I have struggled with the gel plate I never seem to get the look I want. Watching your video has given me so many more ideas and the confidence to try different ideas. Thank you Alison for sharing your talent.❤️
I think one of the main things is not to start out with a particular end result in mind... play, explore, try things out. If you're just working with printer paper, you're really not going to lose much by experimenting. Be curious about the results each time, notice what you like and what you don't, and move on to the next "what if?" trying something different. That way, you don't "fail" or "get disappointed"... and hopefully the "struggle" becomes an enjoyable adventure instead. And as a side effect, you'll end up with loads of interesting prints which I'm sure you'll be able to use in one way or another!! Thanks so much for watching, and for your company on this creative journey.
As a baby-new beginner to crafting, and retired music teacher, I really wasn’t sure how to use the many craft supplies I inherited, so thank you for this lesson. It’s a delight to see people so enthusiastic about inking and the beautiful colours available.
So happy to hear that you are discovering how to make the most of your craft supplies... playing and experimenting is the very best way to see what they'll do! Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment.
I listened. Didn't see a lot but liestened to you playing. And how you were playing. You did it in the purest way. Though English is not my native language and I focused on my own crafting I enjoyed it so much how amazed you were about the results. I enjoyed how easy you juggled all the inks and oxides. Last time I experienced someone having so much pure fun with bringing colour onto paper was with Bob Ross. This was so refreshing between all that negativity in the news and comment sections. 45 minutes well spent. I do not even have a gel plate.
I’ve seen many videos with acrylic paints. So this is lovely to see just one more ways to use my inks & Oxide’s…. Thank you Allison. You’re so talented..
I love using inks on the gel plate - hope you'll have lots of fun experimenting and exploring. Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment. (Not to worry, but I'm a UK 1xL Alison, rather than a US 2xL Allison!)
I love using my gelli printing plate. I have 5x7. 8x9, and 9x12 gelli plate using my Distress Oxides or Amsterdam acrylic paints with stencils or plants.😊 Thanks for the videos that you create. 😊
Yes, there are gel print videos on the channel already using stamps th-cam.com/video/Ooqn-7DoXVI/w-d-xo.html and real gypsophila stems th-cam.com/video/E7SiS4t3bO8/w-d-xo.html as well as a flip through of this handmade book which used both stencils and real plant materials - th-cam.com/video/lCP5JpwYs0M/w-d-xo.html Nature prints are probably my favourite thing to do with the gel plates... but they are such versatile tools with so many possibilities. Thanks for watching and commenting.
The gel plate is one of my very favourite tools, it is addictive as is watching someone else pull prints! I especially love the Turner-ish ones you pulled today! Glorious, very inspiring!💕🇨🇦
They really are great to play with - and always hard to stop once you get going!! Very happy you enjoyed the (Turner-ish) playtime. Thanks for your company on this creative journey.
Thanks, Alison. It was fun watching these lovely pages come to life using simple supplies. Enjoying mixed media, I forget that sometimes less can be more. The gel plate is such a versatile tool, isn't it? I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on what you would do with them too.
Sometimes less is more and sometimes more is more... I love layers and textures and lots going on, but often in a minimal way!! Very happy you enjoyed today's playtime and thank you for your lovely, thoughtful comment.
Thank you so much Alison, I really really enjoyed watching you create all stunningly amazing pieces. I absolutely love ❤❤❤❤ each and every one of them. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤
Joy, fun, exploration without expectations... I'd say that's a pretty good definition of creative flow! Thanks so much for your company on this creative journey.
Thank you so much, Julie - very happy you enjoyed today's playtime, and I'll make sure I turn the camera on when any of these goes to the next steps, whatever those are!!
I have recently purchased a gelli plate but have been unsure of how to use it. I feel a little more confident about playing around with it now. Thanks, as always, for sharing your creative journey with us.
Oh, that's great to hear... be confident, be curious, be playful. There is no "wrong". Don't start out with an end result in mind, and you'll never be disappointed!! Hope you'll have lots of fun exploring and experimenting. Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment.
Great - so happy you're inspired to play... I hope you'll have plenty of minutes (if not hours) of fun! Thanks for your company on this creative journey.
This was most enjoyable to watch, Alison! Lovely colors, as always. I’ll get caught up on your past videos, soon! I hope you have a good rest of your week.
Thanks Alison, just what I needed right now, a nice long video of beautiful gel prints. I have not used my gel plate with inks in a long time. I think it is time to get it out. This is wonderful inspiration!!
So fun to see you play with the gelli plate and meanwhile produce these fabulous prints😍 happy that you also letting us in to your thougths of what you can see yourself do with them! I would like to see that very much❤ Have a wonderful day, Alison and thanks for the inspiration❣️
It's Spring here in Australia & the roses have new shoots and the deciduous trees are getting new leaves and I think the wattles are blooming. So a very Aussie spring with greens & yellows. I love your blues & browns though. Ilove to add purple in to Autumn colours as you often see it in the beautiful colours of the leaves. Thanks for the video, Alison ❤
Yes, purple tends to play a big part in my autumnal crafting too, as you may have seen in the introduction to last week's bricks and stones video. Enjoy your springtime colours in Australia... and thanks for your lovely comment.
Some beautiful pulls there! So inspiring, I definitely need to have another play with my gel plate soon. Thanks for the inspiring journey through your play time with the gel plate today xoxo
One of these days, I'll manage to film some more layered, complex prints... but I keep having too much fun with the simple pulls! Very happy you enjoyed the inky playtime today. Thanks so much for your company on this creative journey.
I got a gel plate last Christmas, and I have been intimidated to use it. I think I shall try it now. Thank you for the free feeling video. I love all the prints.
Excellent - I hope you'll have a great time playing with the gel plate. No expectations, no stress... just experiment and explore. It's just paint/ink and paper, after all! Thanks so much for your company on this creative journey.
There are so many different ways to use a gel plate, and with so many different mediums... it's always worth experimenting! Hope you'll have lots of fun playing. Thanks so much for your company on this creative journey.
