    Nice to see some progress! I'm looking forward to seeing more. I know your already spending a lot of cash on it, but I do really recommend the fluid damper... the new OEM style ones just dont last long at all. And there what brakes cranks... great video, take care! Oh and I would love to see an unboxing and close up overview of the promaxx heads if you can. Thanks!

      Thank you! Fluid damper is one of the things that has really been going back and forth in my mind recently. I may end up getting one after all, with the money already invested it would be considered cheap insurance. The new heads should be coming in tomorrow so I will definitely try to make a video on those real quick

      Somehow my 86 damper is still good no cracks so i reused it but I will put a fluid dampener later

    Thanks for sharing, I’m rebuilding one too. About the same situation, mine is still a bare block on the stand. Machine shops backlog is 3 months....

      It takes lots of time but will be worth it in the end. Machine shop actually fit me in ans got it done in 2 weeks or so. Hopefully the crank balancing doesnt take too long either

      @@averybryant That’s great, hopefully the crank balance will happen soon for you. Thanks again for sharing your build. Rebuilt a v6 outboard and an inline 4. 1st diesel for me.

    You should have turned that engine stand over and put that camshaft in vertical. I heard too much metal clanging. Putting the cam in vertical eliminates that. But it is a great video. And I wonder if he was going to put that cam in the way I thought you were going to do you did

    Nice build bro! If you can save the money, I highly recommend a fluidamper....did wonders for my 6.2 !

    I know the price tag sucks, but don't skimp on the harmonic balancer. Get a fluid dampner or plan on changing both the balancers every 40,000 -50,000 miles. My second motor just broke the crank because of the harmonic balancer failing. Also the second motor had a scat crank.

      Dang man yea after talking with some people and considering it more it would just make sense to pay the price and put one on this, with all that i have already invested it will be cheap insurance. Thanks for watching

      @@averybryant I'm in the middle of rebuilding another block I had that was out a humvee. It a 2001 506 block, it has the higher nickel content and bigger webs in it. I'm doing ARP everything, fluid dampner, high pressure/Volume oil pump, newer style water pump with the 9 blade fan, and a new holset turbo with 4 inch stainless exhaust. I'm trying to make it as bomb proof as I can. Getting and or waiting for parts has been the biggest issue I've had so far. Good luck with your build, I'll be keeping tabs on ya. All and I'm messing around with an inner cooler that I have here to see if I can get it to work.

      Sounds pretty identical to what my plans are here as well. I really wanted something i could trust on long trips so going all out on this one. Goodluck with your build as well and keep me updated on it also

    Do all blocks crack I got a 97 motor from my parts truck guy claimed he put a rod through the oil pan. Now unless I'm blind or was missed diagnosed the pan looks normal to me. I want to take the motor appart and completely rebuilt it everything new except the block. Unless GM still sells new replacements I'd go that route instead and studd it.

    Im about to do this on my 96. Where did you get those oilers? Didn't even think about that

    • @averybryant
      @averybryant  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had to get them from a website called GMpartsdirect.com They were kind of a pain to find and a little pricey but had to be done. I will share the link if i can find it again

    Did you change block or did they fix cracks

  • @apaulothegreat1581

    You should have tilted that motor back and dropped that Cam in vertical clinging and banging out bearings May have low all pressure

    • @averybryant
      @averybryant  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good point, first time doing this so wasn’t really thinking about that. But i do promise i was as careful as possible putting it in. I believe oil pressure should be okay

    What happen if you don't install the oil spreader????

    • @averybryant
      @averybryant  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Im assuming you are referring to the oil “sprayers”. You will have very little to no oil pressure as the oil will all gush out of the 6mm holes. You can not use the sprayers and get bearings for an earlier non sprayer block as well that done have he holes for them

    Buy an 8.1 and scrap it ! 6.2/ 6.5 biggest junks ive ever seen ive got 5000 into a truck and 5000 into the 6.5 and it wont even fire ! Junk junk junk

    • @averybryant
      @averybryant  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Not trying to be rude, but it sounds like you just threw parts at it without diagnosing it. I have much less than that into this build and it lights right off in the cold and runs great

      Had 4 people who specialize in just 6.5s help with it my dad owns a chevrolet dealership and they all have never seen such a problem its all been 110% diagnosed through codes weve gotbthe gm2 he also uses odis when its available we even called back a guy who had 50 years working on them done literally thousands of pumps when they did the recall it was 100k mile recall he went through everything and cannot even figure out whats up with it .computer ran back to 3 codes that went to cps changed cps nothing ..ask jesse pelkey hes got a channel on here too nobody has been able to figure it out not a single mechanic has been able to tell me anything the computer hasnt ! If you rely on the junk they use for a computer forget about even trying to work on it they are the biggest piles of crap ive ever seen and if i engineered something like this back when i was with ge id be fired in a split second ,
