- It's finally...FINALLY here...after MONTHS of work...and nine hours AFTER I wanted to get this video out...it's here.
I felt really disappointed that I didn't get this out on New Years Eve...not for a lack of trying, mind you...but then I saw a comment on the post saying that this would be late...and it read 'It's never too late for a good video.'
To the person who commented that...to the people who've been waiting patiently for this...and to everyone who helped make this happen...this goes out to all of you. Thank you.

* not sure how i feel about the part where you show videos of mine from when i was eight/ten years old without my permission!
* in fact, i believe many of the people featured here feel the same way about their work being entered into this "competition. "
* this is extremely offputting as a content creator; we make these videos for fun and claiming that one of us did better than all the others is not exactly a boost to morale.
* it's the thomas fandom, we don't WANT an oscars where one person gets an award and everyone else gets a half-compliment. it takes the fun out of what we do.
* and, for the record, yes, my sound design isn't perfect, i am acutely aware.
* i would have preferred if such critique wasn't given through a rip-off oscars for people to see.
* i do not care that i've "lost" here, what i do care about is how this makes us as content creators feel about what we do as a hobby and how this feels very unprofessional.
* i am not at comfortable with my work being presented in a competition i never entered without my permission, and i really would have preferred it if videos of me as a young child weren't used here regardless of context.
* you said you weren't going to look at twitter and were going to let it "run its course. "

Interesting that you removed the fact you (like everyone on that site) was upset that Victor one a award, probably because it'll be used against your argument for not caring you didn't win.

Also your acting like he's shitting on the other creators, half compliments are still compliments at the end of the day. You taking it poorly is only really on you, because everyone else seems ok from it except for you. It isn't like he's asking his creators to harass others (unlike you and your little Victor comments.)

@@leatherbootlace8094 I, personally don’t think anyone is coping. I just think it got shocked, then angry after seeing some of their content from their younger selves be disblayed to the fandom instead of something more recent. And also the content was displayed without consent
This was very good to watch. And honestly seeing myself even as just a mention put the biggest grin on my face for the last few hours.
All the creators big/small all were respectfully mentioned and described even a little.

Okay I'm going to try and be civil with this
Your main flaw here is that you went too hard, and you've contradicted yourself multiple times
You said you couldn't get permission and inform everybody in the video, and yet you were able to inform most if not all of the winners that they won you could have at least gotten permission from everyone else whilst you were at it
Some people didn't want to be in this video and that's fair especially considering you didn't even talk about them and just use their clips for bad examples or good examples
It's clear that you were biased in this as well, I get that unlucky tug was winning everything but then you probably should have just taken him out of the polls, tanzig shouldn't have won and that seems to be something a majority of the fanbase agrees on, especially considering what you stated about it versus The Railway Series, be real with me here if this wasn't a trainz series would you have picked it? Would this series still hold up if it was in Wooden Railway?
The majority of the winners were trainz users or makes model trains, you kind of ditched to everyone else
I believe you can improve, everyone can this. This video was a misstep and now everybody's shown how they don't like being included in videos without being told especially in something like this or you're trying to say what is the best of ___ thing.
I get that in the beginning you did state that this was going to be biased but it shouldn't be biased to this degree when you're trying to be objective

What going do
I think if your going to do this again. You can make votes for the nominations for the fandom, as well your own opinion. Because this definitely feels like only the latter.
So, about that. I actually DID originally intend to do a community poll...but as you might expect, The Unlucky Tug, TrainBoy, ect. ended up being nominated for every category, so I had to change my plans. Hence, why I limited each creator to one award.
Is it possible that I could've made the vote work? Sure. But at the time, I thought I could only to one of the other. I hope you understand.

I understand the whole point for this 'award show', it was a sweet idea but this is chaos. You didn't ask any permission for any of the videos in this, not to mention bluntly comparing people's content. if you ever decide to do this again, I'd ask permission and approach this with a gentler mindset with ackwowledgment that an indiviual being has made every single of these 'submissions'. (and do your research)
I genuniely don't have a clue why Victor Tanzig won best series. like there are other creators that deserve this award than Victor. cough cough *tardisrescue* cough cough. how are you going to critisce Dan for 'fancy' angles when you're dickriding Victor for using god awful story telling and disgusting cinematography. a lot of personal bias comes into this as well
not everything was used in the Railway Series and not everything needs to be used for it be good. It leaves more imagation/interpation to the viewer and it works well. If you wanted to ever know more, it was there if you did. it doesn't make the book
"the less is more argueement" doesn't really work here. it's just ugly to look at and not effective to his story telling. a 2012 Jeremy Crispo video looks better (and I wish I was joking). of course you don't have to make everything look it's abosutle best but there's a certain level of proffesnialism to it.

