It's a good day
Thursday goodness!!!!
Goddamn it, man. Comedy, photography, and some chill af music involving a sitar is the trifecta of perfection. Nicely done, Caleb!
Thanks ☺️
Great review. I've owned two Mju ii cameras and I'm quite relieved to find that you had the same focus issues I did. The camera refused to focus on a person! I assumed it was me, but thanks to your honesty, I no longer feel like a complete failure.
Good. :) glad to help 😜
My mom owned one of these cameras when I was a kid in the 90's it was great camera it took sharp pictures and it lasted well over a decade, definitely brings back memories.
Oh that’s awesome. Great memory maker
I've always had a super tiny Minolta point & shoot on me for a few years now. The lens is crazy sharp and it never misses focus.
In addition to that I typically have a Fuji X-T2 with the 23f2 (gasp! digital!) slung over my shoulder. It's a relatively compact and powerful daily carry.
Well you have one film cam in there … I’ll accept lol
The best point and shoot ever made, in my opinion. And I've had quite a few!
I mean. It’s a solid little thing for the most part.
Hey! I've got the mju i and now you have a mju too! ( ii :)) I've heard lot's of people have trouble with focus, I don't get it unless the unit is faulty. I've owned two mju i's and I've never had a problem with focus. Those early '90's P&S's have a more primitive focus system, you really need to lock on focus on the subject with a shutter half press, get the solid green focus confirmation light before shooting with a full shutter press, that's it. Well, it works for me anyway. Thanks for the vid!
np thanks so much for enjoying it 🥰
I have the original Mju and the Mju Zoom. Love them both, but the original Mju is just such a joy to use. The Mju hardly ever misses focus and the Zoom misses a few more, but no more than any other compact I've used.
Maybe I should get the first one!
@@BadFlashes You know you want to....
Since you like the clamshell on the Stylus and you like oddball cameras, you definitely should look out for an Olympus Infinity Twin. This thing is a twin lens reflex point & shoot: there is a periscope mirror inside the film chamber that drops down to allow you to select between wide(ish) and telephoto modes. Two taking lenses on the front and weatherproof. While a bit big when compared to the Mju, it's a decent performer in my book.
Oh wow that sounds crazy!!! I like crazy 🥳
Funny enough I bought one of these Olumpus Styluses last year at a thrift store out in the middle of no where for a dollar, only for it to be one of my favorite point and shoots still to this day! There's like 4 or 5 different versions with all different specs, but nothing beats that clamshell style power switch on the front UGHH
Wow. I so love that for you!!!!! I’m into it :)
Ill go out for you Kaleb! I just picked up a voigtlander Bessa R after seeing your video on it thank you for the valuable information you gave on that! One day ill have an M6 as long as you dont buy them all
Hahaha I’ll try not tooo. Have fun!
5:50 press and hold self timer button first then press flash to toggle spot metering is a much easier way. just got this camera 5 min ago!
sick! that is awesome ... love the tip
If you ever get the chance to play with a Fuji Natura Black f1.9 don’t pass it up!!! Everything on it is in Japanese so im not sure if I ever use it correctly but the photos that come from it are amazing
Oh I so want to use one of those
@@BadFlashes I want to use all the cameras!!!
You really have a great story telling voice! 😊
Aw thanks a ton. That means a lot a lot :)
the only point and shoot i got is a nikon zoom touch 500, not as pocketable lol normally why i stick to slrs plus i can shoot weird film stocks like orwo dp-31 at iso 6 😂 side note if you or jason want any rolls of it i will be happy to send a few to each of ya
I always carry a Olympus stylus point and shoot, they never fail to get a quick great shot !
👊🏽🙌🏼
Oh hey, I got one of the earlier versions for $8 at a thrift store. One of my luckier finds.
I appreciate that it has a good fill flash, great for slide film. Do I wish it had manual controls? Obviously, but for what I got it for, I'm not complaining at all.
Anyways, back to draining my bank acount shooting slide film.
Hey! Eight dollars ain’t that bad!
@@BadFlashes not at all. More money to blow on slide film.
I bought a bunch of hard drives for a new nas today, and soon I'll buy a new GPU. After that though, I'm going to get the things I need to develop film at home, and that's when things will really get moving.
I got rid of my Mju2 because it gradually became unpredictable with light leaks. I bought it brand new about 6 years ago so it had no previous owners. I did love the quality of the photos, but for the outrageous prices they're going for now for a piece of plastic... you could buy a Nikon F2 and a good lens for basically the same price. something that will most likely last you 20+ years. Saying that, my go-to point and shoot is the Mju1. glass isn't quite as good BUT they're half the price and I havent had any light leak issues with it yet
Totally get that. Plus the Nikon F2’s are solid 🥰
Super solid! It’s apples and oranges in comparison I know. But dang if you can find a Mju 2 for $10 and you get 5 or 6 years of great shots out of it then that’s amazing… but I wouldn’t pay full price personally
Dumb fact I learned from my clothes historian sister - the little pocket on jeans is called a watch pocket but that's just the name of the type pocket design and placement. It was included as a space where you could keep coins, nuts, bolts, etc because they were work clothes. It's likely no one ever kept a pocket watch there until the modern era.
