I wouldn't say there's a big increase, like many things on the 6.5 it's more just a part of the whole of upgrades. Meaning, rather than just one component causing a huge increase, the upgrading of the lift pump, feed the beast mod on the FFM, and turning up the fuel screw/performance tune, for example will give you way more performance. Bigger pre-cups is part of that, it's not one thing that will push you back in your seat, it's just part of the series of improvements.
Impossible to say without seeing them but if it's just a all crack, I'd run them. If the part fails, pieces will be sucked into the cylinder and likely jammed up between the piston and head. If they aren't imbedded into one of those, it will be shot out the exhaust. Not a good situation but I and many others have had glow plugs self destruct and sucked into the cylinder and she kept running fine.
Considering that the motor itself weighs around 900 pounds, I wouldn't put any pressure on the pan at all. I would set it up with a hoist just like you were going to pull the motor.
I guess I can stop by the small local mechanic shops see if I can work a deal...any other diy solutions? Thanks for your response! Really helpful! My drivers window stopped working yesterday so I’m currently fixing that
@@SixFiveTurboGaragecom where can I find pictures to identify what precups I have? It's a 94 f motor. I'm building it currently, hoping to go twin turbo in a 07-13 GMC halfton with a 6l90 trans behind it.
@@GreatLakesLogger Once again, You Tube gave me no notification that this comment was here so I apologize for the late reply. If you look at post #9 here, you can see a good variety of precups, although it doesn't list what year each one is. www.thetruckstop.us/forum/threads/6-2-rebuild.45940/ I have seen a better picture showing each year but I don't know where I saw it. If you do a search for "6.5 diesel pre-cup" and look around, you may run across it. But for pre-cups, basically bigger is better!
Thanks for all your videos of your rebuilding techniques, very very helpful.
Thank you sir, glad they can help!
And your Harmonic balancer install tool should ship out today, thanks for the order!
Any idea if there’s a big power increase if switching to bigger pre-cups? Do you know how much better it gets and how much worse fuel economy gets?

It’s kinda funny 6.5 turbo Garage .doesn’t have a garage?
Ha! I love it.
The garage part is referring to you being able to do the work in your own garage but that's hilarious.
Any new videos coming on the 6.5 rebuild?
I definitely plan on moving forward with the series but I don't know when I'll be able to get to it. Maybe after taxes are done! : )>
I used a socket
Is a precup needed at all?
Yes, for an indirect injection diesel
Hey bud quick question i want to change the motor mounts..will a 4x4x2 pi of wood with a jack work on the oil pan ?

SixFiveTurboGarage.com thanks...I don’t have one of those nor do I have a place to do it
