  • This video is for folks who just got a Korg Volca Keys and have no hands on experience with it, no music theory, no keyboard knowledge etc. People who just took the plunge and jumped in. Welcome! This video will show you how to get a basic synth sound, record a couple parts on the sequencer, creating motion sequences, and using active step, flux, poly/unison modes, etc to create variations on the theme you write. There's not a lot of technical detail on what precisely is happening, it's more of a "how to get creating super duper fast." The idea is that, a solid jumping off point will get you engaged with the synth and interested in exploring the many, many directions you can go with this little wonder. If you find this video helpful, tell me about it!

    Im trynna get into synth music as of recently, and this is the only video that makes sense to me for volca keys, you gave a base explanation of things, and then futzed around. You gave me a hands on experience without getting my hands on it. Thank you SO much!!

    Great video, My 10 year old has been asking for synths so just got a couple of Volca's for his birthday and this is the perfect way to show him how this is different from piano (he has 2 years of piano playing but little to no theory) and how he can jump in and have fun with sounds.

    Excellent tutorial. Even with a little experience with synths or even other Volca’s, this vid just gives you a kick start when you might otherwise be glazing over with theory. Thanks.

      Thanks! To delete everything in your current slot hold function and press the button that says “all” directly above “clear” all the was right on the keypad. If you don’t save it what ever was there can still be recalled.

    Hi how could I connect the volca to a midi controller? Would I need a controller with midi out though? I have an Arturia MINILAB MKII

    • @mullydoesmusic-ishstuff5506
      @mullydoesmusic-ishstuff5506  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you need midi out on the controller. You’d plug it into the midi DIN on the Volca and make sure you set the Volca to listen on the channel you send on with the controller.

      @@mullydoesmusic-ishstuff5506 Thanks Man!! if the controller have an entrance 3.5 mm as midi out, with the cable that have midi in 5 pin and the 3.5 mm on the other side will work?

    • @mullydoesmusic-ishstuff5506

      Nope! I start off pretty easy with “just play the white keys and that’ll be in C.” Honestly I can’t play piano. 👍🏻😎👽

      @@mullydoesmusic-ishstuff5506 thats exactly what i had to do with the KORG Electribe. I was pushing buttons and turning knobs like an ape. I assume the piano skills can be minimal in order to play this. The black keys suggest that i can make chords and stuff. Piano stuff.

    You dont explain the keys e.g. "flux" :(
    But some information is very good. Thanks.

    • @mullydoesmusic-ishstuff5506
      @mullydoesmusic-ishstuff5506  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      According to the manual: "[Flux] When turned on (button lit), the sequence will be continuously recorded and played back,
      regardless of the step. When turned off, the performance will be recorded, quantized at the beginning of the step" Which is mostly true except "continuously" is slightly misleading because it's digital so flux being on really breaks each step into to 16 parts and quantizes the key press to a "sub-step" if you want to call it that. But all that seemed kind of beyond the scope of this video.
