I drive often at the ring but most guys that drive fast around the ring are to scared to do a lap lol
@calvinpas3384 I'd be scared too but I believe that's the difference, drivers who want to drive their cars to the limit do it on a track rather than showing off to impress their little friends on public roads
@@markrhoden68 jup thats the diffrence. Sure i drive fast in public sometimes but i know where. Mostly if somone challenging me to drive fast im like sure meet me at the track lol

Looked like a scatty lap, the car seemed very unsettled and misha’s face said it all when you asked what do you think. But pretty cool build 👌

@@olivert3838 That was my thought too, especially in the rear - came unstuck pretty abruptly. Maybe just dial down the compression a bit at both ends with a bit softer yet in the rear.

@@hampshirephoto I mean look how far you have went with it and it handles like sheet. Not sure what tyres you had on... If they was good then you need to seriously look at the handling.
@@johnboy2436the tyres were cold at the start bud and I can’t say that that handled bad at all for how hard that was driven just a shame about cooling really but the car has never really been driven like this before, only way to find faults with the car is drive it hard for a long time and the faults will be pin pointed, he now knows what needs doing too make this car complete….. and plus a car with cage and lots of stiffness in the cars suspension body etc will make the rear end twitchy as there’s gunna be no or not much body roll ?
Personally don’t think Misha looked very impressed driving this. Seems to understeer severely, lacks grip exiting the corners, and I can see it’s getting heat soaked which is probaly why it went into limp mode with the oil temps getting high.
That little slide in first few corners made him worried for the rest of the lap 😂..

For a purpose built track car this thing was useless, it’s all over the place. You could tell Misha wasn’t impressed. It couldn’t even complete a full lap 😢
There isn't a purpose built track car in the world that was built and perfect from day 1, more time goes into testing and tweaking than anything else, they're never really finished 👍
Should have got yourself an i30N, out of the box would be more track ready than this

@@SteveSWC well I’m going to have to say your wrong if your look at all his other videos he has facial emotion smiles but on this you can tell it’s a face of dissatisfaction disappointment, a car built for this exact purpose and it handles like shit

It is a cool build ,,but it looked extremely unsettled,,hard to turn a cheap golf passenger car into a race car ,, not sure if u have an oil cooler tho . Rabbit hole continues lol,good luck

I thought rough shifting on my manual R had to do with worn engine mount but seeing these shifts, i think i am alright… 😅

Ohlins road and track, and you need a set of PFC brakes and Endless MA45Bs at minimum also get brake cooling ducts.
Heat management:
Racingline additional oil cooler,
CSF water cooler,
CSF additional cooler
Dont track it without these
TCR sytle open hood too
And buy the Verkline set.
Google Verkline, and buy everything they offer for the Golf R. You will not regret it. Then bring it back for him to drive again

Awesome video mate! Track cars are never complete, people know this. You have to give them hard shake downs like this to see which areas you next need to focus on improving.
Misha is a next level driver. Definitely king of the Ring!

I'd say 50k including car. Can easily drop a few thousand on a diff with labour. Gotta be 5-7k to get from stock to stage 3 with engine hardware and tuning then another 10k on handling mods. The coilovers he has must be 3-4k. Brake kit another 3k... All the aero, wheels, seats, it's endless...
Well asked Love all you videos but one thing you never do is give any details about cost like the best channels out there. I posted a question about your mk 5 but went unanswered. Sure loads of peeps would love to know cost not cos of jealously but to put into perspective and to work out how much we have to save to get things done !
I’m 20 years old been driving a year and got 1 years NCD, im currently driving a 1.4 Seat Ibiza FR but my dream car is a Golf R, My cheapest insurance quote for a Golf R is £160 a month and the finance would be £330 so £490 in total a month combined for the Golf. Do you recon I should go for it or wait another year or two?
Put a bigger deposit down and get smaller monthlies if you’re asking this question.

He has allot of supporting mods done at reputable shops. If they felt it needed more? They would have done it. Fore where it is now power wise? Its all it needs.

@@GolfRJthere’s no such thing as safe , it’s all pot luck if it lasts or not, he keeps up with maintence etc so he’s got a good chance it will last but like I say they can still go bang. Always got to have some money aside or a back up plan in case the worst
@jordanlegard3764 that could be said for any engine standard and/or tuned, these have proven time and time again to make this much power and not really cause any issues which is why they do it 👍
@@TheWildPikey a lot blow up mate , alot are hidden and kept hush hush. Others are perfectly fine making 550+ it’s luck of the draw, I had one just under 500 hp and had no issues
Reading some very negative comments, yes the car looked a little scatty but when are these cars ever finished. Seeing what’s been done already I just know the car will be taken even further with what’s been learnt from this outing.

Get the Goodyear F1 Supersports like igot on my GTI Clubsport! Youll have better traction mate they stick like Ironed Glue to the tarmac mate! They said to have even better traction the Michelin 4S or similar 👍
Crazy to see all the comments hating this Golf when this is its first actual track day. It’s a work in progress, it’s built, not brought.
Thanks for understanding! It’s a project & never complete! It’s done approx 20 track days, but this was it’s first time at the ring - arguably the most intense outing for the car, especially with a highly skilled driver

You should be proud of where you are: taking a vehicle to this level. It takes time for cars to be ideal, depending on the application you desire. had myn was almost finished until I racked it, so I'm basically beginning over: Misha is highly esteemed, which is why he is your go-to guy: you definitely have minor problems to address:
Adding a buttom Areo lip that is supposed to support the car, but instead does the opposite, is a challenge. I would have the Gents redesign it: maybe divide it into two portions: then test:

Stage 3 and no oil cooler? A oil cooler is even needed with a stock non tuned engine on track. and on hot days it's even worse.
It has an oil cooler.
@@hampshirephoto Ah i didnt saw a oil cooler radiator in the front (im assuming you would place it there lol). But where lies the overheating issue? would be very useful information.
I assumed the cooling system was already upgraded, if not going to need to make a call to APR and have a nice HD Aluminum one installed, do you have an oil cooler? Ive seen all the videos of this R just don't remember if it had an Engine Oil Cooler or not. If not? Should get one of those too. Curious to what pads you will need. In the UK where you usually track this car it does not see the speeds that it hit in this video. Curious what you will upgrade to. Will be keeping my eye out on more content on this R. 👍
I do have an oil cooler yes. As for the braking setup, it’s more than substantial for my driving capability!

have the same issue when i went to the ring last week apart from it would do that after a few runs (about 2/3 runs), boost regulation not met - have you scanned it for codes?
At about 3:41 you can see the car start to come into it's own, only car on that part of the track for a bit, Misha was in the Zone too. Great vid!

I wouldn’t be too upset it didn’t complete the lap. The latest civic couldn’t either, and that was meant to be stock. Makes me question their lap record!
The handling looked skittish on yours however, adding large aero is great, but that looks a bit off balance to put it mildly.