The every persons denim
Okay, so. A good point and shoot is key. I just found I think my best one yet so its staying around. Fuji Cardia Travel Mini !!
I want to try one of those
It looked many of the photos were over-exposed. I wonder if the aperture isn’t stopping down?
🤷🏼
Fun fact: I put my first roll of Natura 1600 through one of these. Still have 2 more in the freezer 6 years on.
Oh yeah!!! Nice. That’s awesome
Caleb, you have to do a review of the Olympus XA (please).
Already done :)
Check out past videos 🤪
It is older so don’t fully judge 👨⚖️
right on brother!!! SHOOT FAST! Ima go play pokemon now after hearing "mewtwo" the whole video
Hahaa fuck yeah Pokémon!!!!!!!
I've had a few of these over the years. (all have died) I love the camera, but wouldn't pay the average going rates for this reason.. $15 on the other hand.. lucky.
On all but one of mine, one of the problems was similar to your hit rate issue. I've taken one apart before and underneath the shutter button is a little piece of plastic to keep the 'half press focus' from going all the way down to keep it functional. It'll often break or wears out from age. The camera will still shoot, but you won't really have an ability to focus properly. If I had to guess, I'd think this might be your problem.
15$$ is the best price for a sure… I hope it really doesn’t have big issues 🥺
I'm not hinting at anything, but one of the questions should be "how soon this mju will break"
🤫 I didn’t hear nothing
Love the videos, you don't get enough love --but, to mention, I Subscribe and get updates but cannot ever recall getting your videos in my feed --just saying. But I get all the videos from your boy, again and again --even one's I've watched. Not sure why this is, but you are not the only one --perhaps TH-cam just has its favorites. Keep doing awesome things!
Awesome dude. Thanks so much. I’m glad you like the stuff :)
I got an Awumpus AF-2 and a Pen EE for quickshootin' duty.
That ain’t bad at all :)
@@BadFlashes Indeed! Plus I can put them in a 3rd party's hands and not explain how the thing works. :)
Mine missed focus so much that I had to trade it in. My nikon ti35 never misses focus.
God I want that
Is the Rico the same camera Robin Williams has in one hour photo? Lol looks familiar
I haven’t seen a movie forever ♾️ maybe
my new favorite youtuber and try to find Leica mini for 5 dollars :)
🥰🥰🥰🥰🚀
I’ll do what I can 😝
Life hack, I keep a lens cloth in that tiny jeans pocket that nobody uses so that I always have one on me
sick ... love that hack
You should try out a Contax T! No missing focus unless you miss it yourself since its an aperture priority rangefinder camera 😉 Also tinier than the mju!
I would love toooooooi
@@BadFlashes I’ve got a cheap user example if it interests you! Cosmetically not perfect, but lens/exposure and wind/rewind are perfect!
Contax T’s are just waiting for their day.
How are you guys focusing with this camera? I get so many out of focus shots compared to other point and shoots. Especially when i shoot people. Should i stop putting the crosshairs on the eyes and maybe aim for the shirt or a more contrasty spot?? Since it is 2.8 or slower i know if don't need to focus on face but i think it is habit. Any advice?
I wish I could give you advice I think that’s why I never was able to really get good results myself out of this camera. I think at the end the day you just need to take your time more and not so rapid shooting that’s what someone told me who owns one?
@@BadFlashes that seems to be the case, I agree. It stinks because when I take landscapes/cityscapes, etc the results are good, but what I want to use the camera for are quick moments with my kid and just everyday randomness. It’s so small it’s easy to just have with me everywhere, yet it kinda sucks in those situations. It’s great in the situations where I’d rather use a … not point and shoot camera lol
Hey Caleb, if you have to choose between the ricoh r1s and the olympus mju ii, which would you choose and why?
R1s all day all night !!!!!!!!
I owned one of these and had the same issue. Could never have a picture in focus
Bummer. But glad I’m not alone.
The only, and I mean ONLY thing I hate about the Mju ii is the tiny viewfinder optics. It's fumbly because of how you have to move around either your face or camera to get a clean full view of your framing.
Yeah that’s true. I’ve noticed that as well. I do have to say a lot of them are like that though unfortunately
Also great when you find a camera that tickles your fancy for cheap.
