That is a common one used for a lot of things but the reality is you don't need to look up unless the thing is effectively right above you as you see a ton of the sky in your peripheral. I think the key thing that Cecil misses, is that it's the ability to have genuine connections with humans that kept Mark from turning out like his dad. Even knowing he's going to outlive them all by millennia, Mark loves the humans in his life, and THAT keeps him tied to the fate of humanity.
It's very similar to Aang in ATLA - absolute power is a corrupting influence, and while Aang has his past lives to inform him and balance him, it's his connection to "normal" people that keeps him from seeing himself as above them.
Cecil should WANT Mark to have human connections, but after the life HE has led, I'm not sure he can see things that way anymore.

    • @nickwittednonpareil
      @nickwittednonpareil 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

I think Cecil is actually very much aware of that. In the first episode he briefly talked to Mark about going to college with Amber, and he's been trying (not always successfully) to make sure Debbie is taken care of. I think Cecil's concern after the Atlantis incident and now Invincible leaving for Thraxa is that Mark's empathy extends BEYOND humans - and that makes him distracted and vulnerable to influence. I think Cecil is worried about Mark's heart growing too big.

    • @fredwin
      @fredwin 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Yeah, Cecil isn't really missing anything. It's just that the singular thing he cares about is keeping Earth safe. That means his humanity only extends to the point where those two things intersect. He will do anything in his power to protect Earth from threats, anything. Including using Mark or in the worst case scenario having to eliminate him (or at least attempt to).

No, what's kept Mark from turning out like his dad is his age. Yes, DNA-wise, Mark might be 90% Viltrumite, but his mind is still 100% human. He thinks in human terms. He might know that he's going to outlive his friends, but he doesn't understand it. He can't - not until it starts happening. It's not until then that his human connections will become the thing that keeps him from treating people like ants.

The thing with Kate is that it's one mind perceiving the world through many bodies with many brains. If she creates nine duplicates, and therefore has ten of herself running around for a year, she's experienced the same year from ten different viewpoints. Chronologically, she's therefore aged one year. EXPERIENTIALLY she's experienced ten years worth of different perspectives. She might be biologically a teenager, but experientially have centuries under her belt due to parallel living, depending on how many bodies she's splintered off.

It may seem like she's redeeming herself, and she is so far, but i think it's mostly because of the criticism of how they handled her in the previous season, and going back to how the comics handled it. For the sake of the show's continuity, I'll say that the fight between Invincible and Omniman gave her a wakeup call on how dangerous what he does really is as she saw the brutality of that fight as it was happening right after she broke up with him.

In the 1970s, Science Fiction author Larry Niven wrote a humorous essay called "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" in which he discussed - sometimes in gruesome detail - some of the issues that might result from Superman having sex with a human woman. The conversation Amber and Mark have definitely seems to be a nod to that.

I think one thing that this question misses, is that evolution generally doesn't make all things stronger. There's no reason at all for semen to move at dangerous speeds, or for the muscles propelling it to be super-strong. The distance they have to travel, as far as we know, is no different for superhumans/viltrumites. VOLUME might be different (and corresponding organs larger or smaller, like in apes), but there's no reason for velocities that would harm a human, given the bizarre fact of reproductive compatibility. I get that the Superman trope is centered around "what if human but stronger in every way", but given that Viltrumites can punch through each other, it's clear that having weapon-strength ejaculation would probably be detrimental to THEM as well.
The "will you get carried away and crush me" thing makes sense, though

@@abedrayton6398 _"There's no reason at all for semen to move at dangerous speeds, or for the muscles propelling it to be super-strong."_
I mean, _ducks_ exist... male ducks and female ducks are trapped in a genital weapon race, with penises corkscrewing and growing longer to ensure conception, and vaginas corkscrewing _in the opposite direction_ and becoming labyrinthine and full of dead ends to give females a chance to choose which male will actually succeed... also cats, with spikes in their penises literally intended to cause pain (it apparently causes female cats to ovulate), and several species of beetles with literally _weaponised_ genitalia, intended to make it _physically impossible_ for the female to breed with other males, or to _pierce_ through the female abdomen into her reproductive organs...
That is to say, Viltrumites being Viltrumites, them having evolved weaponised genitals to pierce through the opposite gender's defences was not out of the question. Of course, Debbie having survived Nolan physically unscathed shows that that isn't the case, but still, it _is_ a fair question, and something to be worried about, before mating with an alien.

Debbie calling out Nolan for his lies for the 20 years of partnership, people support her wholeheartedly. When Amber calls out Mark for lying in their months long relationship, and people think she's an awful person. So clearly its either lying early in a relationship for months is okay compared to 20 years, or what is being lied about? Clearly not all lies are equal.
Eve warned Mark about getting into a relationship with Amber only if he was serious. That obviously meant honesty was part of the deal. In a world of superheroes, of course she would figure it out and he clearly did not respect her. Mark was treating her like, something he wasn't serious about even though he might have loved her, like, something small, and not important, like...what's a word the fits....Nolan said it once.
Or maybe Eve also just doesn't know what she's talking about and we forget she said that? How about William straight up calling Mark a shit boyfriend to his face? Do we hate William now or does the gay shield protect him?
The hate Amber gets is the same exact thing I saw when Sansa was hated on Game of Thrones, like Skylar White on Breaking Bad. Haters love the protagonist so much there's no way they can be wrong ever.
I've rewatched Invincible multiple times. I noticed Amber's caution with dishonesty, inconsistent behavior. She's careful and sometimes snarky with people that seem to have things to hide when shes still reading people. But you know what she loves and what makes her light up? Honesty. The scene in the University before the corpse bot attack where Mark straight up tells Amber he wants to be with her in that school, that's what she loves because Mark and sure and honest about his feelings and wanted Amber in his future with him. Mark continuing to lie about an important part of his life to his girlfriend of several months especially after an attack? Doesn't that seem selfish or Mark?
Not enough people care to try empathy on characters unless they have enough screen time I guess, I just don't know anymore. But hey, if it's easier to hate rather than to get it, whatever helps yall with self inserting into this power fantasy.

