What a beautifully fitting way to remember your mom. My condolences to you. My mother also lived until age 98--aren't we fortunate to have had them in our lives for so long.
I sang the Baritone parts in HS (not solo, but with the choir). The Hallelujah Chorus still makes me emotional EVERY time I hear (and sing along with) it. ❤
He did. I tell my kids Handel "wrote" the piece, but God "composed" it. He literally wrote it down in two weeks. He was taking dictation from Heaven. Supposedly he was in tears at the beauty of what was appearing on paper the entire time.
When composing the oratorio Handel reportedly told his servant, "I did think I saw all Heaven before me, and the great God Himself seated on His throne, with His company of Angels!"
Wonderful to hear the praises of Jesus, the Messiah, God the Son and Lord over all, put to such lovely music, and played and sung so beautifully. And He shall reign forever and ever!

Great comment - as this work vastly transcends the artform within which it is presented. It is, in fact, worship and praise for our creator. Kierkegaard - as his salutation for his most important and spiritually uplifting work "Purity of Heart" - wrote of a needlewoman who would set aside the most important part of her evening to sew the most splendid alter clothe with which she would - upon completion - pray and worship on bended knee at church. He concludes that it would be the greatest oversight of all to observe what was only there to be seen; the wonderful, well planned and rendered artistry. For it is the needlewoman's humble intent to offer to her creator her most precious reserve from the deepest part of her soul. She prepares - with all that she has in skill and time - an offering meant for The Most High. Handel achieved an extraordinary composition here - but it is a far greater act of prayer, praise and worship, if we - in humility - join with it in this way.
@@investorart58 Beautifully expressed Bro...what a lovely analogy of the humble needlewoman...which I appreciate as I love doing handwork and know with what thought...and how long...it takes to make an item well...in offering our Father our best efforts we worship Him...and set an example for others to follow...this was Handel's intent...thank you and Amen!

Wow! I've heard every version of The Messiah online and have sung it for years - and I think this is the best one. And the first I've heard with a fantastic countertenor. Wonderful!

