2022 gets dust/mud/debris in the interior of the rear bumper and causes the "Toyota Safety Sense" to fail. No fix yet from Toyota. If you live in a dry area you may not experience the failure quickly, but debris/mud will eventually disable the RCTA and BSM sensors. I live in Helena, Montana, and can't get my sensors to last more than three weeks.

Aw, they put that big fish-mouth grill on the front, like Lexus and other companies have been doing. What is that supposed to be, intimidating? Also, having the machine shut off when opening the door (when you've remote-started) is supposed to keep someone from jumping into a running car and stealing it. My Dodge mini-van has stow-and-go type seats so you don't have to haul them out and stow them. My 2008 Toyota Sienna has the very back seats as stow-and-go type. Is that a big scratch on the left side? It seems to be very encumbered by technology.

I have the base model 2022 sienna. The only things I really like above any other van is the gas mileage and how far the seats slide and recline. I dislike almost everything else. I really miss my 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. Almost everything about that van I feel is better than the sienna. The gas mileage wasn’t that far off the hybrid anyway. I get frustrated using my van every time I have to use it now. It takes forever to respond and so clunky to move the seats for kids to get in and out. I don’t feel it works well for moms with a lot of kids who are little. Maybe when the kids are older and can adjust the seats the way an adult can.
Also, I really don’t like that you can’t lock the doors while it’s running. If I forgot something inside and my kids are already buckled I can’t make sure they are safe

Nice review, but have you ever experienced driving the 3.5 V6? If you have not, you can not compare acceleration and power. I very much doubt that the 20% reduction in HP will match the V6. ALSO, you get very excited about the 3rd row seats and the ease o folding them down. Well, again, you have no experience with the older models, because it is EXACTLY THE SAME mechanism !!!!

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes I have driven the 3.5 V6..across multiple Toyota and Lexus models.
My complaint isn’t that the hybrid is underpowered…it’s that it’s the ONLY option. The V6 is reliable, very low maintenance, and what a lot of people desire.
I know the 3rd row is just like before, it’s still awesome that it folds so easily. The king slide second row seats are similar too…those are still great.

  • @borisp9499

A few comments. I have an 8 seater XLE. To get an 8 seater I had to forgo the AWD option. The only way to get AWD and 8 seats is on the base model. I can't figure out why they don't offer 8 seat and AWD in higher trims. I would have been happy to spend more on my car if they would only offer it in such a trim. A second problem is that the power outlets in the 3rd row are only on the right side. Why couldn't they also add the same thing on the left? Took a car on a road trim and had kids fighting for them in the 3rd row. It probably doesn't cost much to have these outlets on both sides instead of just one.

My 2017 Sienna Se with 40K also goes through a phase of noise gremlins which I think emanate from the sliding doors otherwise it is relatively quiet. In contrast, my old beater, a 2004 Honda Odyssey with 150K never rattles from the doors except for road noise through poor insulation. The 2.5-liter engine Hybrid combo is excellent in the Rav4 but just Adequate in the Sienna. The 3.5 engine has good power with the 8-speed tranny. People who opt for the New Hybrid Sienna should warm up the engine, especially in the winter because condensation can occur in the oil pan, which causes the oil to get milky. This will only happen if you drive very short distances on a regular basis otherwise it's not an issue, but checking your oil often can help mitigate any problems that can arise from short engine running intervals.

Fully agreed with you here. Our vehicles have this feature and we have never really used it. You have to be physically close enough to the vehicle to make this work, so if your hands are so occupied that you can't even press the FOB or the door/trunk button, how would you be able to get close and kick your foot below the designated area? Trying to get this to working during night time or special weather condition is even more fun. I just use the FOB or the physical button as I'm approaching the vehicle.

Toyota has always been the best and I have owned many but they are trying to run the customers off I just don't understand why you would take all the moon out of that and they've done the same thing with the great big trucks that great big people need to buy for comfort. They need to realize that the USA is full of people that are the size of sumo wrestlers!

I also despise that monstrosity! Stretching out in the front seat is the thing I do most in my car -- second only to driving. Certainly can't do that now. Plus, the console gives me a feeling of claustrophobia, an unacceptable loss of freedom. The inability to remove the back seats is also a major reason to not buy the new era Sienna. Scratching my head bald trying to figure out that major design flaw.
To my mind, too much of the new car design is technology-driven, resulting in a loss of simplicity. Very disappointed with the new Sienna!!

