    the thing that frustrates me the most about this spider-man is that the villains he's faced so far have more beef and history with tony stark than they do with him. It completely takes away the aspect that makes so much spider-man villains so interesting; their relation to peter parker.

      I do understand your point about the Tony stark villains and respect it, I personally see it differently
      With the vulture, although Tony is the reason he loses his job, toomes never really hates stark and doesn’t really want anything to do with him, he uses stark and his wealth as an excuse to justify selling weapons in a sorta “where’s mine” behaviour, he is clearly living comfortably in a huge house in New York but because others are wealthier than him in general he vilifies them so that he is in the right in his own mind
      With mysterio, he’s definitely a villain because of stark but I also feel he’s similar in the way that he is spiteful against the world for idolising superheroes and not him, I definitely think that his team shouldn’t of also been stark employees though because that bar scene is what ties him so close to stark

      @d4nnylaflame896 2 ปีที่แล้ว +65

      It’s comments like this that show me that you don’t understand Spider-Man nor the comics, the villains in the comics don’t start off beefing with Spider-Man, they end up beefing with him because spidey is the only one around TO stop them. It’s the same thing with MCU spidey, only difference is that this is the first time spidey is in movies with other heroes so they try to show that. Mysterio being a former stark employee was a great twist and while he does hate tony he also definitely hates Spider-Man and wants to kill him.

    Old Spider-Man was a lone wolf, he managed his own hardships, he was miserable, poor, and we could see him crying in every movie but MCU didn't understood this, MCU only saw it as profit, now the iron man fans are supporting new Spider-Man because they are MCU fans not Spider-Man fans, old one stood up after falling, no one was supporting at his back. And I don't think MCU is gonna improve it, they made it less emotional and more comical. I mean the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series was quite better than it because there Spider-Man was the leader of the defenders. Hope you got it.

      This is the main thing wrong with this: he’s given everything. Also, this Spider-Man doesn’t have his own villains or anything…. If you replaced Spider-Man with Ironman in this film, it would be an Ironman movie. These films are like Spidey was dropped into an Ironman film, where everything that happened connects to Ironman and the avengers, rather than connecting directly to him and his mistakes. If Norman Osborn existed in this universe, he would have never met Peter before their fight, and would have just been a competitor to Stark industries who hated Tony stark. Its like a Spider-Man who was dropped into an Ironman film.

    Something always felt off with the MCU Spider-Man. It's like, I know I'm looking at Spider-Man, but it feels like there's nothing inside. His supporting cast is almost nonexistent or has been changed to the point of being unrecognizable. He no longer has his own stories to tell, it's just swept up into the larger MCU. His daily struggles are gone, his "friendly neighborhood" status is gone. These are not Tom Holland's flaws, but man, it's like eating off-brand cereal.

      @kalakeiko6933 omg, get over it. No Way Home is only good because Tobey and Andrew are there. If it was just Tom, it wouldn't be good enough for a lot of people. Tobey and Andrew were solo from the start, they didn't have anyone to help them. And when they did, those people turned into villains. Tom gets everything handed to him like someone already said. He's not content with just helping ordinary people, he's always seeking a bigger mission. Tobey and Andrew's spidermen didn't have a choice. They were humble to the point they felt they need to give up what they wanted in order to protect people with their gift. Tom acts spoiled and annoying. No Way Home is great, but too little too late. Just because they fixed his character in the end doesn't erase how bad it was the first two movies, not counting his appearances in the Avengers movies.

    MCU Spider-Man is now an heir to a billionaire's tech company, and even before that he seemed pretty well-off, in Far from Home the issues Tony's workers faced weren't really addressed at the end

Like, idk, risking changing the universe just because you didn't get into a college (and not even considering the parameters of that risk). Or risking changing the universe cause you felt bad for blood thirsty villains. Also villains can't just be cured with a shot. Even at the ending, the spell could've been modified. None of the villains had anything to do with the MCU Peter Parker. No personal stake. Idk, I thought the movie had an awful plot. I did like seeing Tobey Maguire back tho.

    Completely agreed! Spiderman was always my favorite superhero, and I grew up on that animated show. The Sam Raimi Spiderman movies were also my first exposure to superhero movies and I loved them. I actually really like Andrew Garfield's Spiderman, because like you said he's still the same character, they just changed Peter to more what the "modern HS loser" archetype looks like. Miles Morales, too, is an excellent Spiderman. But yeah Tom Holland (good actor, not his fault) isn't like that. And I guess I enjoyed his movies but they weren't the same.
    In other words, Garfield's and Maguire's Spidermen, as well as Miles Morales, are truly stars in their own Spidermen movies. Holland's Spiderman is a character in an Avengers movie that just happens to be about him.
    They also forget the most important thing about Spiderman: He is, truly, your friendly neighborhood Spiderman. He isn't the guy who travels around the world waving humanity. He doesn't have that luxury - he is the guy who is responsible for keeping NYC safe. Something goes down in NYC, and he's there. Because he's all about his family, his friends (such as they are), and his community.

