    Someone should do a Real Commentary on all of these Firearms. They are very interesting, even if they may be special editions, copies of real pistols and rifles etc., including the John Wayne collection first presented in this video. Surely, someone must have cataloged each and every one of these firearms, possibly the proprietor. I believe that most people would like to see what is actually on display, I would!

      These are all reproductions with relatively little value and surely NEVER even touched by the great man himself.

    Nice little display of firepower. Would have enjoyed seeing them up close and personal also. Had been to the Ft. Lee gun museum in Virginia in the early 80's; was amazed at the collection of old and some newer items they had there. Was totally awesome to see as I drooled over them.

    My dad, Bill Moses sounded exactly like John Wayne and would come home from work and he would say " what's ya doing pilgrim" you couldn't tell the difference. He was one of Colorado's top 10 chefs and cook steaks like John Wayne liked.

    That''s a great collection.
    Speaking of John Wayne, while travelling west, I stumbled upon his birth place in Winterset, Iowa once.
    One of my main heroes...whose hero he isn't?

    I wonder if any of the guns were from Wayne's films.? An interesting fact, a very young John Wayne actually met and got to know a very old Wyette Eurp. Eurp hung around RKO Studios as a part time paid consultant. Wayne was just a runner and set dresser at that time. Wayne played football in college at I believe USC. His coach got him a job there by handing out free football tickets to studio people, after Wayne lost a football scholarship due to an injury.

    Awesome collection. But I hate those truck stops with a passion. I did drive and having to go to these dumps was one of the most dreaded task of the job. These with the video gambling were the worst. This is were loosers from every social latter gather to zombiefy in front of these machines to toss their money away and to tan their skin to tough leather from the stale cigarette smoke. Outside was just as bad. Having to dodge the no driving big company drivers that would block the entire parking lot , the ones who would block the fuel island while playing the video card games , the road whores that you had to keep away from you. Seeing this video makes me sure not miss driving anymore.

    I have an Arizona Territory Commemorative Colt. It is a special edition gun celebrating 100 years of Arizona becoming a territory of the United States. Most of these commemorative models, including the John Wayne commemorative Colts are functioning firearms and they are well made but they are not very desirable or collectible and they don't command the prices a similar Single Action Army pistol in blue steel with color case hardened frame or nickel plated model. They are great shooters though. I picked up my Arizona commemorative model this year and while it has some handling wear I don't think it was ever shot despite having been manufactured almost 60 years ago (this makes it a 2nd generation Colt Single Action Army). I have since removed the mother-of-toilet seat plastic grips and fitted walnut stocks and I removed the gold plated cylinder for a blue cylinder off another commemorative model from the same time frame and I have shot it a number of times. The action is excellent, it is accurate and it is a joy to shoot.

  • @Britcarjunkie
    @Britcarjunkie 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Sorry folks, but that is NOT John Wayne's gun collection: it is part of the collection of the late Sidney Doan, the man that built the truck stop. (formerly known as Sierra Sid's) The two gun belts that you initially see in the video did in fact belong to Wayne, however, the one on the wall was given to Sid by Wayne's bodyguard, along with (I believe) the two revolvers on the wall underneath the belt. Sid did own one or two of Wayne's guns, but his daughter hasn't had them on display in years.
    She has also, within the last few years, removed the guns and jewelry that belonged to Elvis and Vernon Presley.
    ALL OF THE GUNS ARE REAL, AND OPERATIONAL.
    However, the vast majority, as others have mentioned, are commemorative's that were issued between the 1960's and early 1990's. There are still a few originals (from the 1800's) on display, and a few of the guns have been fired by Sid, when he was still alive.
    FWIW, the collection, when Sid was alive, also covered most of the walls in the casino! Currently, there's just what you see here, that's on display.
    TA owns the truck stop as a whole (and has been running it into the ground in my opinion), but Sid's daughter still has something to do with the casino, and of course, the firearms.
    How do I know? I live in Sparks, and I keep my truck parked there when I'm not on the road. :)

      Thanks Charles X. Like I said before, my equipment company had a branch over on McCarran. It was the Bob-Cat dealer and various other large equipment. I had to haul most of the equipment out after the flood of '97. We. Had to load everything up with the big Link Belt Crane because all the engines were flooded except the upper crane engine, it was above the water line and dry.

  • @dedowd9335

    I did live near this truck so after seeing this writ up I went there to see the collection. There a few special editions and a gun that did belong to an employee of Wayne's that is now owned by the truck stop owner. There are quite a few nice guns in there though.

  • @grizwoldstad9956

    Apparently there are no historians there at the display! 94 Winchesters weren't even dreamed of when Custer was roaming the west. June 25 1876 At Crow Agency truck stop they displayed an 1886 Winchester saying could have been used at the Little Bighorn, Crow Agency is about 60 miles from The site! Grrrrr wish folks would stick to the truth!!!!

      Hello Mr. Bay, from what I heard the possibilities are these are replicas I know I am disappointed as well but who does right?

    • @redbay8527
      @redbay8527 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might be a mix of real and replicas. I know many are real because they are commemoratives - which are real guns that fire real ammo. I'd love to see John Wayne's REAL collection.. Sad to see some discouraging remarks about his WWII service. I found this on that subject: In June, 1941, Wayne registered with Selective Service and was classified 3-A. That meant he had dependents (wife and kids). At that time, and for the first couple years of the war, that was pretty normal. The draft board had plenty of young, single men to choose from; they didn't need a 34 year old with kids.
      By late 1943, that was changing. He became eligible, but a third party request for a deferment was submitted and he was classified 2-A. That third party is believed to be Republic Pictures, the studio that had him under contract. That deferment expired in May 1945, at which point Wayne was classified 4-F (too old).
      The deferment he received was an occupational deferment. Occupational deferments were for essential jobs needed to keep the country running. The film industry was considered essential for morale and propaganda purposes.

    A bit of unknown "trivia ", back in 69 "approx." this collection was stolen from J.W.in L.A.
    and a "ransom" was requested, FBI and Alike meet in Mexico at my parents resort in Baja and I imagine all was "paid/returned", never heard anymore. I was about 16 or 17 then and didn't have any real interest "in this event". and I believe "nothing was ever written-up in the Papers either., anyway, thought this would be an interesting "true" story..

    Years ago, maybe someone remembers exactly, I watched an interview, in the 1960's, between a reporter and Mr Wayne!
    It was at one of Mr Wayne's homes. Which, BTW, resembled the "Ponderosa" house. Inside, instead of there being a fireplace, was a "wall to wall gun case" with all (or maybe a majority) of Mr Wayne's gun collection. When the interviewer asked about "gun control", Mr Wayne became very angry and the TV screen went black! A few minutes later, it resumed and the interviewer was standing outside the front door! *No more questions were asked about gun control!*
    Does anyone remember that interview?

    These guns are ALL special editions that anyone could order and buy, and most of them were limited editions meaning that only a thousand or so were made, but they are all REAL, firing guns. John Wayne was long dead and buried when these weapons were manufactured.
