Nearly got this camera a few months back, then I found the sweetest deal on a GR1v with a working LCD for £275! There is something special about those Ricohs.

@@MrWispish Yeah I’m UK based. I actually got it on eBay of all places! Won it in an auction which ended at like 3am. The listing mentioned that there was a light leak. I read somewhere that the light seals around the film window wear out over time so I figured that was the issue. I set a maximum bid on a sniper sight for £500. I woke up one morning to find that I won it for £275. Turns out I was right about the light seals. I haven’t replaced them yet but I just put tape in front of the window, shot and developed a test roll and it works perfectly. No light leaks 😊 Kind of feel bad for the seller but happy for myself.
And I thought I was lucky with my 500 EUR deal... And thanks Caleb, I thought I'm fine with my one and only point and shoot.
Great review, just pulled the trigger when I realized I can tape the dx code to have it default to 100 ISO, it's all I was looking for in exposure compensation with a point and shoot!

I got my ricoh r1 in august and went on a road trip to the new forest I was amazed by how close focus you can get with it and the fact that it’s small light weight and packs a punch is all you need in a point and shoot nice video and nice shots merry Xmas to you and Jason and wish u guys the best in the new year ☮️

If you like the Ricoh R1s, I couldn't recommend the Ricoh Mf-1 enough.. a bit more chunky but just as sexy.. even more so imo. But with chunkyness, comes some pretty nifty manual controls for a point and shoot. Happy holidays !!

@@BadFlashes maybe indeed.... I'm mighty tempted just to buy a GR, but the prices of them are going through the roof, and they suffer from the same LCD failure. Or I may just buy myself a Carl Zeiss Vario Sonar for my Minolta A7 instead as a Christmas present to myself.

I have been carrying my point and shoot more often and I think I need to invest in a higher end p and s. The R1 is very nice. Bet you can rubberband a pro mist on that baby as well! Right? right. I like how small it is..which is why I have been carrying a Nikon EM lately with a 45mm pancake lens. That jacket though, wow. I do love my wrist strap for my point and shoot. RIP Lizard King. The pano mode is something I actually liked on my canon underwater point and shoot I have. Though, the bettery drains overnight so I don't use it too often. That photo merge/double exposure mode is crazy, like whattt. Great vid sir. Until the next one, happy shooting!

@@BadFlashes I DID never heard of the R1 before everyone always focuses on the GR1 and that panoramic mode is actually quite awersome, I can see these raising in price now that you made a video on it though XD

I have a mint Konica Genba Kantoku 28WB on its way that didnt make it here for christmas.
Can't wait to test it out, its quite a bit chunkier but its a Tank and these cameras were designed to be waterproof (JIS protection grade 4-8), dust, sand proof and anti-shock impact resistant. Everyday adventure camera with a wide 28mm F3.5 lens that is sharp corner to corner.

If turning on is such a strong criteria for you, have you checked out the minolta afz? It has a few quirks from being one of the earlier AF point and shoots like a very unique loading mechanism, subpar but by no means terrible center-only autofocus (has af lock tho), and a flash you cant turn off (although its not nearly as flash happy as something like a mju, it will be wide open at a pretty slow shutter speed before it flashes) but it turns on as fast as you can slam open the lens barrier. No delay whatsoever. The lens doesnt do a self check dance or anything, its just on.

Oh now that's just weird.... this very morning I put a Peak Design strap toggle on my R1 (not s) and thought, 'hey, that works, why haven't I put one on there before?' (Answers own question: because it's a fiddle to get the cord through the tiny slot, but it can be done, using a thinner chord to pull it through.) I glued the pano curtains open. Cool vignette on the 24mm lens mode. I had a GR1. It was even more next level super awesome, but broke. I haven't stopped crying.

I have a R1s too and I used to carry it with me everyday.... sad that it broke last month all in a sudden. The shutter has no response at all....

I think Moriyama Daidō used Ricoh GR camera. In my opinion the sharpness is a bit soft on these but it worked very well for his style.. thats why i immediately thought you should have used BW film :) but i guess its not your style. Epic soundtrack by the way!

I tend to carry a Canon Prima Tele, because it's tough and has switchable lenses. I also have a Ricoh FF-3 AR Super - it's a bit fragile but has better image quality than the Canon overall.

Consider the Kodak S1100 XL, if the love for the Ricoh R1 dwindles. It's (a lot) bigger, and looks nothing like a great point and shoot, but it's a winner in my book for sure.
I have also fallen for the Rollei Prego 90, so what do I know, but still.

Well I think they are different cameras overall. The XA is suited for manual control and the R1s is just a point it and forget it kinda cam. So it depends on the situation… I would say the R1s

@@BadFlashes seems to still work after a couple frames! The long screw on the bottom left of the camera stripped out but nothing a little plastic weld and tape can’t fix.

8:18 "Ready when I am"? Yes, but actually kinda no. Most notable problem of this camera is it's shutter delay: Only after fully depressing the shutter button the lens moves in it's final position for focus and the shutter is released. Cool little thing but today totally overpriced..
