I was just diagnosed with GAD yesterday. Ironically enough, I told my therapist the exact same words you mentioned in the video "I'm relieved." Thank you so much for this video. It feels good to know that I'm not the only one having these struggles. Best of luck to you!!

Thank you so very much for talking about GAD and your experience. I was diagnosed with GAD last year and I always knew that I was a sensitive and anxious person, but what I have experienced this last year is new to me. It’s very much physical: numbness in arms and legs, amnesia, tingling, panic attacks - the feeling that I will never feel normal again. It’s very hard to find a good therapist here where I live and I’m struggling quite a bit getting help. I’ve been to numerous doctors and no one really takes the time to listen to me thoroughly. I hope I can find a way to heal and feel good in my skin again.

It’s my absolute pleasure and can very much relate to your physical symptoms. The lack of therapists is such a real problem we face. Have you tried Betterhelp or Talkspace?

@@TayoRockson So true. I am giving myself a new push today to look at therapists and call them next week. If nothing works, I will give Betterhelp a try (have not heard of Talkspace yet, thanks for that info!). Here in Germany the therapy is covered by our medical insurance but it is not easy to find someone who has free spaces. Do you have experience with Betterhelp?

Thank you for sharing this! I used your video for a presentation in my Diagnosis class because hearing a Black man's experience with this disorder is essential. Thank you for your openness and vulnerability.

Great video my friend ur story is very related to mine. Im 35 and been struggling with this disorder my entire life with out knowing. Last week i was at the Psychologist and i was finally diagnosed with general anxiety disorder. I remmber when i was 18years old i had this horrible phobia of getting HIV and Cancer. I remmber doing 4 blood tests to ensure im safe. Doctors will asked me ? "" did u sleep with some whos got HIV"? I will answer no. I remember one of the doctors mentioned its u dont have an HIV problem u have an anxiety problem . Of course i Ignored him and continued on my life. A year later i started having muscle tension all over my upper body and neck. I went to Physiotherapy and took multiple MRIs and nohing was found. I struggled with Perfectionism and always Afraid to make mistakes. My biggest struggle is a fear of not sleeping or failing a sleep. The moment i will fall a sleep anxiety will wake me up. A month ago i didnt sleep for 3 days straight. I want to the doctor and he put me on sleeping pills. I will be seeing a psychiatrist veryy sooon and i hope i will endd this suffering

Ooof I hear you on all this. It can take over the mind and be persistent. I’m so glad that you’re listening to your body now and will seek further help from a therapist. In my case, it was a complete game changer for me.

You’re so welcome and you’re definitely not alone. I have found that journaling and meditation have been really helpful for me. I use the breethe and bloom apps for my meditation.