For the remote start, you have to get it to beep 3 times not just push the button 3 times. Agree it should be one and the same. Not only is it a pain to use, shuts off when you unlock the door or open the door but the range to use the key fob remote is very short making its usability further limited. I was debating between the 2021 Pacifica plugin hybrid and the 2021 Sienna last year. After testdrove both, I chose the Pacifica simply due to livability; low NVH, comfortable ride front and back, better seat padding/leather, Bluetooth Android Auto, more tolerable engine noise, when comparing Limited to Limited trim.

Trust me, you want the van to turn off....Not to mention to deter theft, if someone was to just wait for you to auto start so they can just jump in and do whatever to your vehicle?! Come on bro....practical scenarios across the board are addressed with this function...not just for YOUR subjective desires.

You’re not aware of how remote start systems work…take any other brand that doesn’t shut off when the door opens…first of all they are locked…2nd, if someone actually gets in they have a couple of things in okay…either they will shut off if someone tries to shift or they will shut off if someone tries to shift.
You can’t just get in and drive when they are on from remote start.
I appreciate your concern but Toyota does not need to shut the whole vehicle off the instant it unlocks…not to mention it only unlocks with the key fob…not from someone opening the LOCKED door

I think the XSE needs to get 20” no matter it’s FWD or AWD. It’s just awkward to see the sporty styling but then the tiny wheels. Toyota should get a motor that can handle couple more lbs of the 20” wheels, if that’s really the reason the AWD can only get 18” wheels.

While I agree that the 3.5 V6 and the 6 speed or 8 speed was legendary as far as reliability, Toyota has very much stepped up it's hybrid game starting since about 2010-2012. The first and second gen Prius were a testing ground and they learned relatively quick what needed changing. The batteries are over provisioned and cooled well, they've learned from past inverters what not to do, so now they have heat parameters that keep the system out of red zones, the hybrid transaxle is almost bulletproof, and the engine is still a naturally aspirated large displacement 4 cylinder. Only time will tell how it holds up, but given their observable effort to improve their hybrid powertrain, the only added maintenance item will be to replace the hybrid battery about 200k to 300k down the road.

I chose Toyotas because of their vault-like quietness. I’ve experienced this in mostly Camrys of various years.
Excuse the gripes in the following post.
Enter the 2021 Sienna. Holy sh!t this thing is noisy. Hard plastic on hard plastic, great job.
Middle seat squeak - Some have it, some miraculously don’t. I have it in one seat (driver) and not the other. Sounds like a rat gnawing on metal as I drive. I posted about this before, tried to fix, same result. Sprayed some dry lube to the linkage and taped the wires. Still squeaks. Pulling the rear latch loop quiets it down. I’m about to tie a string from the loop to the mid back hook to keep a tension on it. Then I found it might be the child seat hooks between the seat bottom and back making that noise. Anyone have instructions on how to take the seat apart (not out of the car or the bottom plastic cover)? I want to do some further checks but have no idea how the seat comes apart.
Front driver side suspension boot - Ye ol boat noise, like i’m sailing the seas when I backup. No fix yet. This should happen on cars GM makes, not Toyota, but yeah they share suppliers.
Door seals - Another version of Ye ol boat noise. I have a steep driveway and whenever I drive up from a turn, the entire chassis flexes. BTW, Great chassis, Toyota. The TNGA is stiff. Right. The Sienna rides like a truck, ever ride in the back? Front soft, back stiff, yet that rear cannot hold a tow. Anyway, all door seals need to be lubed. I got a lube made specifically for door seal lubes, claims German cars need it, and so far it has quiet it down, till the next wash or it dries.
And someone found with the OBD tool that Toyota feeds engine noise through the speakers. Just awesome.

Compared with similarly priced sedans and SUVs, vans have the worst NVH, the worst ride experience, and therefore the worst sales. Its only advantage is interior space, but installing the stiff suspension completely destroys it. The ride is just like a P.O.S!

I don’t like the fact you can’t remove the second row seat. The car looks smaller than the older version. It has less power and torque. It looks kinda ugly with the gaping mouth look that Toyota and Lexus has adopted. I still love my 2013 Toyota Sienna. It looks much nice and is larger and I can remove the entire 2nd row seat thus lightening the car drastically.
