He's from Canada and he lost his sight at the age of 1 from a rare form of cancer. You need to check out him and Stevie Ray doing Look At Little Sister. He and his band were also the house band in the movie Roadhouse. He passed away in 2008.
Jeff lost his sight at 1 year old due to a cancer behind his eyes. Unfortunately, that same cancer took his life at, I believe, 41. His parents gave him a guitar as a child to give him something to do. With no lessons and no one to even teach him how to hold a guitar, Jeff just started playing how it was comfortable for him - on his lap. This is the result of a short lifetime of practice. I think his biggest hit was called, Angel Eyes, and it's a far cry from this. More pop, toned down type of song. He has a performance with SRV on a song called, Look At Little Sister. Straight fire, but this is my fav from him that I've seen. Amazing talent!!!
to famed Toronto blues club Albert’s Hall in 1985 where a then 19-year-old Healey - already renowned in Canada - was discovered by none other than Stevie Ray Vaughan. Some years later, Vaughan, the man I’d consider my favorite guitarist of all time, proclaimed Healey as the best guitar player in the world. That’s good enough for me. I can't believe he doesn't mention the legendary blues artist Dr John.
I don't know if you have heard of Peter Frampton. But he was big in the 70s. His live album is still one of the best. He has a good voice, amazing guitar skills, and maestro on the talk box, which he made popular. You can watch him on the midnight special. The song do you feel like we do showcases his rymthatic guitar skills. Finally was inducted into thevr&r hall of fame this year. Love him. I think Bob seger is my favorite musician with 6 decades of hits.
Saw the Jeff Healey band in 1986 or '87 at Memorial University in Newfoundland (MUN) when I was a student. This crazy mother threw his gituar on the flood and jumped on it. He played it note for note. WEARING BOOTS! NO SHIT! He did that. The only 2 acts that ever made my jaw drop to the ground was Jeff Healey and KISS. RIP Jeff.
Jeff Healey was a Canadian icon! My favourite time seeing him live was when he opened for Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughan in Toronto for their 1989 Fire Meets the Fury Tour.
I have two Jeff Healy stories. I'm from Scarborough. Just north of Scarborough is Markham and they had a little basement bar called Dirty Berts that had jam nights my bandmates and I would go to. One night Jeff comes in with a little entourage and takes a table. Later he got up and did a half hour session for us I'll never forget. The next time I saw him was when he and Jeff Beck opened for Stevie Ray Vaughn, shortly before he passed.
Having lost his sight to cancer at age 1 Jeff had never seen anybody play guitar. He didn't know their was a "right" way or a "wrong" way to play. He simply did what felt natural to him. And it obviously worked. We lost a great talent in Jeff Healey.
Oh man, Jeff was one of the greats, and a real treasure up here in Canada. I was lucky enough to see him live a couple of times, and his talent was off the chain all the way. This video is an awesome one-off, as this isn't his band, it's an all-star assembly of talent, including the legendary Dr. John on piano. If you love this, you should definitely check him out playing "As The Years Go Passing By" live in Germany, it's absolutely breathtaking stuff. Great choice, and great reaction as always - much love from Canada!

This lineup was epic! Healey, Dr. John, Omar, Marcus - talk about legendary! Jeff was a Canadian, from Toronto, and he was pretty big up here! My wife and I saw him in 2000, and they blew the doors off the place! He did a cover of Sunshine Of Your Love by Cream that I still remember clearly, 24 years later! What an insane talent, and he could play the trumpet too! Cancer took his sight when he was one, and unfortunately it also claimed his life in 2008 (he was 41). He, Dr. John & SRV are lighting it up in heaven! What a party. Cheers from Canada, eh!
I believe he plays guitar that way , which I have never seen any other blind guitarist play that way , because he was self taught and blind he didn't know any different . He had never seen anyone play . So that's what you get . One special unique talent . RIP .
Hi, hope you're doing well. I was 17 years old and my friend calls saying we've got to go to downtown Calgary to see a blind guitar player. We were both really young and I don't know how we got in, but we did !!. Incredible show and I'll never forget it forget it. Just a few years after I have become a stagehand and I set up the show and ran spotlight. Full circle
Jeff Healey was a Canadian icon. 🇨🇦 He lost his sight to ocular cancer when he was one. He received a guitar from his father when he was three. It was hard for him to hold the guitar the usual way at that age so he put it in his lap. Stevie Ray Vaughan said Jeff was the only guy that really pushed him to do better. Unfortunately cancer came back to claim him when he was 41. Two legends gone too soon.
I saw Jeff Healey at a small venue in Saskatoon Canada probably only around 250 - 300 people in February 1989, probably shortly after this particular performance in 1988. The Jeff Healey Band absolutely shook the packed house down and one of those rare moments in life to see such a Guitar Icon with just an absolute solid band. He had a really great Jazz Show on CBC Radio.
You’d get total Big time creds from Canada if you did a reaction to the Song “Action” by the band Streetheart from the album Meanwhile Back in Paris. Kenney Shields is an amazing vocalist and at the time of the Album, had three of the forming members of LoverBoy. The song “Action” is an absolute kick ass song.

