This however, is a problem I'm pretty positive is solvable and when I can get my hands on the equipment I need I'll fix mine, and try buying some others to fix as well. For now I've memorized the modes and pull out the PDF of the manual to refresh my terrible memory

    Thanks so much for this one! Back in the 1990's I had the most amazing point and shoot Nikon 28mm and was studying forests and would spend almost an entire Summer on the same roll of fillm... 88 times out of a hundred I'd spend a really long time setting up a shot only to decide to not click the button because the photo wasn't going to work. If you ever head out to the PNW and want to view my work and do photography I'd be happy to accommodate whatever you need on your travels!

    Hey Willem, this question might be alittle late. How did you deal with the lack of film counter, to know that your roll of film was done? I've been looking for a good compact p&s but just didnt want to drop $ on something that would inevitably spoil. the LCD dying on the R1 seemed like the least problematic but just wanted to know about the film roll situation. Cheers!

    The Ricoh R1 was the first film camera I really loved. It was ALWAYS in my left pocket and I was able to capture tons of unique moments. I loved the wide 28mm lens. The camera is almost great but it suffers from several small design flaws that hold it back from its true potential. The on/off button is a strange design choice since it is mushy and small. Over time, I learned how to grab the camera so that my thumb would be on the button and I could quickly turn it on and off. The viewfinder is also pretty tiny which is an issue with lots of smaller cameras, but since the lens is so wide I was able to hip fire most of my shots. The biggest issue with the camera is the screen on top that breaks every time. I became so comfortable with this camera that this was not an issue for me. I knew what buttons to press for each mode, I just wished that I could see how many shots had left in the roll. After one too many drops of my R1, I knocked loose the focusing mechanism and it was no longer able to focus. RIP. The Ricoh R1 is an awesome camera. One of its kind. There are no other point and shoots that are as small and pocketable with a solid lens. I have heard that the GR1 fixes some of these issues, but it's a shame that a perfect point and shoot does not exist.

    • @jozefilm
      @jozefilm 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@diepotata The R1 automatically winds the film back up once it’s done so you can hear the motor wind for 30 seconds when you’ve shot the entire roll.

Then I jammed a slither of credit card in the panoramic mechanical curtain & locked it on 30mm panoramic full frame . It's now a dedicated 30mm R1 . Sure you get a little vignetting & the flash struggles to keep up . But the images are . . . widerra .
