  • Reviewing the 2022 Toyota Sienna! I got to drive this car for a week to see how it works with my family of four. And honestly, I think I was expecting a lot more since this car is marketed specifically to families... unfortunately the Sienna fell short in a couple of key areas for me! What do you think of the Sienna!? Comment below!

    AWD is important to me because I live in a snowy/icy winter climate and my former FWD couldn’t make it up our driveway, but my AWD Sienna tackles it like a boss. Side note: I was THIS CLOSE to naming my daughter Sienna because she just couldn’t wait to get to the hospital.

    I have a 2006 4Runner pushing 300,000 miles with never an issue. I had planned to drive it until it died, but with a 3rd on the way I decided it was time for a 3rd row. I was always more into the Odyssey, but with our daily work commute of 80 miles and the current gas prices, this became our #1 pick. The "sportier" XSE model makes me feel a little better about the switch to the minivan. I don't think the door opening will be an issue for me since the Car Mom has 10 inches on me. I see many comments about the Kia having many more features, but I prefer something that I know will last.

    Fell in love with this van after watching this review, so I went and test drove one today. Absolutely loved it but thankfully my husband rode in the back and noticed that the rear vents had very little air coming out, even on high. The dealer's suggestion was to close off the third row vents. That doesn't work for me. Googled this and it seems to be a common issue. That's a deal breaker and I'm so disappointed. Just wanted to mention this as something to look out for! Absolutely love your reviews!

  • @SCraig-Handsome
    @SCraig-Handsome 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I get the car door thing, and I agree, but I just have to point out again that it was so convenient to get from the back to the front before they made consoles standard and built-in. I can’t remember how many times with young kids one of us had to get into the back to deal with a situation on the highway.
    Sometimes you absolutely had to get a parent back there and you could just drop down the console and literally walk back. Now you have to crawl on top of the arm rests or tilt the front passenger seat all the way back, turn and crawl over it.
    I’m glad the quality of the materials has improved so much, entertainment etc., but wow am I ever glad we had that flexibility when the kids were young. It sort of looks like the front passenger is boxed in now.

      @SCraig-Handsome 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@LamNguyen-sr1sy That doesn’t work so well in a construction zone, with a toddler and a baby in the back… it always happens at the worst times. When my kids were young there was a console tray you could drop down and easily walk to the middle or back row of our Toyota Sienna.
      We used it a lot and when we didn’t have it we missed it that’s for sure.

    • @LamNguyen-sr1sy
      @LamNguyen-sr1sy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SCraig-Handsome I completely disagree with the convenience of easy access from front passenger seat to rear area. With 3 kids and no van, we occasionally had to stop on the highway shoulder to attend to the kids. And construction zone or high traffic area are where the baby usually wakes up and starts crying :) very stressful time.

    enjoyed the review. Some kind notes: 1) the slide door rail has ALWAYS been in the window, is dating back to the Toyota Previa 1992 model. 2) I like the fact they moved the wiper to the bottom, because changing out the blade makes it THAT much more easier. 3) The 3rd row folding seats haven't changed, I can do the same simple motion in my 2012 Toyota Sienna. 4) I noticed where they put the spare, that's awesome! Beats trying to get it out from under the van now. Overall, it looks like a great van with great gas mileage. I am upset they don't have a V6 hybrid model. Give us a V6 that pushes out 32mpg! Also, why why why can't they provide an XSE with 8 passengers? Ugh. It's still a nice mini-van. Good job on the video!

    I just traded in my 2011 Sienna for a 2022. Prior to that I owned a 2003 Sienna. We are Sienna fans. Not to nitpick, but they made some changes to the 2022 I’m not thrilled with. 1)it’s smaller. Maybe that’s for the hybrid aspect? Even the front seats are smaller. 2) The seats are higher up off the ground, which makes drive throughs and ATMs awkward. 3)Low ceiling clearance. My son is 6 ft 3 and his head touches the roof, even in the front seat. They also raised the middle console height so climbing between front seats (which I have had to do on multiple occasions when someone blocked me in on the drivers side) is impossible, unless you’re super flexible. I do love the hybrid feature, we haven’t had to fill the tank yet and we’ve owned it for 2 weeks. I agree the exterior design is not that attractive.

