Or, you can scrub with hot water (wearing gloves) and SOS pads and get the racks clean in a half hour

OMG. THANK YOU. This works. I put 3 generic dishwasher tabs in bottom of one of those plastic Rubbermaid storage containers with 20 cups of boiling hot water from my hot pot. I let the tablets break apart for a few minutes then I put the racks in taking two dishcloths now soaked in the boiling dishwasher soap laying them across the grates and set the timer for 5 minutes. It nearly took everything off w just a wipe. I then proceeded to other side. I have not cleaned my racks in 10 years. WOW.

I hate how the oven says remove racks when cleaning oven. It would be nice if we could leave them in there and they would get cleaned as well.

Thank you! Only thing I will do differently is to use liquid dishwasher cleaner. All those convient little pods add to the micoplastics seeping into our waterways and are now being found inside of us!

Oh, wow. Thanks for sharing! I was going to go buy some (I don't have a dishwasher).
My new landlord left me with a really gross dirty oven. I am going to go over this morning and soak my racks. With dish soap. I hope it works.
I was over there the other day. I tried Dawn Power wash. I only left it on for a few minutes. It didn't take off the crud.

By the end of this week my oven is going to be so clean. Last weekend I tried to bake a carrot cake and set off the smoke alarm because of all the gunk stuck to the bottom and the racks. And that was after I cleaned it

All you have to do is boil a big pot of water, ad the tabs in, and cover the racks in one shot.

I can tell u from experience, don't take the easy way out and think that u can just put the nasty racks in the tub itself and clean them. U run the risk of staining that plastic type tub. Will definitely leave a dirty ring in the tube that will not scrub out. Just saying. Did type pad and mean green in a tall garbage can will work. A pumice stone for toilet works too. I get my pumice stone from Wal Mart, Kroger near me carries the same pomice stone. The stone tho will disenegrate rather quickly. Most ppl tho spray the racks with oven cleaner.

I put my oven racks in water and throw in the 2 dryer sheets and let it sit for a few hours and everything comes right off, there were a couple of spots I use an sos, but other then that they cleaned right up and were shinny. I saw this on a video, never thought it would work and was surprised it did.

1/2 to 1 cup of citron acid and 1/2 to 1 cup of cleaning soda do a better job because you dont have to scrub so much. If you use a rack siced container in length and broad you save a lot of water and energy. Just to say.

If you want to use oven cleaner, lay racks on a large piece of plastic (a black garbage bag works) outside on the patio before spraying. Afterwards you can rinse them off with a garden hose. You really don't want those fumes in your house if you can help it (or the mess). I find you still have to use some steel wool to get off stubborn burnt on grease. Be sure to read the oven cleaner label and make sure it's safe to use on the racks.

I take a large garbage bag and lay my wracks in. Either outside or in my tub, I reach in and spray them thoroughly with super strength oven cleaner ( hold your breath). I close the garbage bag quickly and let them sit like this over night. I clean part time and some ovens have been pretty nasty. I rarely have to scrub hard ,using this method.

I have also placed them on garbage bags outside on the grass, spray them and let the sun activate the oven cleaner. You can hose them off before bringing inside!

Instead of that little brush try a dish washing brush. IKEA has great ones but any sturdy one will do.The extra leverage the handle gives you, saves effort and time, especially seeing the rack has been soaking.

Nothing from the kitchen should go into the bathroom. What about all the bacteria from the bathroom?
These can be cleaned easily in the kitchen sink.
I do it regularly with just a brillo pad and some dish washing liquid in less than an hour if in a hurry.
We should learn to make do with whatever space we have.