Your comment around 17:10 makes me think of Critical Roles 2nd campaign and this quote from Cadaceus(played by Talieson Jaffe who played Percy in C1)
"I think it has been a long time since anyone has pointed out to you that you are a fool. Pain doesn't make people; it's love that makes people. The pain is inconsequential; it's love that saves them. And you would know that, but you have none around you. You said so yourself, you surround yourself with lies and deceptions. And I wish for you in the future to find someone who will mourn you when you are gone. Respectfully."
One of the best quotes to come from Tal, probably only beaten by "life needs things to live"

Like he was gonna take over earth after they died of natural causes, since it would just be a blink in time for Nolan. And he's probably gonna say that alien planet is an example of what earth could be, if they take over idk just a guess

I am actually not sure what I think about Allens "death". Part of me with Thadeus saying "Forgive me Allen" alongside the way he did believe in the "weakness". I wonder if Thadeus either faked Allens death to send him to Earth to protect Invincible or something. OR did it to prevent Viltrumites being able to harass him for the knowledge of Mark, I kinda feel Thadeus isn't the mole even if he seems like the chief subject, but potentially the Cecil of the Coalition. But we'll see.

Dupli-Kate seems to get a pass from some regarding her betrayal to Eve. I don't think Kate deserves that pass. Kate did intercept Eve with intent to hide her shower fling with Rex. She knew she was betraying Eve, just as Rex did. Her explanation of relating to The Immortal does hold ground but she still came off pretty insensitive to Rex.
Discussing Amber's concern with Mark - Nolan was able to procreate with Debbie and not kill her - indicating some level of restraint control.
SIDENOTE TRIVIA: To answer the "Superman question" : Superman stories tend to give him restraint control over his ... um ... entire body's muscle response. This explains why he doesn't destroy the Earth with a sneeze, cough, fart, or bathroom break. This version of Superman once accidentally inhaled some magic dust and could feel an uncontrollable sneeze about to happen. He raced into an area of space with no nearby life. His sneeze went in the direction of a dead solar system and destroyed it.

Shapesmith, like "shapeshift" but with "smith" instead of "shift". Btw, we also saw King Lizard as Prince Lizard in the Atom Eve episode.
I don't get the age gap thing. Is Abe supposed to stay single until he finds another thousands of years old partner? Shouldn't you be just as outraged about Debbie and Nolan then, since he's also hundreds if not thousands of years old already? Based on Kate's comment in the first season, they're all the real Kate, so I would think they all share the same consciousness.
12:03 "Want some? I got plenty."
14:05 Also very much The Boys territory.
16:35 You did already? Nolan literally told Mark about it in the last episode of season 1.
    17:54 Tentacles > Noses
23:14 He was stuck in a tank.
    24:24 Scar ripping noises intensify...
I was sus about Allen's girlfriend in the beginning though. I thought she was in his apartment to maybe find more information about Nolan and Mark and then just used their relationship as a cover up. But after seeing her cry for him I guess she might now take up his mission for him instead if he's truly dead (I don't trust it when they cut away from such scenes). What I don't get is why he would task Allen to find an alleged mole if he was the mole himself, just to have him then killed shortly after as well? He could've just kept his mouth shut, but now Allen's girlfriend knows and will probably try to figure that one out by herself.

The narrator is Paul F. Tompkins, a very talented improv comedian who you've definitely heard/seen before (he's kind of one those "that guys!"). Also, I might be remembering this wrong, but Kevin Smith, I think, had an idea for a Superman story in which Lois gets pregnant and then dies when the baby kicks because it has super-strength. I don't think it ever got produced, but that would probably be the bigger concern than super-sperm!

Unfortunately, it's one of those things that is done to drive viewer engagement. It's why no streaming service drops all their episodes at once anymore. They realized that when people see what they want, they stop watching or unsubscribe, so they slow the well of content down to keep you engaged longer. If they don't release the last 4 episodes until spring, then people will hang on the 4 episodes they get for months.

I don't think age really matters much when your immortal. EVERYONE is wayyyy younger than you. It would be pretty lonely if you tried to find someone closer to your age. Plus the fact that they would be gone in the blink of an eye in your view, you'd probably want them pretty young to spend as much time with them as you can.

I have read the comic series over and over throughout the years and rarely does something from the show surprise me (except the train scene that wasn't in the comic) but seeing stuff in the show still gets me stoked. When Seance Dog( Science Dog in comics) showed up at the door my thoughts were "OH SH!T!!! Here we go!" It was surprising how quick it got to this point in the show. They seem to have accelerated the plot for the series. I dont think Mark was still even with Amber by this point in the comic. I wish they would accelerate that plot point quicker. Even though they changed her crappy attitude this season I still dont like her.

Emergency Awesome on his channel reviewed this episode and said Allen's healing power works the best when his vitals are at its lowest (or something like that). Basically, Thadeus knows that and is actually allowing him to heal quicker. I don't get then why would he say "Forgive me, Allen" at the end, or it's just a complete feint for the audience.
