    I just picked up an almost brand new Harbour Freight lift like yours for $250 off of Marketplace. The first thing I noticed is it needs to be wider if I wanna drive my Road King up on it. I started looking up side rails and stumbled across your video. I love yalls idea! Im going to copy yours exactly. Thanks for the simple but great idea! 🍻

    I love the idea of using the ramps. I was going to make something out of wood. This looks so much cleaner. I will be using your idea now.

    Nice! I just got my lift and put my Vulcan 900 on it, it was a little clumsy for me to do it by myself. I really like those side pieces you made, I'll definitely be doing that upgrade!

      Thanks Walt. It's really not a terrible lift. I don't think it would work in a shop getting a lot of use, but for a home garage, it does its job.

    Thanks for the video. Got my lift yesterday off of FB Marketplace from a guy who is moving from CA to FL and didn't want to take it. Came with a Trakside wheel chock installed. Total price was $150 so I got a great deal. Everything is in perfect (like new) condition 😎.
    Going to go get the ramps you used today and make the same upgrades.
    The guy I got the lift from offered me some other ramps for free but unfortunately I hadn't seen your video at that time so I missed out on that savings. Could still go get them but he lives 2 hours away so it's cheaper to just get them new vs the gas price.

    My lift has the side extensions and it does help especially if you park your bike on it all the time. I installed a wheel chock on mine too because the wheel vise just made me nervous. Just more stable overall. Looks great guys🤘👊😎

    So, shame on me, I took your comment about using 1 1/4" pipe without checking (also without paying attention to your exact comment, "about 1 1/4 outside diameter". Bottom line, I went off half-cocked and bought a 10' length of 1 1/4 pipe at Lowe's (and cut a 14" length off the end) and found out that it is WAY bigger than 1 1/4" OD (more like 1.66"). Anyway, now somewhat wiser, I googled steel pipe dimensions. Looks like you actually used 1" pipe, which has an OD of 1.35". I think I may opt for 3/4" pipe (OD 1.05") and use a total of 8 pipe sections rather than 6, which should be more than strong enough. Anyone want a good deal on 8'10" of 1 1/4 steel pipe????

    Good idea. I built a bracket on the front of my lift with a 12vdc winch (rated 2 tons) so i could winch my bike on to the HF lift. The winch has a wireless remote to operate. The bracket is secured to the lift so I don't have to chock the lift. I am not comfortable riding my bike on to the lift and I am not strong enough to push it up the ramp. Those side extensions seem like a great idea. I am short leg and the cradle for the front tire is another challenge for me to remove the bike. I am thinking of putting a couple of heavy duty torsion springs on the cradle as an assist to remove the bike, but still hold the bike upright when putting the bike on the lift. The winch also works for loading my bike on to my tilt trailer when needed. Lots of good ideas out there.

    My question is, will my 2012 electra glide have any issue with that chock. It seems to be a 5 inch tire.

    I did your mod on my lift. I have a question, how do you work the pump pedal and the release pedal? Mine are on the left side of the lift,and are covered up by the side extension. When I lowered the lift, I had no access to the pedals. Had to remove the extension to raise the lift.
    Any help or thoughts would be appreciated

    The way that lift has no real support at the floor would make me think the table would be somewhat wobbly with a heavy bike at full extended table height. Did you find you had to be somewhat careful working on the bike to not make the table sway? Maybe there's a way to add ground supports to make the entire table more grounded and secure? Thanks for making the video.

    • @NorthCoBaggers
      @NorthCoBaggers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for stopping by and watching! We haven't had any stability issues with our lift in the up position. We're lucky that we are on a flat and smooth concrete floor, and we also use the safety bar that is included in the lift when it is extended. Adding some support certainly wouldn't hurt for extra insurance, but we haven't found the need just yet with our bikes.

      Hey W B, thanks for checking out the video. The ramps were easy to drill out. We used galvanized pipe we got at our local Lowe's. Any hardware store will have pipe like that available. For the holes, we used a hole saw set also available at Harbor Freight. • @b000yaaah
    @b000yaaah 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome idea, I just did this and wondering what you did for the foot pedals? Once I had the ramps installed I lowered the lift and the ramps cover the foot pedals which stops you from being able to pump up the lift again.
    I had to fight to remove the left side ramp to be able to pump the foot pedal.
    Did you extend the foot pedals to reach beyond the ramps?

    • @NorthCoBaggers
      @NorthCoBaggers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey b000yaaah, thanks for watching. We did not extend the pedals because we remove the side ramps once the bike is on. Ours go in and come off relatively easy, so I'm not sure where yours may be binding up. Once we're done working we lower the table and then reinsert the sides and remove the bike. If you or someone you know can weld, making an extension shouldn't be too big of a project. Good luck, and let us know what you come up with.

    • @b000yaaah
      @b000yaaah 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NorthCoBaggers thanks for the reply, my setup works just like yours as far as removal. I was also interested in using it for atvs and drive on the ramps/extensions.
      With the extensions in you can't lower the lift though lol.
      Unfortunately the bigger issue in the lift can not support the atv weight on the extensions without some proper framing added to the lift.
      Either way, great idea and it definitely helps with loading the bike on and off the ramp.

It holds it nice and tight. Good luck.

      It is listed as limited to 1000 lbs, so I would not exceed the rated capacity. We're not sure of any of the touring models that comes in over 1000 without the rider on it. Most are around the 850-950 mark for the ultras as a running weight without the rider. Hi guys, with regards to the extra ramps I have another solution for cheapskates like me ! Being a little short myself at 5' 8" both my bikes were a little taller than I like so I put shorter rear shocks on them - 2006 XL1200R and 2010 Dyna Streetbob. Now I sometimes move them around the garage when I am working on them and the seats are off , and of course the bike seems super low.... so my feet still reach the floor when putting the bike on the lift....... Now it seems a simple thing to do to just whip the seat off so's I can put it on the lift and it costs nothing !

      Hey Larry, we just bolted the ramps and pipes together. We used a hole saw to cut the side of the ramp, and lined it up to fit flush right underneath the ramp surface. We have some pics that we can send you to see better detail. Send us your email address and we'll send the pics to you. Thanks for checking out the video!

    Could you please show more detail on how you did the side ramps?

      @@NorthCoBaggers I also thought they were going to show how they installed the clamps onto the lift and all other details pertaining to the side extensions

    Nice idea with the ramps. Do you think they would support an atv?

      Thanks Harley Bailey. We haven't had an ATV on it, but the table lift as well as the ramps are both rated to 1000 lbs. We only used three inserts to attach to the table lift, so depending on weight you may want to use more. How you attach the ramps to the lift would be the most critical part, and the part where failure would likely occur. If you engineer that sufficiently, we think it would work fine. Proceed at your own risk lol!
