Great video Clem. I have the same lift from Harbor Freight but have been using a wheel chock that I never felt save with. I went down to my local Harbor Freight and bought the same chock as you use, and your modifications look great. I never felt steady riding my 2016 FLHTK Peace Officer Edition up on to the lift as it always felt very narrow for putting my feet. I used another modification I saw on TH-cam using Harbor Freight loading ramps and had some welder buddies weld round tube extensions to the ramps that fit into holes drilled into the lift. This gave me a wider platform for foot placement when riding the Limited onto the ramp. Once the Limited is on the ramp I can remove and store the extensions while working on the bike, I first found your videos about camping and how you packed, and which gear you and Yoga Lady use. My yoga lady and me are looking to Harley Camp as I have retired as a DoD Civilian, Civil Engineers recently here in South Central Texas, after 42 years. It looks like Big Bend is the first trip, your vids have changed the mind of my yoga girl as to what to pack. Keep the videos coming and as always, two fingers down! See you on the road!
Michael, great enhancement on your lift for ride-on stability. My garage has become so small that I can hardly add one more thing. I picked up woodworking after my retirement and built oak bedroom furniture inure and then recently started an old mustang restoration. I have cleared the patch of l;and next to my garage and will expand an additional 12’ wide garage to be able to work on my bikes and my cars. Hope the car videos are not a turn-off to my motorcycle subscribers. I may have to create a separate channel. As far as camping, you may have noticed from recent videos that we bought a little Bushtec trailer and along with that, a much larger tent. I love the space in the tent! We tried it out to the Smoky Mountains this past summer and I posted a couple of videos in the area. I have much more content to add to the channel for that trip. We will be taking more trips to National Parks for camping this spring summer. Really appreciate your thoughtful comments and your appreciation of what we are trying to share on the channel! Thanks again!
Thanks great video and great info. I've learned a lot from your motorcycle lift modification series. I finally bought the same lift today as well as the same wheel chock and motorcycle jack. I'm going to hit like and subscribe. Thanks again for the great videos.
Thanks for the kind words. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment and subscribe. Roxy and me are working on other videos and hope they are helpful and entertaining as well.
I cut the bottom of a 1 or 2 liter soda bottle and put the extension through the hole for the cap of the bottle. With the bottle sled all the way around the filter I then unscrew it and slid it all off at once.
BD, great idea! I have seen several different ways to attack this challenge. I think I just get too impatient and make a mess! Thanks for watching, and commenting, hope you find the content worth subscribing to!
I'm kind of doing the same thing except I'm making a dolly for the front wheel so I can put it in the back of my truck. For the upright in the front that the wheel goes into instead of using the rod I think I'm going to use a couple of bolts maybe with a couple of washer but I think the bolts will make it much more stable. Keep the good stuff coming.
J.L., I would sure like to see a photo of what you are describing. Perhaps you can share a link to something similar or a photo of what you are going for. Thanks for watching, I hope you like and subscribe to the channel.
Hey, always appreciate my Aussie brothers. I watch a few different Aussie TH-camrs in addition to just MDB. I thought I might record a shout-out video to those I watch and appreciate. Thanks for sharing where you are from and subscribing. I was checking my stats and only about 3% of the views are from subscribers. Roxy and me need all the help to make it to the initial 1K subscribers.
Ron, I have a ton of video from our recent trip back over to the Sturgis area late May. I have started editing now and hope to get the first out in the next few days.
To be very honest, I have tried so many gadgets and TH-cam tricks and was producing a video about all the things that I have tried and when it was all said and done, very few added much value. To answer your question, it was a bust for me. Not worth the trouble. I continue to look for the “holy grail” of improvements and as I find them, I will share them in a video. Oh, BTW, I am likely going to anchor the lift to the concrete floor with TAPCON screws, I am so tired of the lift sliding when loading and unloading the bike.
I don’t think I have seen the 8 ton cylinder. I have seen the 12 ton and I thought that was the smallest. Is there a link you have to the 8 ton? I recently got a compressor in my shop and was planing to do the same. Hey, thanks for watching my content and taking the time to comment. Hope you subscribe.
Here is the description and part number: PITTSBURGH 8 Ton Long Ram Air/Hydraulic Jack - Item 58816. Have to buy it before I can open it and get the measurements to see if it is, “plug & play”, or will require modifications. 👍
@@iPossum 58816 might have too long of a displacement at 24” minimum. I have seen mostly the 12 Ton in other videos. PITTSBURGH 12 Ton Air/Hydraulic Bottle Jack 59425.
