    They should just go all the way: In the end James becomes pissed off at the Witch's hocus-pocus trash, so he tears off his shirt revealing his sculpted body and yells "Common bitch, lets rumble in the jungle!". "Down with the Sickness" from the band "Disturbed" starts playing while the witch and James fight like people with years of martial arts experience. All this happens while Lisa reads Latin to dispel the witch. James side-thrust kicks the witch into a spike and exclaims "Game over, blair bitch!" He grabs Lisa and they start making out. The sun rises again, que credits.

    About that one spoiler....
    Time travel in the Blair Witch mythos isn't exactly new. In the Blair Witch special that aired on Sci-fi, they said they found the footage in the foundation of an old building, but it was placed in such a way that it had to have been placed there when the building was being built. Like it got taken back in time.
    And while I'v never played the Blair Witch PC games, I've read that they include time travel as well. The reason the bodies of the original three were never found was because they where sent into the past.

    Hahaha. The way you did the voice for the characters jump scaring each other reminded me of that "Cape Fear" episode of The Simpsons. The one where they're in a boat house and Bart is anxious but trying to go to sleep and Homer bursts in with a knife screaming about brownies, and then comes bursting in again wielding a chainsaw and screaming about his new hockey mask. HAHAHAHA.

    Serious question (not serious) Do the directors/writers now what a witch is? Cause the monster in this movie is more reminiscent of T-Rex or a boss from a silent hill game. Witches are old women who cackle and hunch over, not a 10 foot tall behemoth that can throw trees around like a silver back gorilla.

      The witch is actually Harambe

    • @Mitabrin
      @Mitabrin 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But wasn't the actual witchy witch also in the movie? I remember, that when James was looking for Heather in the Rusin Parr's house, in one of the rooms for like 1-2 seconds the witch appeared in front of him in person (and clearly it wasn't Heather's ghost)... I'd say that if the forest is cursed by the Elly Kedward's powers, then it'd be reasonable she wouldn't manifest her appearence only as a stereotypical old hag...

    • @GoodBadFlicks

    • @imaretard6876

      director actually said that in this movie you never really see the witch, and that creature is something "else". fans usually speculate that the creature is actually heather from pt.1 that went throught some unexplainable transformation. the witch in this film is probably represented only with abstract white light the protagonists see through the attic in the end. some even say that actually means that there is no witch at all, but that those woods are hounted with aliens instead. but everything is open to interpretation, and that is why this movie is fucking good, and showing the tall creature for 2 seconds didn't ruin the mistery at all. do your research, cunt.

    Is it possible that the movie has been "Book of Shadow-ed" - i.e. Adam Wingard's original version, while still a found footage film, might not've included the additional demonic screams, the constant jump scares, or the Blair Witch herself. Those seem like studio head notes.

    • @GoodBadFlicks

      I really enjoyed it too though now they have re-established the universe, if they do a sequel to this I think they need to evolve the series more and change things up. Repeating it yet again would become redundant. Do a prequel or something set in oldie times showing the events of coffin rock or something.

    You make many solid points here. At the end of the film I walked out of the theater feeling quite underwhelmed. My major gripe was I could not have cared less about any of the characters. They were so bland and generic. The original made me care what happened to the involved characters and the tension and psychological distortion only grew as the film progressed. Not terrible I suppose, just didn't live up to what I was hoping for.

  • @derekconnors4128
    @derekconnors4128 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think instead of directly showing the supernatural stuff, they should have brought back Josh and have him as the villain. Say that he started hearing voices like Rustin Parr and that he killed Heather and Mike at the end of the first film (which could be why Mike was standing in the corner at the end.) And they shouldn't have had any time travel stuff (the stuff with the tape traveling through time didn't even make sense. The guy who posted the youtube video only had that short clip, but when the tapes and cards were "found" they had the complete footage. How does that work?)
    There were elements that I liked, and I'm glad they incorporated the Blair Witch lore (Eileen Treacle, Coffin Rock, Rustin Parr) but yeah, overall it kind of disappoints.

Well he must hate black people and support slavery", but of course that's not the case at all. Actually, a person flying a confederate flag, has nothing to do with slavery or black people!

    Showing the witch makes the entire film pointless, especially when it's just a generic demon design almost akin to a Pumpkin Head rip off.
    If you're going to show the witch then why not stay true to the brief description given in the original of an extremely elderly woman who was covered in thick animal hair all over her arms, legs and chest.

    • @kaneinight
      @kaneinight 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      AMEN. Not to mention the part of her feet never touching the ground. What I always pictured in my head from that description beats anything some lazy studio could throw together on a computer.

    • @SpeedBoost
      @SpeedBoost 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah the only problem is Hollywood would interpret "her feet never touched the ground" as her flying all over the place in awful CGI instead of the subtle image of her just sort of hovering less than an inch above the ground.