And it was just for diversity brownie points, there’s no way anyone thought she was perfect to play MJ, the character is nothing like the comics and the same can be said for the actress. They went so far as to make MJ her nickname when her name isn’t even Mary Jane, it’s a bunch of bs. Zendaya is not Mary Jane Watson and is just another case if ginger discrimination, another ginger being black washed. There are actual black women in the comics ya know, the comics aren’t just full of white people. @Anastasia's Secret You’re an idiot. She very clearly took on more black genetics than white. Stop supporting the idea of race swapping characters, it is literally more racist than keeping white characters as white. There are diverse characters in the comics so they should be used as opposed to using the name and popularity of a white character and changing their race to promote diversity. People of different races and ethnicities are treated as if characters like them cannot work on their own and need the popularity of white characters to work, and that is 100% false and extremely racist. You are supporting racism when you think you’re supporting diversity, you are adding to the problem.
      Also Mary Jane Watson was fully white in the comics so it is race swapping.

I hate that everyone shits on Tom's Spiderman for being the least comic accurate nobody can ever give actual criticism to the new take without it just being based on a fixated biase or a side by side comparison of comic Spiderman's character. No way home spoilers ahead
    That problem is fixed. Tom's spiderman has faced, I'd say, the biggest consequence of his actions out of all three spidermen. He lost his Aunt may, but he also lost all the friends he made. Not just Ned and MJ, but the Avengers don't remember either, not happy, not doctor strange, no one does. After all they been through together as a team in Infinity war and Endgame, it's all forgotten.
    When doctor strange said "Nice knowing you, spiderman" at the end of the movie, it hit hard.
    About the character development part,
    Doctor strange told him to not call him sir at the beginning, but when he messes up the spell he reverts back to it with the lines
    "After all we've been through, I forget you're just a kid" and "call me sir!"
    And near the end, when Spidey tells strange to cast the spell where everyone forgets about him, strange says "call me Steven". Acknowledging his maturity. That's emotional
    Also, the part about "everything handed over to him".
    It's true he didn't make the Stark suits that he uses, but it is also true that he earned them and proved his right to use them at the end of the first movie when he used his homemade suit to stop vulture.
    Tom's Spidey is a more naive portrayal of Spiderman than Tobey and Andrew's. Like an actual teen that is still mentally developing. He was a kid making mistakes and being careless in all those movies. But by the end of No way home, he did learn a lot.

    The MCU clearly doesn’t understand Spider-Man at all. How can anyone be a true Spider-Man fan to think Tom’s depiction of Spider-Man is the most comic book accurate?
    Anyways, here’s my opinion on the best versions of Spider-Man:
    - Tobey Maguire Spider-Man (Sam Raimi Spider-Man Trilogy)
    - Yuri Lowenthal Spider-Man (Spider-Man PS4)
    - Comic Spider-Man (60s-90s Spider-Man Comics/Ultimate Spider-Man/616 Spider-Man)
    - Josh Keaton Spider-Man (Spectacular Spider-Man)
    - Christopher Daniel Barnes Spider-Man (90s Spider-Man The Animated Series)
    Garfield in my opinion wasn’t bad but I don’t think he was great. And don’t mind the dislikes, you are 100% correct. MCU never even had a Spider-Man, they’ve just had an Iron Boy Jr.

    • @darkseidwavyy
      @darkseidwavyy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @Andrew Casali I’ve always had great taste in Spider-Man. In my opinion, Comic Spider-Man is really underrated. I think the best comic versions of Spider-Man are 60s-90s Spider-Man comics, Ultimate Spider-Man, and 616 Spider-Man.
      But then again, the people who Think Tom Holland is the best and most comic accurate Spider-Man (possibly could be fangirls) probably didn’t know who Spider-Man was before Civil War and think he only appears in movies.

