    How did I miss this one? Anyhow, I was at my Costco Business Center in Washington today, they have those big plastic containers of Skittles so hopefully your new Businss Center in AK will have it too. When does it open? The one in WA has all sorts of candy that you can't find in a typical Costco. I bet you'll find all kinds of new options for freeze drying there.

      Oh I’m so glad they had those skittles at your business center Costco!! Ours should open in November so it’s coming up soon. And it’s closer to my home than the regular Costco, so even better!!

    If you buy from Azure Standard they sell already frozen sweet potato cubes in 5 lb/increments. I bought some thinking the cubes would be larger but I freeze dried them anyway.

      @@TodaysBibleTruth I spray rehydrated them because I didn't want them to get waterlogged and it worked for the oven. The family likes freeze dried potato slices best in both sweet potato and gold potatoes.

    My sister is the one who told me about your channel. Moving from Arizona to Alaska is quite different. Hopefully your enjoying living in Alaska. I live in Idaho with my family. We are about an hour Northwest of Boise and we live on a small farm. We love it. It is getting colder, but nothing like it is there I'm sure. I have had a freeze dryer for a few years now , but never thought of doing sweet potatoes, but I definitely be doing this soon.. I can hardly wait to try the cubes and the chips look good too. I think I would sprinkle the chips with some sea salt then freeze dry them. Your children are adorable. .Thank you and God bless you and your family...Sherri-Payette Idaho

    I have a similar chopper and use it all the time! Make a chopped salad - the small cube for all the veg, meat, cheese, whatever, except lettuce, the bigger cube for the lettuce. Mix thoroughly and then you get a bit of everything in each bite.

    I had looked for one of the choppers you use for chopping potatoes. I bought one that was made of plastic from Walmart. I had bought a 10 lb bag of big Onions. I cut them into manageable pieces and used the chopper to chop 2-3 onions. The hinge slides onto a peg, sort of, anyway, it broke the whole hinge and corner off the lid. Junk!
    I ordered a metal one from Amazon, it arrived the next day, and it works perfectly! Thanks Amazon! I chopped all the onions and put them on the freeze dryer trays and froze. The next day I turned Chilly Willy on without the freeze time, thanks to you for showing me that option! The next day, my onions turned out fantastic!!! I put them in Mylar bags to hold about 1 cup to add to meals. If I had not found your channel, I would not have known about when to turn off the freeze setting. I don’t know why, or if I didn’t get the info from HarvestRight to show how and when to use the settings. I am learning more and more about Chilly from you and another channel, rather scientific channel, “SchoolReports” that I have also learned so much. I purchased a book that you fill out when freeze drying your food. It reminds me to weigh the food, I also have measured the weight of each tray with the silicone liner, and put it inside the front cover of the book and also used a permanent marker and wrote down the weight on the edge of the trays so I can weigh the food and subtract the tray/liner weight. It makes it so easy and accurate to do.
    On another subject, Yes, you are a princess! Nothing funny, but I used to have long red hair in my younger days, now it’s gone with more of what I call Platinum, (rather than gray)! Hehe! 😜 I also have an 8 year old grandson, named Wesley! I also have the same little Ninja chopper as you, a Vitamix I’ve had for over 10 years and running strong. I needed a place to store all my freeze dried food since they don’t stand on the shelves, so I am using the huge black storage bins from Costco and have the individual foods sorted out inside Walmart shopping bags and fir the smaller items, I purchased 100 of the PO aber bags with the rope style handles. I had all the foods sorted out in my living room when company showed up, unannounced. Kyler bags were everywhere!
    Take care I really do enjoy your channel and have been binge watching while sorting!
    God Bless You and your lovely family! Stay warm!

      @@jillmcdonald1714 oh I love that you have a Wesley!!! Glad that you found a chopper that works better, I’m slowly starting to learn it usually pays off if I just pay for better quality the first time 😆 thanks for all of your info that’s all super helpful!

    I’ve been freeze drying for two years now. Over a thousand bags of food done so far. I noticed the OA in your jars. I’ve had food and powders in jars for 2 years now and never lost a jar. I never put OAs in the jars. Try it with out them and see if it works. You’ll save money if you don’t put them in the jars.

    • @DIYfreezedry
      @DIYfreezedry  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing that! Yeah I’ve heard mixed results on if you need them or not - I have been using a couple year old egg powders that don’t have the OAs in them and they have been fine so I think you’re right probably not needed!

    • @hydej1667
      @hydej1667 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oxygen Absorbers are always needed . . . even in jars, for Long Term storage. Vac packing does not remove all the Air . . . and that means there is still Oxygen in the food. Oxygen is not a friend of your food. OAs are a very cheap form of insurance, just a few cents each. Best to be safe.