Jeff died almost 15 years ago. How have you not heard of him? You Americans need to drop looking in your musical mirror and look north. Some of the greatest musicians I have ever heard are from Canada, my home and native land. By the way, I met Jeff on a few occasions and he was a special person far beyond his musical abilities. Also an incredible horn players.
I forgot to mention in my previous comment about Jeff, he and his band appear in the movie Roadhouse. The original one that starred Patrick Swayze, Kelly Preston and Sam Elliot. Jeff and his band are the house band in the bar that Swayze is the cooler for. Jeff has a few lines in the movie as well. The band was most of the movie's soundtrack as well.
If you ever see the original Roadhouse movie, you get to see him and his band, and he plays one of the characters in the movie. He was an amazing musician that we lost way too soon.
I have related this elsewhere on TH-cam, however I can't help but repeat it, truth it being and damn lucky as I was ... Mid/late '80s, Victoria BC, early evening on a warm summer Thursday: Me and some of the boys headed out to a local dance club / pick up bar that usually had a DJ. (🤭 Hey, I was young, well, late 20s, and there would likely be pretty girls there! 😂). When we arrived, we were perplexed to discover there was a lineup to get in, with posters advertising a live performer (not usual) debuting that night, with praises by the likes of B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughan. So, what the hell, we waited in line. Once we got in we sat at a table right by the dance floor, about 15 feet from a two foot raised stage. After ordering our beer, the band came out, obviously guiding a blind guy. My buddies and I kinda looked at each other quizzically. 🤔 They sat him down in a chair onstage, handed him an electric guitar, which he placed on his lap 😯 ... then, when they started to play ... my world changed. Forever. It was Jeff Healey and his band, before their first album came out: I had never heard of him/them before, but he, specifically, had my attention now. He proceeded to play the cleanest, most amazing, unbelievable guitar licks I'd ever heard. He played blues, he played rock, he played country, he even played a bit of what sounded like flamenco. He played Hendrix better than Hendrix, he played with his teeth, he played while literally jumping around blind like a mad man. He seemed to be having a religious experience onstage. Despite it being a dance club, NOBODY danced that night. Every person, patrons and staff alike, stood around, hypnotized, with their mouths agape, staring, hardly believing what they were seeing and hearing. I went back Friday and Saturday, and again three nights the following week, as they were playing a two week gig there. Their first album came out shortly thereafter, and then he was in a movie with Patrick Swayze, and then ... well, I sadly never got to see Jeff Healey perform live again. But I still feel blessed, and I shall never forget how amazing the experience was that first night I saw him play! 😊 Rock on, dude! ✊️

A few starters for you, Trooper, Goddo, Fludd, Max Webster, Kim Michel, Joni Mitchel, Tragically Hip, Headstones, Teenage Head...... Guess Who,
Funny, in the movie Roadhouse, Patrick Swayze says to Jeff, “You Play Pretty Good for a Blind White Boy” YES, YES HE DOES! Jeff was just an amazing guitar player and singer. So much talent. “My Guitar Gently Weeps” (cover) is Amazing and “Angel Eyes”
Jeff was 3 years old when he got his first guitar. His hands couldn’t fit around the neck so this is how he taught himself how to play. He does an incredible version of While my guitar gently weeps.
Music was his life & love he was one of the most talented musicians when he was alive- he played multiple instruments- played multiple genres of music (especially jazz) & had a music library that would rival any radio station !
There is a video of Jeff and SRV doing a duet Look at Little Sister. I suggest you take a look at that one. It is sad they are both no longer with us. Also from what I have read Jeff did learn to play the guitar the regular way but found the way he is playing here more comfortable. He was a wonderful talent that was taken too soon.
He has a great version of the John Hiatt song Angel Eyes. It’s a slower ballad type but Jeff’s version is really good. He’s also in the original Roadhouse movie as a house band. There’s a cool performance with Stevie Ray out there you should check out.
Let's Gooooo!A Canadian legend. I saw Jeff a little dive bar in Toronto the early 80s and he was phenomenal. My face looked exactly how yours looks right now 😂He blew up a couple of years later. Little sister with Jeff and SRV is a must my friend. Great reaction and Peace out ✌️ ☮️ 🙏