    • @SpeedBoost
      @SpeedBoost 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't know how much this directors opinion really matters as they've completely screwed up the simple Blair Witch lore established by it's creator's with this mess of a movie.
      If that awful monster isn't the witch that's even worse, as that means it's just a monster that they threw in to the movie for no reason.
      What made the first movie so effective was the ambiguity of what was happening, this new version is worse than The Book of Shadows as it introduces terrible cliches and a convoluted story instead of creating actual scares.

  • @kylej9759
    @kylej9759 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    To be fair, there's time travel in the first movie too. That's how Rustin Parr's house (which was demolished decades ago) is still standing in the film, and probably why they couldn't find the road (it didn't exist in 1941).

    • @GoodBadFlicks
      @GoodBadFlicks  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It was never said for sure though if it was Rustin Parr's house or that there was time travel, it was open to interpretation. In this, the time travel element is idiotic.
      Spoilers
      The video they see in the beginning is the one they are shooting. So the witch has them send the video they shoot in the future into the past so they lure themselves into the woods.

    One thing that bothered me about this movie immediately from the trailer was how it seemed like there would be a lot of obvious supernatural stuff being thrown around the whole time, like that scene where the tent flies up in the air, and I feel that one of the primary things that made the first film so effective was that nothing shown couldn't be explained scientifically. It gave the film a sense of authenticity that's still rare in found footage movies.
    The second film managed this as well by not letting the characters capture anything obviously supernatural on video and accompanying it with the statement: "video never lies, but film does".

    • @GoodBadFlicks
      @GoodBadFlicks  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There were supernatural elements in the original but they were very dialed down as to make them ambiguous. Was it a witch or something else? In this, there was no doubt whatsoever and they made that clear pretty much the entire film.

    It's part of a Hollywood trend that's going on right now that I compare to the "rumors" about Spielberg actually directing Poltergeist. They bring someone with a modicum of indy cred like Garreth Edwards to a project like "Jurassic World" or Star Wars 50 and suddenly the fans are appeased that a "good director" is on the film so maybe it isn't reheated garbage. Then, sure enough, every time, that original director's voice is completely gone and the reboot is a studio produced scene-for-scene, completely safe hack job. Stop supporting these financially and they'll go away.

    My theatrical experience of watching Blair Witch was FUCKING terrifying. The 5.1 surround involving the Woods in the night felt so claustrophobic and every SNAP and brush of a twig and leaf made me jump, because the foley department did their job TOO well.
    It reached a point where I literally felt cold watching the movie as if I was out in the dark deep woods at night.
    That experience stays with me to this day and taught me two things:
    Theater experience is unparalleled
    And AMBIENCE is fucking key.

    I agree with you completely, I've loved the lore and had a fascination in the blair witch since i was ten and saw it. I had a slew of the young adult novals about the drowning ghosts and the murders. And I write I've been a writer since the 6th grade and I have so many ideas from the lore that could be drawn from the blair witch, there's so many angles you can go to with a lineage and lore like this and I felt like they wasted and amazing opportunity. That being said, Barret on Twitter said that the figure we see in the forest and chasing the girl in-fact WAS NOT the blair witch, but in fact a "victim" of the witch heavily implying maybe it's heather. Heather was originally supposed to make an appearance by the actress wanted nothing to do with the project....so idk. If the thing we saw wasn't the witch then maybe it could be argued we still arent sure if she's a presence or an actual being, or spirit.

      Except for the fact that in-universe, they have found the footage shot by the three filmmakers and thus eventually after the police did nothing about the supernatural occurrences and wrote it off as a hoax and finally released the film footage out of police custody as evidence, Heather's Mother went to Artisan to put the footage out into theaters hoping someone out there could figure out what happened. So in a sense he WOULD have seen that movie and would recognize his sister's voice.

      The movie essentially tried to get across that you CANNOT look the Blair witch or whatever it was IN THE EYE. Cornering yourself would keep it away.
      Not gonna lie, it KINDA makes sense but by that logic it turns from Blair Witch to BIRDCAGE.

    I agree that it was dumb that the girl with an injured foot decided to climb a tree in the dark. However if you were in a very desperate situation and saw a possible glimmer of hope in the drone being able to find you a way out, maybe you would make that dangerous choice to climb up and try free it.

    The time travel didn't really bother me. The first movie had the scene where they walked all day just to find themselves at the same river crossing. If there is no witch, they just got turned around and didn't realize it. If there is a witch, that could imply that she power over reality.
    The second movie, the characters kept seeing visions, usually moving backwards. Plus there's the whole aspect of truth only existing on film.
    So having the witch cause her victims experience time at different speeds, directions, etc. I didn't think it felt that out of place.

