We have like 4+ of them every year. A lot of big tournaments have them. A good bit of them are recorded too I believe. At least some shots are put on social media
I need people to understand just how fast 80+ is. I’m the furthest local thrower in my area (you don’t have to believe me but why would I lie) and I have pretty consistently ranged my full-power throws at about 535 on a regular run-up and 565 ish on my best 360 throws. My regular throw was gunned at 69 and my 360 at 73 mph. It blows my mind that anyone can even reach 80mph. you can’t even comprehend how fast that is till you see someone like Eagle throw IRL he makes me, who can walk onto 99% of courses and be easily the furthest thrower there, look like a noodle arm. Just wanted to put some of these speeds into a proper perspective.
I'm the exact same. My furthest recorded drive is 547 but I average about 530 on a normal run up. I've only ever gotten to 70ish. Its crazy how fast these people throw lol
I believe you. I’ve seen Garret, AB, Ricky, and Drew throw in person. It was exciting to see but also humiliating because I will never be able to do that.
I'd bet a lot of money that 10 years from now, the top 200 will have added 50m to their distance. Discs will get better, but there's HUGE untapped potential at the elite level with strength training. They're all twigs, with a few exceptions. But even those that aren't twigs, aren't very big at all. Add strength training, and something like Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Kenpo, or something else I'm not even aware of that exists, to train explosiveness, and you'll add 50m easy. I've spectated live events, and basically no one looks roided out, too. Once the money starts rolling in a sufficient amount, there's no reason not to join every other sport, and add PEDs to mix. I'm not making an ethical claim, just an observation across all other sports with money and attention, and declaring the inevitable.
Great video mankeep up the good work! You should do a forehand crush compilation one day that was sick watching Eagle and Ryan Sheldon breaking the game like that.
@@ilovemababy92 yeah and it's not saying they didn't have the power it's that discs have gotten much better and throwing styles have been allowed to adapt accordingly.
Went to a fair recently and they had a radar gun game with baseballs. I wanted to see roughly how fast I could throw as I forehand a stilletto on a flex about 350'-370' so its a similar motion. Got 69,69 and 74. Sheldon stepping up and hittin an 80 nonchalantly is insane let alone hes going for accuracy and isn't even putting max distance on it.
Eagle with a 86, wow. Current day for me he has recently acquired a injury. I don’t know the details, I hope he recovers quickly and is back to 100. He’s changing this game. The next group of guys have some crazy legacies to follow.
I have new motivation to workout this winter, and get my max speed and distance going... Ryan Sheldons forearms are crazy, makes me wish we'd see Nolan Ryan in his prime crush a 100mph disc. And rollers should be their own thing, the way most top players throw them is just adding so much power on their throws compared to straight up backhand.
until disc golf pays better than baseball or football, Ryan Sheldon's 82mph sidearm is about as fast as we're going to see in pro disc golf coverage. not even sure if I want to have to play against guys that can throw any harder, as much fun as it is to watch them.
@@jaysantos11 fair enough. ive played baseball with plenty of non pros that can throw 90+, but no one offered them any real money to play. Sheldon says he topped out at 94 with a baseball and he has his reasons for playing disc golf instead. Any faster than than 94 and someone is going to give you a million dollars just to join their farm club to see if they can turn you into a major league pitcher. not many guys are going to pass that up. we'll see those guys in disc golf a few years down the line maybe when they've lost some velocity. at least that's my take on it. side note, sheldon throws overhand shots from time to time, right? I wonder how fast some of those shots can top out?
@@jwoellhof The pay for being a minor league baseball player is actually probably worse than being a touring non-top-tier disc golfer. The carrot is MUCH bigger though if you make it to the show.

MLB has all star break and HR derby NHL has same but skills show NBA same but slam dunk Disc golf needs something like longest drive comp or fastest throw
Backhand releases give higher spinrate. The faster a disc spins, the more stable it is-- stable as in less likely to have high speed turn or low speed fade. I have seen Ryan Sheldon unofficially get 620 feet on his forehand on youtube before though. For those max distance type shots, release height and angle play a huge role.
Yea but that was into a net literally just throwing as hard as he could without caring about the flight of the disc. He'd never throw that hard on a course, not to mention I don't think we'll see "power" Simon anymore now that his elbow is not what it use to be. Unfortunate
I think GG gets his distance from being able to put more RPMs on the disc than everyone else through his unique form and perfect timing, hence the disc staying in the air longer. I dont recall seeing him in the UPPER upper echelon in terms of disc speed.
He doesn't throw this fast. Wouldn't be surprised if he could, but doesn't because it isn't as efficient for him. His big 700 foot drives are 73-75 MPH. He is getting his disc out there by putting spin on it, no torque. IMO its more impressive and pure than ripping over on a disc and getting a few more MPH.

angle control, glide, wind speed, elevation, etc. That's why exit velocity is such a nice stat to have. It's more objective than distance
