    I have a 1994 full-size Blazer 2-door with 6.5TD. Owned it since 2001. There’s 300,000 miles on the engine and transmission. Replaced timing chain once, a couple fuel pumps, many lift pumps. Oil cooler and lines. PMD is on a remote heat sink. The usual upgrades and bolt-on component replacements. Overall it’s been a fantastic vehicle. In warm weather 19 MPG driving around town.

    I've just purchased a 3500 dually over here in the uk with the 6.5. Good to watch videos like yours as there is very little knowledge of this engine over here..look forward to more videos..

    Just bought a 97 Chev 3/4 ton with a 6.5 diesel. Other than semis this will be my first diesel. I have got a handle on the 5.7 gas pot that I have been driving, so this is a whole new experience for this old retired trucker. Thanks for the video

    The main webs on my 6.2 look about like your 6.5 here. I just picked up a crack-free 599 cast 6.5 block and a set of good heads, and I’m going to start my build from there. Good video. I’ll be sure to watch some of your others as well.

    Thanks, I know nothing about GM diesels. I'm a Ford guy but, I just won a non running Hmmwv. I'm assuming the worst hoping for the best. 🍻🇺🇸

      I just won a running HWWMV but no one bid on it but me. It was really hard to pull the trigger. My first GM diesel also. I got the two man 1998 1123 with 18,000 miles. It is in Yermo, CA. The clearance to pick it up may come in July at the earliest. Good luck with your HWWMV.

    If you can, give us some info on motor use, mileage, issues, and game plan on replacing items. Good job, can’t wait for the next video.

      Thank you, 234k miles and i dont have much history on it past 230k other than i know it was abused and neglected by previous owner. I just got the optimizer block back from the machine shop so I will be working on a video explaining all those details soon

    Hi,how much can the heads be planed?And what do you do about the cracks between the valves?thanks.How many miles on the motor?Your shops not as bad as mine,hahaha.

    • @averybryant
      @averybryant  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im not sure on how much the heads could be planed id have to ask my machine shop. I believe the cracks, if bad enough can reach the “steam jacket” and the valve seats both of which can cause issues. This engine had about 234000 miles on it, and was not very well taken care of by previous owner as you can see. Hopefully i can expand shop soon lol. Thanks for watching

    How many miles on this engine, just curious, I have an engine with 106000 miles. No issues so far.

      You have a long ways to go! There will be maintenance and replacement of various bolt-on components.

  • @raevennull
    @raevennull 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You said the heads are probably salvageable. Are you just going to run them the way the are? I recently went through one of these with the 599 block. The block was good, but the heads had the same cracks. I replaced them with some new heads from Clearwater that are supposed to have extra material between the valves and they took the old heads as cores.

    • @averybryant
      @averybryant  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ended up cleaning the soot off and removing a couple valves and found the heads to be far more cracked than it looked. I will probably end up buying promaxx heads

      234k on the truck, but this engine was swapped in around 80k as a used engine so it’s probably closer to 250-300k. As you can tell it was not very well taken care of lol. Thanks for watching

    • @TermiteBenny
      @TermiteBenny 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most I’ve seen tend to need rebuilt or replaced around the 275,000-325,000 miles. Not saying they don’t go further then that it just seems like most I’ve been around are definitely using a good bit of oil and smoke a lot both exhaust and blow by around those miles. Or the head gasket let’s go and it’s time to open them up.

    • @averybryant
      @averybryant  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ive seen about the same thing, although more high mileage survivors than I expected. I still love these engines though and ver easy to work on. Hopefully this new one i am building will last a long time