"I know that my Redeemer liveth and that He shall stand at the latter Day upon the Earth; And tho Worms destroy this Body, yet in my Flesh shall I see God." Magnificent.
My father love this Handel Messiah in fact he make me to love it. I am 53 yes old I was talking of when I was 10-34 before I got married. In fact before he passed in 2018 he gave me the complete record which I brought with me to the US. This one of the first produced. All the music note and lyrics, comes in that black box with the photo on the cover, produce by Emi “ the master voice”I was listening to it from 11pm on Friday till 2am Saturday morning and just thinking about him and how he used to conduct because he love music and play organ including pipe organ in Methodist cathedral in Nigeria. He thought the choir then to sing alleluia chorus. This week was his birthday but he’s gone to rest!
I’m in tears. The Hallelujah Chorus always affects me this way. I have loved it since I heard it in junior high school It wipes away my troubles of the day. And magnifies my hope and love for the Lord who paid such a high price for our salvation. Praise the Lord.
This amazing work has to rank very high on the list of human artistic creations. As these comments attest one need not be a Christian to appreciate the soul-soothing majesty of the Messiah.
Wow! This is my very favourite performance of Handel's Messiah! Thank you so much Grace Cathedral and American Bach Choir and Soloists, San Francisco. Also for the written words from the Bible across the screen to follow and sing for ourselves. I am recommending this performance to many of my Australian friends. I am so inspired by every word sung so beautifully from verses both in the Old and New Testaments. I really believe that many people on hearing these beautiful words and music will give their lives to our Heavenly Father, our Saviour His Son, Jesus, and be lead in these very difficult and challenging times by His Holy Spirit. The music amazingly written by the talented Handel in two to three weeks; lifting us from darkness to light, from hopelessness to hope everlasting! How could we not give our lives to follow our Lord Jesus Christ.
This was so beautiful it makes me cry. This is just a tiny preview of what heaven will be like, praising the Lord Jesus Christ in the company of all the saints and heavenly hosts of angels. Just sublime. Thank you for posting.
It's Christmas Day. The family are all sitting around wacthing Christmas tele. It is cold and dark outside; dripping wet wth the driving rain of a British winter. I am ensconced in the corner, near the fireplace enjoying TH-cam on my earphones whilst eating Christmas Pudding with the luxuriously endulgent mix of custard, cream and melting ice-cream poured over the top and a small glass of Sherry to wash it down. I am comforted by the Nativity Scene as it fades in and out of Handel's musical feast and I am bowled over by the discovery of Eric Jurenas's wonderful expressions. They manifest as a purity of soul that augment his amazing talents of a man able to reach such delectible heights of angelic strain.
I'm 63 and have listened to this every Christmas since I can remember. Since my youth, I find it impossible to listen to any part of this magnificent composition without being brought to tears.
I would like to point out that that while I have heard many beautiful renditions of this, Handel's Magnum Opus, this particular rendition is one of the most intelligible versions I have ever heard. The soloists are all obviously very talented, and their pronunciation and diction are impeccable!
As my beautiful Grandmother would say; I know that my Redeemer liveth.... for he has guided this music to be written and performed. And I must add.... to such a wonderous standard. The looks of joy upon the faces of those creating this amazing rendition was wonderful to behold. Thank you for sharing your dedication and passion with the world. Peace and best wishes from Australia.
Since I haven’t seen it in the comments already: kudos to the sound engineers. One of the best recordings I’ve heard of Messiah, from a technical perspective!
Thank you for pointing this out. All the praises and talent would only be a memory of those attending if not for the honed skill and talent of the sound engineers. Amazing recording!!!
When I was 22 years old, I was changing stations on my radio, looking for some r&b music. I came across this beautiful choral music. I had no idea what it was. After the performance had finished, the announcer said "Handels Messiah". I was on welfare, didnt have much money so I borrowed the record set from the library. I laid on the floor in my apartment closed my eyes and listened. After the record had finished, I went and listened to "the trumpet sounds" about 50 times. The singer was William Warfield. Fun times!
What an amazing performance! I cannot get over the talent and skill and pure artistry of the soloists. When I was a child, my father would take me to hear Messiah every Christmas at the Handel & Haydn society in Boston. All the way home we'd decide which soloist we thought was best. With this masterpiece, we'd never be able to decide. I hope Dad is in heaven and can hear this version, he'd love it.
The tenor has the voice of an angel!!! What an array of musical talent. The orchestra plays straight from Heaven! Such a Heavenly, celestial choir. This performance is as though it is from another world. What a blessing!
I recommend you listen to the album which was recorded three years later. In the interim, it would seem, Kyle's tenor voice matured and he sings more parts for the recording. I think it's his unique voice that makes this a superior production.
@@vgil1278 I completely agree...I was drawing attention to the fact (and the album no-one seems to mention throughout the comments) Kyle Stegall's tenor voice riched new levels before the album was recorded. You can listen to many versions but you'll never hear anyone sing like him. Re Mary Wilson, she recorded an album with ABS a few years back...worth looking up!
I finally found a choir who did "He Trusted in God" correctly. I have sang in so many choirs that sang this song so "cheerfully" and completely ignored what the passage was saying. It was an angry mob that was shouting curses at Jesus. Thank you.
The Messiah is a magnificent composition. Handel truly poured every human emotion into every note, every word. I’ve been blessed to sing (alto) this wonderful composition numerous times & never tire of hearing every note!🤗❤️🌈
I could not hold back the tears that flowed freely as I watched and listened to this rendition of Handel's work. This is a gift for Christmas that I will take along throughout the new year. I can not but feel privileged to have my eyes and ears to hear and watch such beauty. If humans can sing with such perfection, it must be truly glorious in heaven with the angels singing. Thank you very much for sharing this.
Thank you Handel for opening the portals of heaven and transporting us with you into the presence of ABBA Father and the Lamb that takes away the sins of the world. What an eye opener and vision of the Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace!!!!!
My little boys and I are doing an advent book based on the Messiah for the second time this year, and I'm sitting here choking up reading the verses to them. I love this so much.
The healing power of Handel's Messiah is breath taking. God inspired, through Handel's special talent. This musical presentation proves beyond a doubt the majesty of Christ's death and resurrection predicted in Isaiah 9 and through out the Bible. "GLORY to God in the Highest, and on Earth Peace, Good Will toward Men." Luke 2:14 (KJV)
Amazing. Imagine Handel wrote this entire work of art in just over three weeks. That is divine. Happy Holidays to all. Thanks for this magnificent post.
Such beauty to feed our heart and soul..nessesary listening during this challenging and troublesome times. We are reminded to listen well and share. The lord was clearly with Handel as he created this masterpiece. I am so hoping the lord is with everyone listening as well.
The tempo through this whole performance is IMPECCABLE! And the Soloists! That wonderful Counter Tenor absolutely blows me away! Ive listened 3 times already and will relisten, im sure.

