The new jazz rebrand sucks. Their jerseys look like practice jerseys, which is unfortunate because during the Donovan Mitchell era, I thought they found their identity and created some really cool designs and colors
the new ownership took a massive dump on it! They took something that wasn’t broken and Ryan Smith the owner crapped the bed there is no other way to put it! he wanted to make it his own and he f’d up! everything about that rebrand did not shout Utah Jazz Basketball. I know they rebranded again and it’s an improvement but I don’t like how all the jerseys say “Utah” on them I would have liked to have 1 or 2 them say “Jazz” on them It kinda feels like ownership is fazing out the Jazz name.
With Seattle potentially getting the SuperSonics back around 2027-28 when the league expands, I’d love to see a video where he modernizes the already existing logo and also makes a completely new one. 🙏🏽
Proportionately the new triangle grouping doesn't look like clipper ship sails anymore, just an odd geometric pattern shoehorned into a basketball. This is compounded by them no longer being white (sails) on a blue (sea) background (and without a sun) - now they're just odd navy triangles + a basketball ... not a great concept and doesn't have any of the nostalgia equity of the '78 design. The lack of contrast between the new red and navy also causes legibility issues with the forms themselves which would be worse on moving fabric. Nitpicking but the placement of the 'Los Angeles' is not centered in the housing circle and leaves a lot of negative space. I do like the new script though and could see its angles possibly incorporated better into the logo. Overall this seems like a strange side step at best, rather than an improvement: C-

What's a little more interesting is that recently the Clippers' G-League Team moved to Oceanside (in San Diego County), and rebranded as the San Diego Clippers.
Thank you Justin for making an awesome attempt in rebranding the Clippers logo! I see why some people in the comments compare the logo he did to the FC Bayern Munich logo and I can't unsee it. However, it still looks cool yet retro at the same time.
Kind of a mix between the Nets and Raptors logo. Thank you for sharing. BTW, "Lakers" are also ships, the freighters that brought cargo thru the Great Lakes region of the United States.
The logo you mocked up was cool. But I feel like there were some missed opportunities to really modernize that retro take. For example: in stead of keeping the boxy style of the sails we could have reimagined them as waves 🌊 rippling through the water left if the wake of the clipper. In that way we then could’ve had the horizon line from the basketball 🏀 cut through/intersect with it. Keep in mind part of the Clippers legacy is that they’ve had 2 slam dunk champions in Brent Barry, who jumped from the free throw line, and Blake Griffin who jumped over a car. So when thinking of it as a medallion logo for center court you can imagine now how with curved triangles and a tapered horizon line cutting through it. It would give the illusion of someone jumping from half court towards the basket. Best way I could describe it is like the space rocket 🚀 that cuts through the NASA logo. I liked the idea of the sharper font, but I would have liked to see the diamond ♦️ elements you mentioned incorporated there. But still both of your logos in my opinion are better than the logo they have which feels like a rip off of the late Seattle Sonics logo. Would love to see if you draw the same comparison.
Absolutely love this re-design, so much soul and analog feel calling back to the original Clippers logo. The wordmark is great also! Gives me big Cleveland Guardians vibes, which is another rebrand that I think was really well done (wordmark-wise, at least). Think I might mock this up on a jersey to really see how it hits.
I throughly enjoyed your process for re-creating their logo. I love everything that you created except for the triangle sails. Unfortunately when I see the triangles I do not think of boat sails. I think…Triangles. And then link them to sails. If you changed that look in your design to mimic real boat sails…then I think you would have a perfect logo. Why hide the sails…be proud of them. Just my thoughts.
