I see many people who write in English then tell them not to stop in discovering Dixit Dominus will be delighted by Winfred, Handel was my first discovery to the perfect music touched by God, greetings from mexico
it was one of my favorite Creek myths, and when I found out Handel wrote this small opera I was delighted. I grew up with Classical music, and I'm learning more about it.
I saw this performed last night by Musica Angelica exactly as Handel first staged it (except the garden was indoors) and with original instruments. Delightful!!
Opera Atelier is presenting Acis & Galatea this fall with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra. I'm not sure if we'll be able to put up entire clips like this one on TH-cam, so you should come see the show live! It starts October 30, 2010 and you can find more info on our website. We use period instruments and authentic Baroque gestures inspired by essays, paintings and sculptures from the period.
Hi: I think it's a wonderful, generous action on your part to upload an opera a month. This will enrich the TH-cam experience for many of us. (It already has; I'm here aren't I?) Maybe you could look into uploading complete operas. There are several on TH-cam though I'm not quite sure how they do it. Anyway, thanks a LOT!!
This is NOT an opera. Händel called this English-language work a MASQUE and used a quite different style and form than he would for one of his operas. He never meant this work to be staged (although it commonly is, nowadays) or to be sung by the kind of singer that he invariably engaged for opera.
Enjoy? That is too weak a word to describe how I feel -- this was the first Handel opera recording I ever heard. Thank you so much.
Love, love, love it! Thank you for sharing.
This music lifts the soul

I must say that this is breathtaking music. I need to listen to classical music, and in particular Handel, more often.

thumbs up if this music literally makes your day as it does mine.
Yes. Really beautiful. Like everything from Handel!
I wish to explore more of this composer but I fear losing this one that I love so much.
Es ist wirklich wunderschön.

I wasn't familiar with this work of Handel's. I found it while looking for "Messiah," etc. You're right, it's sublimely lovely. Thanks!
I love this work so much! It makes me feel good!
OA: Mireille Asselin was a delight. Fantastic performance, awesome sets and costumes. More!!!
Great Overture. Great Chorus...Great Handel!!
4:07 is the best part. OHHH I love that part
personally I feel that 3:09 is the best part. That chord is filthily beautiful.
i agree
Thank you for posting this recording. There is nothing like Sutherland singing Handel. Please post everything you have of Handel's!
i love this recording with Pears and Sutherland.
One of Händel's best Ouverture!

Handel's 'airyness' prefigures the Rococo.
@RusskiSuperPower Absolutely along with Mozart and Bach and Beethoven Brahms....etc
I sthis video available commerically?
wait, WHO is the ONE person who disliked this?

free and gay
The Overture - Magnifico! But, I don't like the chorus,strange sound...Sorry
quit crying. It is considered an opera or operetta of sorts...what does it matter anyway... its some of handel's best work
that was going so well until the opera waffle kicked in
true, but I don't really care much for the libretto, so dry and boring.