    In my opinion the MCU Spider-Man movies feel more like palate cleansers, similar to the Antman films or even Captain Marvel. I think they should've treated Spidey like its own entity within the MCU, similar to the Guardians. Give his movies a more distinct style or feeling. HC & FFH to me just feel like MCU entries no. 16 & 23. The Guardians movies however actually feel distinct enough, like you're watching sth different in a way. The same goes for most of the phase 1 films, they each had their own unique style which is why it felt so special when those characters all shared the screen for the first time in Avengers or when the Guardians first interacted with the rest of the MCU in IW/Endgame.
    I also think it's not that smart to compare MCU Spidey with Raimi's Spidey that much as they're both different ages. I'd rather compare him with The Spectacular Spider-Man show which in my opinion is the perfect way to adapt a high school version of the character. The first 3 episodes alone give Peter more depth than the 2 MCU solo movies combined.

    • @dog8438
      @dog8438 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Very good example with GoTG. Those movies feel extremely distinct in the MCU and that's exactly what Spider-Man needs to be. Peter's stories are very much self contained but the MCU doesn't let them be.

I think its what the real comic book Spiderman would have done.

    I agree, but it's difficult to completely commit to a character that you don't own the movie rights to. I understand why the MCU went in this direction. Someone told me after watching NWH that all the movies were his origin story.

      you shouldnt have to be told that, any background built prior to the present is considered to be an origin story. Youve never heard of a director making retcons? He obviously heard all of the complaints of the Tony Stark Jr. Spiderman. The other movies are a complete 180 from this one.

      @@Awesomemusic19 Thank you, I loved No Way Home and it addressed most if not all of my issues with this Spider-Man however, what I find frustrating is how dome people act like it was somehow always planned and all these complaints about MCU Spider-Man over the last few years have been somehow prematurely made because we weren't patient enough.
      It's clearly a retcon that was designed to be written in a way that addresses the past while addressing the criticisms this interpretation has received; comics do it all the time (although usually with more flawed execution).
      It's not our job as fans of the character and audiences to somehow assume that he's going to mold into the Spider-Man we know 4 years from now.

      Not really, no one could have predicted what the plan was for spiderman going forward, hell I thought they were going to stick with spiderman inheriting a good chunk of tony's tech and get special treatment with his company, and if they did then cycinide wouldve been right that they didnt get spiderman right at the fundementals. NWH makes me happy that he is finally gonna be the spiderman we all know and love, and Im sure cycinide feels similar. We all thought we were skipping spidermans origin and getting to the good stuff fast in homecoming when in reality we were watching peter become spiderman the whole time.

      Yeah I guess you're right, but the point of spiderman is that he can grow and change just like us. The progress and development of a spiderman character makes it spiderman. I feel like the MCU knows exactly what they're doing and they're trying their best to get their characters as close to the comics as possible.

    To be fair Homecoming did have pretty Spider-man esque moments. Despite Iron man telling him not to pursue the Vulture he did it anyway, knowing there's a threat out there. In the 3rd act of the film, despite getting his suit taken away he went for the Vulture anyway, used the suit and webshooters that he made on his own, pushing himself into lifting the rubble off himself and rescuing the Vulture when he was about to die when he didn't need to.
    I'll admit, a lot of criticisms for MCU Spider-man are valid, but he definitely has some good parts. And after the last movie they definitely did justice to him.

      The biggest complaint I here about the MCU Spider-Man movies that I absolutely do not understand is the “he doesn’t have consequences”. As you pointed out, sure, Stark gives him a suit, but he loses it! And Peter decides to keep fighting anyway. In the second movie he tries to avoid his hero duties and it ultimately costs him - his friends and the safety of the general public is all at risk because of a mistake he made, giving mysterio the glasses. I could keep going, but point is, when someone says the MCU Spider-Man isn’t good or isn’t Spider-Man because he doesn’t face consequences, I feel like they just can’t get rid of their bias and don’t want to like him because it’s not Raimi.

      Another consequence the MCU Spider-man has is taking a chance on sacrifice ever since Homecoming tbh. I mean Peter's been at that school for awhile. Has had a long time crush on Liz, but when he finds out The Vulture is actually her father, he puts that all on the line. While he's walking he realizes what could happen, he realizes the repercussions. If he captures The Vulture, Liz's life would be changed after finding out her father's been lying to her, she'd move schools, and he wouldn't get to have the dance he always wanted and was preparing for etc. By being Spider-man, he was sacrificing his chance with Liz. I mean shit he's young, so sacrifice like that wouldn't come easy. Yet he apologizes to Liz for not only ditching her, but probably also because it's such a fucked up situation, he knows what's gonna happen to her after this, and he doesn't have a choice but to charge forward into what he considers his great responsibility. He could let things be, and he could just carry on, but he gives up what he wants the most. I doubt he was even thinking about Tony Stark until after, but you still saw the guilt in his eyes if he didn't take responsibility. I mean shit if you don't consider that atleast one consequence then I might have to look up what consequence means again