    • @SCraig-Handsome

      Exactly… it must be the battery underneath, it just seems a lot smaller and what do you do if you have to get to the back for safety reasons and you are in a construction zone on the highway and can’t pull off the road and stop. It used to be a lot easier.

    Biggest issue with the 2021 & 2022 Sienna is that 3rd Row seats NO LONGER LAY FLAT. This is a major shift from prior models and a design flaw. This flaw eliminates car camping (can no longer camp in the back), and increases wear & tear & hassle of sliding gear in & out over the 3+ inch hump, transporting dogs, etc. Used to lay perfectly flat and was a nice clean surface. Fascinating that they have an outdoorsy, woodland edition but regressed a LOT in terms of utility in an area that matters to people who use it for outdoor adventures.

    for me, sleek styling on a minivan is like lipstick on a pig lol. Just make it big and boxy and give me an extra 2" of space in all dimensions. Aerodynamocs for gas milage is ok, at least that's for a reason. And cup holders....make them huge please. For USB ports, don't install anything that's going to be obsolete in a couple years. We keep cars for a decade. Give me all USB C ports and I'll buy an adapter. Also put in a 120v outlet, that will be future proof.

    When my family went to a trip to the US the car renting place gave her a sienna and boy do I feel you it was the greatest car when the week needed *which was the last day of the trip* we didn’t need to refuel the car that much due to it being a hybrid

    Handsome minivan IMO. An alternative to making the rear doors open wider, they could just have a way to flip the front seat backrest forward so the seat behind can slide forward while you belt/unbelt the kids.

    If you used a different child seat, the one that can twist, putting your children in and taking them out of the car, would be a lot easier.

    Does anyone know if the older Siennas have the same door/space issue with fitting a rear-facing infant car seat in the middle row? Or is that a change with this newer body style?

    I would love to see a review of the Kia Niro. From what I can find it seems like the most reasonably priced SUV hybrid and I wonder what the catch is. I would love to see if it's actually a good car for families, or if it's a sedan masquerading as an SUV

    I wish you had reviewed the rear entertainment system. I rely on that to keep my colicky twins happy while I’m driving. But while previous versions of the Sienna made it so easy to pop in a dvd of Finding Nemo, the new Sienna requires HDMI cords and lightning cords to make this possible. It’s MUCH more complicated and difficult than it used to be in previous Siennas. Plus- cords are trip hazards.

    the car seat is hard to access because you made use of the 2nd row being able to slide back so far, your front seat is sooooo far tilted back. normally front seats are not that far back and 2nd row is in a normal position which allows you much more access to it...

    Biggest complaints about my 2021; seal on sunroof isn't very tight (some water leakage), can't remove 2nd row seats, 3rd row seats don't stay folded down, rear door button is too low. What do I like? Very quiet, great gas mileage, and apple carplay

    I have the 2020, and I'll never switch to this. I've had a Hybrid before.
    1) Hybrid battery: Expensive to replace, dangerous to repair. Heavy weight wears down tires and suspension quicker. Hot battery requires ventilation, exhaust right into the cabin. That's ok in snow country, but not in the sweltering heat of the south. Takes up so much space, no room for a spare or its equipment.
    2) It is smaller than the 2020, interior and exterior.
    3) Second-row seats are not removable like in the 2020.
    4) I like white vehicles. This van in white, from the rear, looks like an angry/sad clown. Those cosmetic extensions down from the taillights was a huge mistake for me.
    5) That bridge console is very restrictive for a large person like me.

    Our biggest complaint is the weird configuration limits. We wanted a higher trim level, with 8 passengers and spare tire. The ONLY trim that we could get EITHER 8 passengers OR a spare tire was XLE, so we got both in an XLE, and went without the extra toys.

    Have you been in or demoed a Sienna with the 8 seats? how does it affect the second row adjustability, or ease of getting into the 3rd row? My husband really likes the "aisle" you get with the 7 seat, but I love the idea of maximum seats. Is the 8th seat removable?

    Toyota should give you a option for hybrid or the v6. If they kept the v6. I would of got one. I'm single no kids. Would of used it as a camper and still would of got good gas mileage.
    Instead I went with a 2020 4runner ORP. Gas sucks but I'm happy with it.