Happy you found your way here, and I'm delighted. you enjoyed the video. You can use most mediums on the gel plate... you can get some really exciting results if you experiment a bit! Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
I absolutely love gel plating, and embarrassingly admit to having too many plates!😆 Gel plates, paper, music and presto a wonderful day! I know what I’ll be doing Sunday! Thanks for this wonderful video! That subtle print would be a great background for a map! Just wow!❤
Sounds like a great playday to me. Hope you'll have a lovely time with (all) your gel plates!! Thanks so much for your company on this creative journey.
New subscriber from Australia - I love how your mind works and your vids are so calming to listen to while I craft along with you. So excited to watch the older vids as well.
Thanks so much for giving the opportunity to watch you play! Had a great time and I think I need to get my plate out soon, never used it, I know .... why wait .. 🙈😊. Take care, XXD
Oh, yes... definitely time to get that gel plate out and have a play! Hope you'll have plenty of minutes of fun with it (if not hours!!). Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
A gel plate is a really flexible tool, and great fun, but be warned - it's very addictive once you get going! There are several other videos on the channel with the gel plate - with paint, with stamps, with natural plant materials. Happy you enjoyed today's playtime, and thanks as always for your lovely comments.
Gell printing is a favourite of mine, mostly not for backgrounds. Layering different prints on 1 sheet of paper - and especially with flowers or plants is my passion. I really like how the pritzed mixed media paper turns out with oxide and distress, must try that too. Did you ever gell print with distress and oxide on tracing paper (the thin one, thinner than vellum)? I really like that smooth result, I guess these are great for nature stamps. I was afraid the ink wouldn't be permanent on tracing paper, but it is. Thanks for showing these long minutes of fun!
I have used tracing paper for printing, but I think mostly with either paint or alcohol inks. It's good to know that the Distress Inks will also work. I think I would also have assumed they might not be permanent on that smooth surface. And yes, one of these days I might get around to some more layered prints in one of these videos, but I keep having too much fun with just the simple pulls!!
Happy to provide some quality treadmill distraction. You can get great textures with paint and water (plenty of that going on in the mop-up prints here: th-cam.com/video/E7SiS4t3bO8/w-d-xo.html ). Having said that, water-based inks won't do any damage to your gel plate... (in fact, nor will alcohol inks, as long as you clean up afterwards!) what have you got to lose from a bit of playtime?! Thanks for your company on this creative journey.
They are lovely to play with... and as I said in the video, I particularly love combining them with the Distress Inks, so you get the contrast of chalky opacity and glowing translucence. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Was watching as I was working on an art journal page, so not fully paying attention to everything thing you did but very much enjoying the feeling of crafting with a friend 💙 I almost only use my gel plate with inks and oxides, haven’t become friends with my acrylic paints… The oxides really gives beautiful results!
Happy to have your company on this creative journey - how nice that you were on your own few minutes of fun at the same time. There are some paint/gel plate videos on the channel too (can give you links here if you can't find them)... it's worth making friends with paint printing - you can get some amazing effects! Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
That's right, "Rain, Steam and Speed" is exactly the one I meant, thank you - I always get "wind" mixed up in the title by mistake! Happy you enjoyed the Turner-esque printing!!
Lots of inspiration😊...blu and brown are my loves also....💛💙....I will try even with no water...I want to see the shade...thinking it as a 1 go 4 more to print on ...just got my gelli plate.. I have never done one in my life 🤭
Thank you for inspiering, Allison! I love my gelplates🥰 but I havent played with them since before summer, so I will defenently have a play with them soon🥰😘
Very happy to hear you are inspired to get the gel plates out soon (I'm sure they'll be happy to come out to play too!). Hope you'll enjoy plenty of minutes of fun with them, as I did. Thanks so much for your company on this creative journey.
Play away Alison! You are definitely in your most joyful element with each pull from your gel plates, so fun to experience it along with you 🙏🏼 thank you for sharing your playful process. I’ll drift off to sleep now with colourful dreams✨
I think the same, and then I take the leap and cut them up and then end up loving them even more (95% of the time!!). Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Such a wonderful way to use distress inks. I can’t wait to have a play. I wonder if tissue paper would work?? I’m interested to try all kinds of things now 😅 Thank you for the wonderful, constant inspiration ❤
Oh definitely... you can get some beautiful effects with rice paper and tissue paper - wonderful translucent papers to use in journals and tags and so on. Very happy that you are inspired to experiment and explore. Have fun playing, and thank you so much for your lovely comment.
Good! I'm wanting to put off the warmer colors for a bit, as well! I so *need* to get a gelli plate!!! Thanks for the demo! I'm loving this! Hugs! Peggy (Oh! Can I use my 'sticky mat' for a gelli plate?!)
Gel plates are great fun, and so versatile - definitely worth saving up for. I'm not sure what you mean by a "sticky mat", but if you've got a non-porous surface, you can certainly do a certain amount of "printing" from that - though you won't have as much flexibility, I suspect. There are also recipes around on TH-cam for homemade gel plates, if you have a quick search. Very happy you're inspired to play, either way! Thanks for watching and commenting.
I do know that you can still get the 3 Ranger Gel Plate set here in Australia as l bought mine 6 months ago and my favourite Australian craft shop l think has some in stock 🙂💚🇦🇺
Oh, excellent... good news for those in Australia, and I expect they're available elsewhere too, in that case. Obviously, since I've already got mine, I haven't been looking lately!! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hello Alison… TH-cam deleted my comment again… I’m assuming because it referenced a w e b s i t e for someone who uses the gel plate a lot,,, anyway… loved today’s play… loved the results… I usually use paint but love the droplet effect of inks. I just remembered some texture plates that would also be fun to use. The weekend is now past and time will tell our next play. Enjoy your week!!! 🙂
I have struggled with the gel plate I never seem to get the look I want. Watching your video has given me so many more ideas and the confidence to try different ideas. Thank you Alison for sharing your talent.❤️