My new favorite version of the Messiah! I love a good counter-tenor, and Mr. Jurenas is amazing; way beyond good! All the soloists are fantastic! And the cello part in "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth" was perfectly balanced and strong. I love this!

This is just wonderful listening to this gem of an oratorio and music. I am at this time memorializing my 98 year old mother who died on November 30th at the age of 98. May her soul rest in perpetual peace as this beautiful music play on ....blessed greetings of the Season to all listeners and readers of this post. May my mum test in peace
God bless you. May your mother rest in peace.

What a beautifully fitting way to remember your mom. My condolences to you. My mother also lived until age 98--aren't we fortunate to have had them in our lives for so long.
God bless you... She passed on my birthday
Händels Messias (Messiah) is wonderful Music. Thanks for this Video.
If you are tired or down - this Music helps you anytime.
My wife took out her score from 60 years ago and we sang along with the chorus all the while tears flowed. Thank you for this moving video.
I sang the Baritone parts in HS (not solo, but with the choir). The Hallelujah Chorus still makes me emotional EVERY time I hear (and sing along with) it. ❤
No other piece of music makes me bawl my eyes out like this one. Glory to the Lamb of God, Jesus!
How wonderful to be born in a time when this glorious message in magnificent music is available! How grateful also am I for the gift of hearing.
I agree!
Wonderful singing, excellent choirs, music well executed, sounded like heaven on earth. This was healing after this dreadful pandemic year.
AMEN!
You seems like a wonderful soul. Keep express yourself in your beutifu wayl the world for your friends will be beautiful and rich
For the gift of hearing... I love that, allot to thank God for..
To God be all glory for such beautiful work and talents!
Handel must have written this masterpiece under devine inspiration. This performance is fantastic! Bravo!
Surely!
I definitely agree this would not be possible wo it. An awe inspiring and uplifting piece of music.
He used King James bible scripture with his God inspired gift of composition.
Wonderful to hear the praises of Jesus, the Messiah, God the Son and Lord over all, put to such lovely music, and played and sung so beautifully. And He shall reign forever and ever!
Yes He shall

One of the finest, if not the the finest Handel's Messiah rendition that I have ever heard by comparison. The Lord be praised!
The voice of God to lift our spirits because the darkness will not win!
Handel s Messiah remains my most profound admirable classical composition

To me its the worst, its so overplayed.
Beautiful!
Uplifting during a time of uncertainty. It reminds me that we have the gift of Jesus, our Messiah.
Amen!
I loved singing this in school and still love it to this day.....I can't wait to meet our Savior.....I'm honoured to sing about Him...honoured to sing the music created by Handel...and it will be an honour to shake Handels hand in heaven one day!!!
Yes, yes, and YES !

BRAVO!!! Hallelujah and amen!! Outstandingly amazing. . . Glory to Christ Jesus, our Lord and Messiah!!
Gloria a Dios , por siempre , para siempre y en todo lugar 🙏🏻🧎🏻♀️
I believe once we go onto Glory the Music we will hear in paradise will put this to shame. I had a dream once and heard Angels singing to me in my dream and the music was something I truly believe cannot be reproduced here on earth.
Sobre todo tomando en cuenta que handel era ateo.

