    The division between the adult and child world is also emphasized subtly by the fact that Mike and friends plot thread is a completely different genre than the plot thread the adults are experiencing.

      morikahjo you make a valid point, but I don't think rejecting the notion of "thinking like a kid" is entirely valid. The key to maturity and developing a healthy personality is learning how to outgrow the immaturities of youth without throwing the baby out with the bathwater. There are particular virtues and abilities that come much easier to children and the process of becoming a mature, learned and discerning adult, although necessary, can gradually diminish and degrade the idealistic, trusting creative and inquisitive nature of children that adulthood and harsh reality attempts to destroy and corrupt. Growing up, you start your journey of learning the wisdom that comes with age, knowledge and experience, but instead of letting it make you completely hardened, calluses, rigid and jaded, you have to learn how to rediscover what you lost from youth and reintegrate it into your adult self, maintaining the best qualities of both states of being.

    the adults can’t help? Didn’t Joyce and Hopper literally go to the upside down to save Will? And Joyce never was close minded, she believed Will was still there from the beginning. I think she is so underrated!

    • @giva938
      @giva938 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Joyce literally carries the whole show in each series/season

    • @growingupwithdisney
      @growingupwithdisney ปีที่แล้ว

      Joyce only really thought that way because it was her son that was captured, so she was desperate to finding a solution that wasn’t Will being ☠️. Hopper was very hesitant to listen to Joyce and the kids, he started off slightly belittling until he saw proof for himself (the same goes for Jonathan and Nancy)

    I feel like the '80s is when you first start to see many movies not just with kids, but ABOUT kids, and that really started to get at the way kids think and feel.

    Let the Right One In. In the words of Tomas Alfredson when he was interviewed regarding the adults who did not help Oskar being bullied he said, "the adults are not evil. They are just not there."
    As adults we have to remind ourselves we must be there for children.

    Odd that they're calling the classic Realistic TRC-214's "toys" when that 3-watt, 3-channel Cat. # 21-1637 handheld CB radio cost close to $200 each then (without the battery pack or crystals) and was ANYTHING BUT a toy. It literally cost more than some 40-channel CB radios designed to be mounted under the dashboard of a car or truck. (Vintage Radio & TV expert here, sorry). Still love the show, even though the 40-channel CB that I built into an old briefcase with heavy Power Wheels batteries around '83 and used that suitcase-sized contraption for emergency assistance during & after the Tornado of '85 in Ohio cost less.

    10:25 Nope, '80s small-town parents actually were that laissez-faire; that's accurate; which is funny when you think that there was more crime (per capita) back then compared to today. People are much more frightened now.

    • @TheSuperNats
      @TheSuperNats 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ed Fagan I think the amount of crimes scared people into having a tighter hold on their kids nowadays and maybe that helped curb some kids turning into criminals.

    It should be noted that calling a slingshot a toy, especially a "wrist rocket" is rather misleading. You can injure and even kill someone really easily with one, and the wrist rocket is designed so that its braced against your forearm, putting even more power behind a shot. Its a weapon, just one that kids use more than anyone else.

    While most of what you mentioned succeeded on me, the walkie-talkie comparison actually didn't resonate at all while I was watching, because I've never really thought of it as a toy. I didn't lower the stakes because I only perceived it as a way of communication. I guess there was security provided by the fact that it was a less accessible communication method, but it didn't get watered down for me. Just thought that was interesting

    6:24 ummmmm... Shows what you know, it isn't his fancy name for a slingshot, it's the name of the actual slingshot, I know because I had one. It's called a wrist rocket because it has a piece of support that goes on your wrist for stability, and the elastic allows for very powerful and far throws.