These are ABSOLUTELY gorgeous! Thank you for all the inspiration!
I had such a lovely time with these - and yes, I do love the results! Thanks for your lovely comments.
What a fun way of playing inks with the gel plate!
Thank you - I had a lot of fun, as you can probably tell!

I do not even have a gel plate.
That's such a lovely comment, thank you. If I can share some joy and fun with colour, that seems like a pretty good contribution to the world!

Thank you so much, Julie - very happy you enjoyed today's playtime, and I'll make sure I turn the camera on when any of these goes to the next steps, whatever those are!!
I've never used my inks on my gell plate. This looks so easy and fun. Sometimes the gell plate stresses me our with acrylics lol.
Definitely easy, and definitely fun! Hope you'll have some stress-free playtime with your gel plate. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I have recently purchased a gelli plate but have been unsure of how to use it. I feel a little more confident about playing around with it now. Thanks, as always, for sharing your creative journey with us.

Excellent - thanks so much for that. Good luck with the latest book!
So lovely! Would love to see what you Do with some of these prints!
Thank you... I'll definitely try to remember to turn the camera on whenever any of these takes the next steps (whatever those may be!).
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone put the ink directly on the gel plate like you did. Only using the brayer. I love it.
So many ways to use the gel plate... it's always worth experimenting! Thanks for watching and commenting.
YAY looks so much fun. I've rescently started collecting the oxide ink pads... I can't seem to put them down. I love them xxx

Thank you very much!
Play away Alison! You are definitely in your most joyful element with each pull from your gel plates, so fun to experience it along with you 🙏🏼 thank you for sharing your playful process. I’ll drift off to sleep now with colourful dreams✨
What a lovely comment - happy to fill your dreams with colour... and always happy to share the joy of a gel print pull!
Now this is the point where I say to myself ‘I can’t possibly cut that up’! Lovely pieces and demo.
Hugs! Peggy
(Oh!
@@w0rdsandp1ctures No worries at all. Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone was wondering 🙂💚🇦🇺
How odd - and annoying - of TH-cam... Happy you enjoyed the video, nonetheless... I'm a big fan of an ink splotch!! Have a great week too.