This is a wonderful performance. Doesn't get any better than this. The choir, soloists, orchestra and conducter were outstanding. This is what Christmas is all about. Not all the gifts. Praise and glory be to God in the highest. Thankyou for uploading this marvelous performance.
I think this is absolutely the best I've ever heard and I've listened to this for about 75 years. My Advent project, this year (2021) is to listen every Sunday afternoon. Splendid performance. Thank you for sharing your gifts with the rest of us.
Helen, the actual album will increase your listening pleasure...recommend it!
I also recommend the album for your listening pleasure.
Somehow a very European reading, subtle embellishments, beautiful delicate counterpoint and great joy of all participating.

Have you listened to Sir Colin Davis' Handel concerts?
Wow! I've heard every version of The Messiah online and have sung it for years - and I think this is the best one. And the first I've heard with a fantastic countertenor. Wonderful!
The vocalists are incredible - agreed.
Its a fantastic performance. I will be listening again.
Absolutely stunning performance of Handel's masterpiece.
I have heard many performances of this wonderful Oratorio. This is one of the best if not the best in some parts . Listening from Australia. We sure do need heavenly music to lift up of spirits at this time of global darkness and madness . This is heavenly escapism at its best . God bless all involved . Thank you so much ❤️🙏

Music is life. Handel's legacy lives forever! I am thrilled!!
We agree! Both Handel's genius and his humanity are so easy to hear in Messiah.
Absolutely beautiful!
All GLORY to God!

Thank you for saying so ~!~ Amen ~!~
I’m in tears. The Hallelujah Chorus always affects me this way. I have loved it since I heard it in junior high school It wipes away my troubles of the day. And magnifies my hope and love for the Lord who paid such a high price for our salvation. Praise the Lord.
Handel was truly inspired to write this beautiful music! Thank you God!
Amen, Amen !!!🙏💐🙏
It is a deep blessing to hear Handel"s Messiah on Christmas Morning. Jesus is Peace. Amen
This was so beautiful it makes me cry. This is just a tiny preview of what heaven will be like, praising the Lord Jesus Christ in the company of all the saints and heavenly hosts of angels. Just sublime. Thank you for posting.
I totally understand what you're saying. I just start crying out of nowhere when I hear these songs
@@susanfischer4165 These aren't SONGS. These are ARIAS or RECITATIFS, according to the case.
This is the performances that touched my soul when I was still a young chorister singing bass
I Just Love listening to the Messiah every Christmas.❤
What a blessed man Handel was to portray the Messiah so triumphant and is all biblical that he created his music!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️
I'm 63 and have listened to this every Christmas since I can remember. Since my youth, I find it impossible to listen to any part of this magnificent composition without being brought to tears.
One of the absolute best versions I've ever heard.
Absolutely BRILLIANT!!! The Holy Trinity must be really pleased. Should be on everyone's bucket list (to watch/listen live).
The most beautiful oratorio ever written.. thank you Handel
Handel’s victory over death was his Messiah. Many thanks Handel.
Amen!
Thank you, Richard. We send our best wishes back to you in Australia!

Fun times!
I'm not even done listening to half this rendition, & it's the best I've heard in my life.
He is tall and handsome as well
I recommend you listen to the album which was recorded three years later.
In the interim, it would seem, Kyle's tenor voice matured and he sings more parts for the recording. I think it's his unique voice that makes this a superior production.
@@kevinmichael2023 They are all superb. The soprano has such a pure , clear voice!
Thank you.
Angry mop? Wow didnt know mops could curse. And I think you meant Mob.

This is probably the ABSOLUTE BEST performance of Handel's Messiah that I have ever seen/heard. My utmost compliments!
I appreciate very much the interpretive choices made with this choir that one doesn't hear elsewhere!

The healing power of Handel's Messiah is breath taking. God inspired, through Handel's special talent. This musical presentation proves beyond a doubt the majesty of Christ's death and resurrection predicted in Isaiah 9 and through out the Bible.
