Around 1989 "Pullin Back The Reins" was playing in a old record store Sam Goody, I went up to the pierced face dude at the counter & asked who was playing. He said KD Lang. I bought the CD. The CD is very country but, the two stand out songs are Pulling Back the Reins and Trail of Broken Hearts.

I remember when conservative country music fans were up in arms when K.D. Lang came on the scene in 1992 because her look didn't fit with what they thought a country music performer should look like. She had an androgynous look. She was also part of the neo-country music style that started in the 1980s and continued through the 90s and beyond with artists like The Judds, Garh Brooks,Alan Jackson,Brooks and Dunn,Randy Travis and more.I always loved this song and it deserved all the Grammy awards it won.

k.d. lang was originally in the country music artist. This was her album that was released after she left the country music scene after publicly coming out. kd lang and the album that the song's on was nominated for and won a Grammy(s). I immediately loved this song when I heard it which was the first single/video released. She has some great albums and she is an amazing vocalist, of course. I am tempted to say just pick a song of hers because they are all good, but I'll list a few that you should take a listen to.
    From "Ingenue":
    The Mind of Love
    Still Thrives this Love
    Save Me
    Miss Chatelaine
From "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues"
    Hush Sweet Lover
    Lifted by Love
    In Perfect Dreams
    Sweet Little Cherokee
    From "All You Can Eat"
    Maybe
    If I Were You
    You're Ok
    Get Some
    Acquiesce
    This
    From "Drag"
    The Air That I Breathe
    My Last Cigarette
    My Old Addiction
    Till the Heart Caves In
Plus "Hallelujah" as other people have mentioned.
You should definitely take a listen to her catalog. Enjoyed your reaction.

Beautiful song. Beautiful vocal. I think constant craving is that feeling of dissatisfaction we all have with life sometimes when we don't have what we need - whether its acceptance, love, happiness, etc. Like you said, it is vague. I think that is intentional.

Always appreciate your reactions down here in Melbourne, Australia. My first experience of K.D .Lang was in New German Cinema director Percy Adlon’s 1991 film SALMONBERRIES in which Lang plays an Inuit orphan in an remote Alaskan town. Lang contributed the song “Snow Barefoot” which, like the film itself, is haunting, melancholy and soulful. Highly recommend both. Also a very big fan of her album Ingenue, which I have fond memories playing on repeat driving from Melbourne to Adelaide and back.

I don't often dislike songs you react to, mainly because both you and the viewers have commendable taste. But KD Lang. This is my take on music - if music doesn't move me emotionally, imaginatively or physically then I have to pass. I find KD's work is very much colour by numbers country/blues. Very much a product of the 90s where many middle class musical experts would pontificate over her songs. Constant Craving is very flat musically to me.