    When i heard there was a new BW film coming out i was really excited and looking forward to it, i read all the early reviews saying it was really scary and a fitting sequel. Everything looked so promising.
    What made the first one so great (among many other things) is that they kept just the essentials, it was very minimal. As Heather herself said in the BWP she didn't want any cheese. Well, sadly this outing for the Blair Witch is saturated with high-fat cheese. It really is just another generic big-budget studio horror-movie like any other with lots of noise, and sound effects, fast panning and editing, it has zero subtlety which is one of THE things which made the first so eerie and creepy.. It is in no way the spiritual sequel to The BWP
    As mentioned in the video the character of Peter was a major flaw in this film, such an obnoxious, one dimensional character who's only role it seems was to mock and laugh at everything, the guy was a total and utter twat.
    Such a major disappointment. The directors of the original must know that this was an opportunity wasted and i'd like to have seen them do a 'proper' CHEESE-FREE sequel, hopefully one day we'll see that film, not anytime soon i expect.

    I enjoyed the movie, although, the jump scares were pretty annoying, and the digital noise and "malfunctioning" of the ear cams was also frustrating. Im not sure what direction they could have gone with this film to make it as scary as the first with out it being a complete copy. I suppose if they left out the visual of the witch and maintained the 'is there really a witch, or are they just losing their minds' approach, it would have been more genuine and played with your mind more.

    I love your reviews and for once i have to say I disagree for the most part.
    Bar the added noise to heather's death, and the constant stupid fake scares in the mid third and the audio noises that were trying to be scares.
    I actually found the movie genuinely terrifying. The scene with the breaking of the stick man was a severe wtf as well as the whole ending shock of the footage. Sure the witch showed off more of her powers but that was foreshadowed by the stories Laine was telling as well as the sign on the tree next to the gate, but you only actually see the Witch twice and that wasnt very clear either, but her appearance again was mentioned by Laine :) Also Pete's antagonism with Laine and Taila wasnt just for no reason, he actually justifiably felt that they were praying on his friends belief in the legend and his sister. He may not have believed, but he was there for his friend no matter what

  • @jakepayne2985
    @jakepayne2985 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually, Wingard said after the fact, that the thing you see throughout the final act is NOT the witch. The thing in the house had its limbs stretched out like the legend, so I guess people are thinking that was Heather? Who had her body manipulated by the witch and turned into her minion? I dunno, I liked the movie a lot more than you did. Mainly cuz the final act was super tense and fun. And I liked the quick glimpses of the creature. You still made good points about the negative aspects of it tho. I really wanna know what that damn long limbed bastard is! I also believe Wingard stated it was one of the witch’s victims. I also thought the manipulation of time was a nice addition too. And that tunnel scene! That was intense.

    I honestly didn't find the first one scary at all. However, I can't deny how happy I was that an original film idea, made independently for less than $200,000, did so amazingly well. I find, however, that few horror movies truly frighten me. Or rather, few feature length ones. Most of the films I find terrifying are of the short film variety, and of them, only a handful. The only two feature films, oddly enough, that truly frightened/disturbed me, as in, they got in my head and wouldn't leave, were the original The Haunting, and Mary Reilly.

    Wait... They brought a drone to help keep them from getting lost? Have they... not heard of GPS? GPS is accessible anywhere on Earth, in any weather conditions -- even when mobile internet isn't available to superimpose GPS coordinates over a graphical map, you can access latitude-and-longitude coordinates to guide you wherever you need to go. Way back in the 90's, my family had an early GPS unit, and you'd just 'mark' your current coordinates in it before going on a hike and, that way, if you got lost, you could just walk back toward those coordinates...

    The Blair Witch went from... psychologically messing with people and making them do things on their own, to suddenly JUMPSCARE CITY with bright lights that look like a UFO landed outside the house instead of letting organic scenes flow of people talking like real people as they struggle with a situation beyond their control. This is how the original movie would've been made if the Studios interfered like they did Book of Shadows.

    The writer supposedly said that wasn't the witch we saw in the movie leading some people to theorize that it was Heather in demon form being controlled by the witch .
    I said in another video that i feel there was a parallel dimension where the witch resides and once you cross over you can't find your way out the woods, it's like that reverse world they mentioned in Blair 2 .
    I was thinking the light was a door to the light side,/ our physical world opening up, it's the only way to escape the realm of the blair witch , which that crazy guy and his girlfriend did but only because the witch let them .
    5 days in that realm is the equivalent to one day on the real side, maybe it's like a gravity thing , how on other planets where a day for us may be one month there but instead of physical gravity it's a spiritual gravity .
    I loved it , def not as scary as the original but i was still totally invested in what was happening and i enjoyed how they expanded on the myth .
    It could be a film that people learn to appreciate as more time passes much like the second movie . Hope there are some deleted scenes or a longer cut of the film , i have a feeling there were some key elements that were cut out .

    In 2012 a Q&A with the original cast of The Blair Witch Project, actor Michael Williams who played "Mike" mentioned how the executives at Artisan didn't like how the movie ended and decided to do a few reshoots. They tried multiple endings, from having Mike covered in blood, too having him being nailed to a giant stickman. he mentioned that this was the studio's attempt to have a more hollywood ending.... but the directors were insistent on keeping what they originally shot. It seems the 2016 sequel was under complete control of the studio. it's evident by the over-the-top special effects and treating the viewer like they are a complete idiot with having to re-explain the origin story throughout the movie .