The Wheel chock is a harbor freight (Part Numbers 61670, 97841). I added my affiliate links from Amazon to the video notes now and you can go back to the video and hit the link for the scissor lift. Thanks for the questions and taking the time to comment. Hope you subscribe and if you buy through my affiliate link I get a small commission but doesn't cost you any more money. Thanks!
Jayhawk, these are Bates Tasers. There are limited sizes of the Taser still for sale on Amazon but the Batesfootwear.com website redirects you to Wolverine. I think Bates was bought out by Harley or Wolverine. I believe Wolverine already makes the Harley brand boots. I wanted to buy the all black boot but only found the gray in my size about a year ago. There is a “Harley” look-a-like called Harley Vardon Sneaker on amazon as well. Great shoe, very comfortable to ride with and to walk around off the bike.
How about that. Another way to add an aggressive gnarly look to the face. Grinding within a face shield 🛡 💪 😎. I'll send you my don't Joe yourself safety list, or not hehehe 🤪
R.H., I have thought about doing that. I have watched a number of folks’ videos with a few different approaches. Actually, a compressor is something I don’t have yet in my garage but I am sure I will buy one eventually. Maybe next winter’s garage therapy sessions I can make the jump to air.
Lobo, it has a couple of numbers, it is the Pittsburgh 61670 / 97841. They make a nice wheel vise too Item 57775, but you would need a person to clamp the front wheel before you could get off the bike. Thanks for watching, commenting and asking questions.
@@clemgriffis3446 thanks for the info I’m glad harbor freight finally made some upgrades, I bought one awhile back from them but was too flimsy for my road glide so I bought one from j&p that clamps down from turning a handle, it does alright but I have to hold the bike up with one hand while I crank it with the other.
R.D., I cut off 9” but I could have easily taken off 10-1/2” and still had a solid amount of angle remaking for the bolt. I may go back and take off that 1-1/2 inches. You know I have two of these HF wheel chocks since I use one for the back of my pickup truck so I have no problem experimenting with the one for the lift. Thanks for asking. Where are you from?
Clem, i am from Chino California. I have been on the fence about the HF lift. Now I'm convinced it's a good buy and with the mods you have done. Next time i see it on sale going to buy one. Thanks
R.D., I have been looking at other improvements as well. I refuse to do something that is of little value but I am looking to convert to air/hydraulic, just because I love to work on things like this in my garage when I am not actually out riding and camping. Thanks for watching from Ca!
Hello Clem, I read a comment on another youtube channel, the commenter said he punches a small hole in the lower portion of the filter as a drain, and another towards the top of the filter. It was stated most of the oil drains out the filter prior to removing. Sounds legit, think I might give that a try next oil change . What do you think?
Wow , your motorcycle improvements are great choices. Last time i shaved it didnt work for me . Don't 👀 see any reason for your beard. 👍no beard good choice .
Yes. Moment, as in Physics. Like applying force at different distances away makes things harder or easier. Hard to describe with our a picture. Better google moments and force time distance.
Thank you. I couldn't get my Road King out of the chock by myself the other day. Going to reverse that ramp and hopefully I will be able to get the bike out myself.
Hey brother, I hear what you're saying about the oil filter mess. I found the straighter. You keep your bike in a upright position. The less oil in the filter, the less mess. You will have work great for me. I put. An old peace of decking plank underneath my Jiffy stand bike. Keep the bike upright virtually no oil comes out of the filter. Hence no mass. You're doing way too much work for nothing.

Wow great idea. Now I cant wait for the next oil change to give it a try.
Will have to admit I laughed out loud when you backed over the oil drain container after you made sure to get everything else off of the lift.
We aim to entertain if not inform :)
Thanks, I did the same thing you showed us. Grip tape, wheel chock and modifications.
Great. Be careful with hydraulic brake fluid on the surface. It will eat up the grip tape!

Thanks for the sub!Glad you found value in the content. More to come!
Poke a hole in the filter with a punch or drill. Then use ur funnel to keep oil off ur bike. 😊
Great tip!
Awesome - have the same setup and the chock is unnecessarily long. HF has a 8 ton pneumatic piston, thinking about swapping out the hydraulic.

Have you thought about.adding an air ram to the lift?so you don’t have to pump manually.

In layman's terms does "less of a moment" mean it is easier to back out?
Yes. Moment, as in Physics. Like applying force at different distances away makes things harder or easier. Hard to describe with our a picture. Better google moments and force time distance.

A piece of folded cardboard works wonders.
At what location?
Underneath the oil filter, you can angle it down so the oil runs away from the front of the engine and into the pan.