Jeff was 3 years old when he got his first guitar. His hands couldn’t fit around the neck so this is how he taught himself how to play. He does an incredible version of While my guitar gently weeps.
Jeff Healey was a MONSTER on the guitar and so was his band who recorded 5 studio albums 1 being a covers album.PURE FIRE 🔥
Izzat dr John on the keys ? Awesome
Angel Eyes(studio version), Look at Little Sister w/SRV
There's also a great version with him and Stevie Ray Vaghn. TWO LENGENDS IN THE SAME ROOM
It’s on the channel already! Absolutely loved it! 🔥
I think SRV discovered him. They play together in the movie Roadhouse.
I was fortunate enough to see him live once in my home town in the mid 80's. He was a true one of a kind absolute beast legend!!!
Jeff Healey was also in the movie Roadhouse
You have to follow this with Jeff and SRV performing “Little Sister”. Mind blowing.
Oh snap!!! 🤯
My fave guitarist ❤️ The man the Legend!
RIP brother.
✌️❤️ From 🇦🇺
Saw him in '88 .
Didn't disappoint .
Saw him the same year, in Montreal - still one of the best concerts I've been to 🙂
You should check out Angel Eyes.
Canadian hero and blind.
gotta see Live vid of him playing with SRV.....fantastic!!
Steve, love your reaction to Jeff, his signature number is CONFIDENCE MAN you'll love it, great job Sir.
Music was his life & love he was one of the most talented musicians when he was alive- he played multiple instruments- played multiple genres of music (especially jazz) & had a music library that would rival any radio station !
You mentioned SVR, well your next reaction should be Jeff and SRV together playing Look at Little Sister. Pure Fire!!!!!
Jeff Healy and his band were the bar band in the first Roadhouse movie.
I've been waiting for you to hit this one!
So much 🔥 🔥
Fortunate enough to have seen him around 86 or 87 in a small bar in Pittsburgh- it was such a fabulous show. He was amazing
You have to see Jeff and Stevie Ray together it will blow your mind
It’s on the channel already!!! It was 🔥
@@setonhillstudios thank you im canadian always loved Jeff and he had a great band
I remember watching this the first time it was broadcast on Toronto's Global TV. It melted m y mind and still does.
Check out Angel Eyes, and I think I love you too much. He was also in the movie 'Roadhouse.'
I’ll have to check it out! Appreciate it! 😁
Love this. I’ve been a Jeff Healey fan since back in the day. He’s amazing. Thanks for the reaction. 🤘🎸🎤❤️👍🙂🇨🇦
Thanks for watching!! Unreal!! 😳
Angel Eyes was my favorite of his songs. I hope you'll do it. Personally, I'd prefer a studio version of that one.
Reviewed it today! Unreal!! 🔥🔥
He has a great version of the John Hiatt song Angel Eyes. It’s a slower ballad type but Jeff’s version is really good. He’s also in the original Roadhouse movie as a house band. There’s a cool performance with Stevie Ray out there you should check out.
Oh Canada !....and Oh Jeff !
Angel eyes, as the years go passing by, he also did a cover of the beetles song while my guitar gently sleeps
Love his cover of All Along The Watchtower, Live from London
Jeff appears in the film ROADHOUSE with Patrick Swazye
That’s what everyone is saying! I’ve never seen it! I know shameful!! 🤦🏻♂️
@@setonhillstudios nah, no shame! Just letting you know in case you wanna look at it. It’s a fun film.
@@Tbirdhaynes Definitely going to check it out! 😁
Let's Gooooo!A Canadian legend. I saw Jeff a little dive bar in Toronto the early 80s and he was phenomenal. My face looked exactly how yours looks right now 😂He blew up a couple of years later. Little sister with Jeff and SRV is a must my friend. Great reaction and Peace out ✌️ ☮️ 🙏
Hey, you have to try Whiskey Train by Jake E Lee. I think that this one will blow you away. For real.
You need to check out Jeff's songs Lost In Your Eyes , Angel Eyes , Your Coming Home & As The Years Go Passing Bye .
Jammed with him at a club across the street from the El Mocambo called Grossmans Tavern. My wife was one of his nurses when he was sadly dying of cancer
Oh wow!! That’s crazy you got to jam with him! Unreal!! 😳
@@setonhillstudios pretty small music community in Toronto. I was a pro guitarist for about 26 years. Settled into playing mostly blues. Hey have you heard of Matt Schofield? Likely the best living blues guitarist today and a very close friend. He’s in the UK hall of fame but lives in Jupiter Florida now. You’ll see my name at the bottom of his website. Stick this out til you get past the keyboard solo.

@@setonhillstudios I’ve played with him as well. Here’s the kicker though, I’ve since transitioned. Played with him here in Canada and he had me up to London England to play as well.
