As someone from Montreal let me tell you, EVERYONE hated the rebrand. Even people who don't watch soccer was pissed. Some people still call the team "l'Impact" in part out of spite.
The biggest problem is that it was all out of nowhere. I can understand a team like the Raptors whose logo was aggressively 90's willing to rebrand, but there really was no demand for a new logo, let alone a new name after almost 30 years.

Montreal Impact was great. While it might seem like a generic 90s sports team name, the fact that it was the same in English or French was a stroke of subtle genius. The fluer-de-lys was iconic, and the name had established history in the city. With so precious little history and tradition compared to other North American pro sports, why would you throw that away to become just another generic Europoser MLS brand?
Also, I don't know how well "Club de Foot" comes across in French, but in English it sounds like clubfoot, which is something you definitely wouldn't want to evoke as a soccer team! 🤣

I have a theory about Washington's name change:
    1. The delay was because the previous owner had no intention of changing the name. He just figured that if he waited long enough, everyone would forget about it and he could just change the name back.
    2. When #1 didn't work, he went through the suggested names and picked the lamest, most generic and most boring name in the list, a name less inspiring then just calling it "Washington Football Team.". Since he had no intention of actually going through with the name change, they had no logo and no branding. The idea here was to take a name so lame, so generic and so uninspiring that it would start a movement to bring back the old name.
On that note, Red Wolves, Razorbacks (you can keep the pig mascot for this one) and even just calling it "Football Team" are improvements over Commanders.

i’m a graphic designer. 80% of the rebrands in this video weren’t done because an owner wanted something new, or to “look minimalist”. these teams are brands, and have to function like one too. the logo needs to still be recognizable in a 25x25 pixel grid on the smallest phone that can still run android kitkat.
rebrands i would consider “bad” are things like the pistons, where they just went from one basketball to a slightly less detail basketball, it didn’t improve anything. most of the rebrands being called “bad” in this video are actually quite an improvement in legibility, recognizability, and uniqueness aka not looking like something that already exists.
again these teams are multi million dollar brands, i understand sports invoke a feeling in people, but they are businesses first. no one is complaining that the apple or microsoft logo is too boring

@@kidthekiddo8996 it’s a 2d image that is circular meant to represent a basketball, which is a spherical object that in 2d form is a circle because of how shapes work.
In other words, the logo that is a circle is a circle. Sure it has small lines in the circle that are meant to make it seem like a basketball because it is a basketball team, but that doesn’t mean the logo itself isn’t just a circle with very little to make it distinct from any other circle based logo in the league(of which there are a few but it is by far the most egregious in its terrible mundane-ness)
Real quick you said you are a graphic designer, judging by the fact you don’t seem to understand how shapes work and that you show a level of reading comprehension comparable to a fifth grader, could you tell me how you got your job? Just curious because if your dumbass and frankly terrible graphic design opinions are the standard in that career path it seems like a pretty easy job to get into. I might even give it a try.
