny skirts and cowboy boots. I swear that whole rowdy bar crowd was transfixed. We all knew we were witnessing something magical.
KD Lang is in the stratosphere when it comes to her artistry. Her rendition of this song is hauntingly beautiful. The slide steel guitar in the beginning captures you instantaneously. Also, KD and her bassist have a connection that is sublime. 🔥✨
Crying, Hallelujah, Constant Craving, Blue Velvet, and so many other songs K.D. Lang blew out of the water. She has such an unusual sound and great unique interpretation of many part hits. It made them sound like brand new songs.
She sings about the air that she breaths and I have just realized I have been sitting her holding my breath while listening, I guess that is the definition of BREATHTAKING
I am comfortable with the belief that KD knows exactly how many fluctuations of her vibrato she wants ever time she lets it loose ...... So much passion with so much control
She is one of the few performers I've seen live (Jennifer Holiday being another) whose voice is not fully captured by studio recordings. The last time I saw k.d. live she got seven standing ovations DURING her set, and was on first before another artist. Truly a spectacular voice, and her emotional connection to her songs is palpable.
When Roy Orbison did Black & White Night KD Lang sang backup with 2 other female singers ( a very young Bruce Springsteen also did harmony & guitar ). Then she sang a great duo with Roy's Crying. After his death she sang a solo of Crying. WOW! She truly is a great artist! Thank you!
K D kills it every time, doesn't matter what the song is, she makes it her own. Kathryn Dawn Lang was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1961. When she was less than a year old the family moved to Consort, Alberta and that's where she grew up.
As a North Carolinian, USA born, I have always loved Canada and been there many, manu times. But her greatest gifts to the world are her musicians and their amazing songs. From KD, to the Guess Who, to Gordon Lightfoot, Loverboy, Corey Hart, Stampeders, Celine (of course), the list goes on and on. Oh, 🇨🇦!!!!! Blessings to you!
Gorgeous gorgeous vocals...always with this singer. Makes me proud to be Canadian :D She does no crazy runs or acrobatics with her voice other than pure, angelic sounds! :)
k.d. is from another universe, possibly even heaven. Her voice is like silk. She can sing anything and she does take you to other places..... she gives chills.... she's a force to be reckoned with. You should do a reaction to her video from here of Patsy Cline's in care of the blues on David Letterman I believe it was.....
She does that a lot. She's a great songwriter, but when she does a cover, she never imitates. Even in "crying" which is a fairly literal cover, she takes it to greater heights.
Yes, KD's voice is restrained, beautiful and sensual. She makes this classic 70's song, so well done by the Hollies, into her own. Bravo, girl. Oh, Canada!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'd never heard this: Thank you KD again and again. Beauty on this Earth .. Your reaction is right on, Harri. I saw her live w my boyfriend, who wasn't interested/ didn't know her. He was as completely blown away as I was I, even tho I'd listened to her CDs a hundred times. In person she's even better because you have her voice and her incredibly beautiful energy.
This lady demonstrates that she can take you places that will mesmerize you! She can do an amazing vibrato so quietly that you want it to go on forever. It leaves one almost as if you are in a trance. She is a fabulous fabulous artist! And the person narrating this is so good at what he does. I want more and more of this!!!
kd is an angel from heaven who used to sing to the newborns before they got delivered but got in a bit of trouble so had to become human to repent. If you try hard enough you will remember her singing to you.
She is someone you can never UNHEAR! I love this song with her and she helped me get through a rough patch hearing it over and over along with Hallelujah!
From KD's 1997 album, " Drag", this was made popular by The Hollies. KD has made this version a slow bluesy masterpiece with her beautify voice drawing you fully into a peaceful state. Such a treat. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Debbie. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

I once read an interview with a classmate of hers in high school then another classmate at music school .... That is the best version, hands down.
Thanks for that. I love the little tidbits I learn here about my favorite artists!
Very cool story
And she sang it in her bare feet. So intimate to such a huge crowd.❤️🇨🇦
Goosebumps…

So true. That's musicianship.
What an incredible voice I can listen to her forever. Thank you for sharing 💚
My consistent thought, too!
Sometimes less is more

KD Lang has got to be one of the most un-appreciated voices of our time. Thank you for showcasing her on your channel.

I agree to a point, but don’t. We don’t see her much commercially, but her fan base is huge. She,to me, is right up there with some of the best singers of our time.
The key she sings this is is so left field … just genius
Agreed. I have always loved her voice. Personally I like this song better by the original but she still did a fabulous job.
KD Lang is I a class of her own! Have enjoyed her for over 30 years!!! What a talent! ❤

True That !
I completely agree 100%. I’ve been a fan 30 years. I love her.
IMHO, her voice stands equal to all the greats...Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, etc. She is a singular talent.
She's absolutely in that category ❤
Her voice is truly a fine instrument.

She floats when she sings. Like she's singing from a birds wing. You can feel the movement and the wind.
KDLang is the best singer that I have ever listened to . She is unique .
You can say that again.
You made me cry and laugh when you said that she takes you to that place ,that place she came from. My girl is a lesbian and I’m straight. But I’m in love with the creature who has that voice.
KD could sing the phone book and make you cry. If I could only listen to one artist for the rest of my life it would be her.
Lol 😅' sing a phone book'...💯%
❤😊 Best comment ever. I believe you are correct.
I'm 85 years old. KD is the Best Pop singer of them all !! I remember most of great ones !
KD is my jam. Her voice makes life great!
KD her voice is like a warm wave of energy. Her voice is so perfect, no fancy costumes, no back up singers, no distractions.
‘no fancy costumes’? When touring ‘Shadowland (1988 / 1989) she wore beautiful embroidered Western suits. 😊
She has rocked some verrrrrrry unique costumes🙂.
I saw KD only once. It was just before her first album came out, so I had no idea who she was. Give her duet with Jane Siberry a listen…it’s called ‘Calling All Angels’……gorgeous.
She does a great job in a video called Big Boned Gal
Her stage performance is amazing ❤
I love listening to her vibrato. So lovely and smooth-like water gently rippling over stones in a forest creek.
She sings about the air that she breaths and I have just realized I have been sitting her holding my breath while listening, I guess that is the definition of BREATHTAKING
Me, too!!!!!!
Wow, As I listen, I hear Karen Carpenter in her voice. God has truly blessed some of humanity with the voices of Angels.
Me TOO!
I was thinking exactly the same!!! ❤

K.D has said that Karen was one of her inspirations..she only named 3 women singers.

Her voice is pure magic...

I wish she'd come back with a concert. Such a voice from God!
I'm as straight as straight but I have been in lust for kd lang since I knew of her existence.
I think a lot women feel that way when they see her sing. Her sexuality is universal.
I'm "straight" if that's the term to use but I adore KD

Same here! I adore this woman. She touches my heart and soul. 🩷

K.D.Lang's version of this song is spiritual like a prayer.