Omg …. RIGHT.
can you force this camera to larger apertures or 2.8? it seems to prefer more depth of field at default
Ummm I don’t think you can. And if so idk 🤷🏼
i find that i have the same issue with my olympus zoom 130. the focus is very hit or miss. that's why i prefer shooting with the pentax espio 150 SL. gem of a camera
Good to have an alternative for sure. I get cha
I remember my mjuii being pretty bad also at focusing on people.
Sad face 😞
But whoa boy they’re still so spenny, even if they’re “over”
Damn, I didn’t even look at the price
I’ve shot roughly 30 rolls through my mju 2 and have maybe 5-10 pictures in total with missed focus, but I have the Zoom 70, don’t know if there is a difference!
You just have to really pay attention to the halfpress and aim
Ok. Yep … slow down it is lol
The focus issue was a deal breaker for me and I sold mine. All 4 of them. The profit I made paid for a real mans camera. Nikon F4.....
That’s not bad. I’d probably do the same
I got the same focus issue on my Mju II. Super simple compositions with a single person in the frame and the camera decides to focus on the background, why?
Reliability aside, I'll still continue using it because its size is so ridiculous that I almost forget I have it on me.
I mean size it just gets here. He just knows the thing.
At least you didn't suffer the light leaks that the tele version suffers with.
Oh. Wow didn’t know that
Great video Caleb. This make me want to break out my mom's Nikon Zoom Touch 400...😁 Keep up the great work!
Do it! You won’t regret it
You need the remote control for selfies.
Truth
@@BadFlashes have an extra I can send to you. Just let me know.
What a steal !
Right!!!!!!!
If it only misses maybe 2 shots a roll would you still prefer the R1s over it?
Yeah… R1s 4 lyfe
EDIT: My comment was for non-fixed lens versions. Sorry.
I had one of these, but I got rid of it, reason: The light seals around the zoom elements will eventually erode away and at that point the camera is not repairable, really. You can still take great pics with it, however you will have a thin circle of light on your picture that intrudes in from the sides about 20% crop. Cool camera, but really hard to find one without that issue and prevent that from happening anyway.
So, for anyone curious about buying one, keep that in mind before you drop a couple hundred bucks on it. Ebayers and such don't test for this.
this is the 35mm fixed lens version and doesn't have that problem
@@garvinkelly Ah, sorry, I should have noted that.
Good thing to keep in mind
Have the mju - i, and produces stunning images.. even as the flash is not working..bad flash!! (pun intended) . Focusing issue is same, so can't take too fast snaps, specifially with low iso films.
Yeah damn. That’s just what it is. Sorry your flash is being so bad 🤪
@@BadFlashes although, my daily carry is the OG Olympus XA.
We dont have to worry abt the price jumping because its already insanely high 💀💀💀
Haha truth. Unfortunately
God I love thursdays
I’m glad
Uh oh, there's a deluxe model for sale at my thrift store.... I'm not telling yall where 😂
Thanks. Saved me.
Might be something wrong with your MJU II. I've had mine for about 8 years now and never had any real issues shooting people or other subjects. Also, it's a 90's cam 😀
True very true but honestly, it could just be me
I bought a Ricoh r1 cause of your previous video👍🏽👍🏽Best Buy to this day📸📸
Sick!!! Such a good one
Whats the song at 3:50 ?
Epidemic sound. It’s a subscription.
eBay prices still going strong. Not sure the hype died yet lol
Oh yeah that can happen
🥰❤️😀
🥰🥰🥰
This camera is actually from 1997
🤷🏼
Another great video!
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
that's a...that's a really strong girl... or a really light dude
Both! Lol
Hey I have one of these! Or rather, my wife Sarah has one. She just uploaded a video to my channel showing it off. Please ignore her when she says stuff about me kidnapping her and locking her in my film cooler. All lies!
Hahaha sure sure sure. 😝

So I'm 0:06 in to the video... If this is your new daily carry I'm unsubscribing. Now back the the video...
Haha well I hope you kept watching then.
as fast as me being the first comment bro
Almost!
First? Cool
Dope!!!!!
Way over hyped. Owned all three of the MJU versions and a stylus zoom. Slow between shots and the meter will underexpose shots. It’s a cool clickbait camera gets likes on Instagram and TH-cam
This is the type of video these guys put out when they have no idea of a constructive subject. Just clickbait feeding on YT trends.
Click click boom…. Am I right.
Please please please stop using coloured borders 🤷🏻♂️
Then how would I stand out??????? lol
I ditched my Mju II after 3 rolls for the same reason as you do: my unit just won't focus when it's in a bad mood, even it's a still shot with subject right in the middle of the frame. I guess I wouldn't say it's as epic as Mewtwo, but as unstable as Mewtwo.🥲
Hahaha nice one!
the spot meter mode also gives you single point af 🫵 so it’s more reliable. still a chore to turn on every time tho.
Right! Right! Right!