This comment describes this perfectly imo. His whole Victor Tanzig thing reminds me of the whole theory of how the Academy Awards prefer Disney and or Pixar movies over everything else in the Best Animated Feature category

I'm frankly irritated and disgusted about the lack of appreciation for the art that many of the people you included in this video, especially without their consent.
Many of my friends' art, whether it was drawn art, composed music, or TH-cam films, is all art, but the way you go about here feels like you're treating them like products or toys to use on your own whim. Every person you listed here created some kind of art, which they more often than not spent hours of hard work, physically and mentally, to create. Not getting their full consent to use here is something artists struggle enough with as is in the real professional world with all the eNeFfTee and A-Eye theft, and not even getting it for something like this is inexcusable and scummy.
You wanted to make this video to try and bring fans together to celebrate, I get that, but the methods you went about doing so undermine just that. I don't think trying to make an awards show where you frequently and bluntly compare one artist's work to another's is bringing them all together. It does anything BUT uplift them.
I get there's a lot of creators to ask for full consent, too, but patience IS a virtue, and in the real world you need it to get anything done right. If they say they don't want to be in something, respect their art and wishes and don't use their work. Do NOT just throw them in anyways and then wonder toy yourself why they're not happy and why they question you why they weren't consulted first. You said you spent a lot of time making this video. I don't think you'd be pleased if someone took your own video just because and then claimed 'it's for review purposes' for their own gain.
The fans who made all these things are not big corporate companies. They are independent artists who take so much time, money and energy out of their own lives to make what they make.
You're absolutely right. I'm currently working on making things right to the best of my ability to fix this, including removing the artist section (to the best of my ability with the buttered fish that is the youtube editor), save for the winner.

I'm positive you didn't MEAN for any of this to come off as offensive, and I'm glad you're acknowledging people's feelings instead of just calling them butthurt. I really hope you take another crack at this next year.
I have a lot to say on this, and part of it has to do with the fact that you did NOT receive my permission to use my content in your videos.
Firstly, in terms of my content, I am okay with people using my content so long as they have my direct permission. I understand it can be hard to contact me, but all it takes is a Twitter ping and DM to contact me. I'll respond eventually, but I am very busy. I appreciate being considered for best fan series, and I'm not against being judged again next year so long as the feedback isn't too harsh or biased. (Also my visuals are not good, I used Lego duplo for gods sakes)
I think the idea of a Thomas Fandom Oscars has the potential to be a lot of fun. The issues that exist, however, cannot be ignored.
1. You did not receive permission from ANY of these users, and in a project like this, their approval is absolutely necessary.
2. Many people in this fandom don't like the idea of having their content compared to other users and competing with other users for awards and things like that. Many people use this platform as an escape, a hobby, or a way of expressing themselves without being judged by others. This video takes away from that.
I will say, the editing in this video is phenomenal, and I like the approach, but you failed to receive the support of the content creators you featured and so the video is backfiring and blowing up in your face. I have two alternatives you could pursue in the future.
1. Do this again next year, but ONLY if you receive permission from the content creator. This means permission to use footage/audio and permission to judge, critique, score and rank their videos.
2. Do a 2023 summary video summarizing a lot of the highlights from the fandom and their creativity. Highlight different types of videos (reviews, short stories, series, adaptations, music, editing, artwork, documentaries, etc). Once again, obtain permission from the users FIRST. If you don't get their permission or don't hear from them, don't use their stuff. It's that simple.
I also think the way you went about judging these videos was kinda...not it. It's clear you have some personal biases or are not aware of some of the content some of these users post. I think, if you are able to do this next year, you should have a group of judges and a voting option so that other people have a say in what happens. But again, this is only possible with people's permission, so I'm not sure if that's even an option at this point.
Again, I like the idea, but the execution (besides the solid editing) was very poor. I know you did not intend harm, but competitions and comparisons aren't really a staple of this fandom unless people want to.

@bonbon_puppet117 having content judged is a part of TH-cam’s platform, yes, but there are people who don’t want their stuff judged because they didn’t make it to be judged. They made it because they wanted to put their stuff out there and make things they enjoy making. Videos like this go against what fan creators want. This user goes over other people’s content without their permission and judges and ranks the content in ways that many people are uncomfortable with. So no, this isn’t a “me” problem. The fact that many people dislike the way this video was made and have legitimate arguments and complaints about it shows that this video was executed poorly and should’ve been made differently, if at all. This isn’t people being “soft”, this is people establishing what they are and aren’t okay with in regards to their content

I feel like people have either forgotten or never watched Ramahfool back in the late 2000s and early 2010s, he was my favorite Thomas youtuber when I was a little kid, I feel like he should've been recommended in the "Legacy Honorable Mentions" category.
Either way, I just wanted to say this was an amazing video, and I enjoyed all 90 minutes of it. I really hope there's one for 2023 !!

I love how TrainBoy wins an award in this, and then posts on his twitter that he didn't watch it, then goes on a whole tangent about how everyone who's offended by this has a right to be upset.
Seriously though, this is such a mess. The disrespect to so many creators here is just... wow. If you do this again, there needs to be so much more research and ASKING PERMISSION done next time.
People are not upset because "oh why didn't you pick this one" it's because you used so much content that was not yours and didn't ask permission. They're also upset because the way you critique content is so harmful. You can't just say something's good and then rudely point out how bad or flawed everything else is.
Even some of the biggest creators that are featured in this (EpicLafiteu, Joey Turner, BlueSnowplow, etc) are all upset with you.
My advice, don't do this again.

Even people on discord are shaming him. The golden rules always ask permission, and always watch the content before you make a decision.

This is one of the most interesting things I've ever seen. I do remember filling out an entry for this for other users but I didn't think think I could have almost been nominated for a steamy award. And the fact that I was put in the same Runnings with Thomas1Edward2Henry3 and EnterprisingEngine93 absolutely made my jaw drop when I saw myself 1:21:34. While it is a shame that I didn't win, Matt definitely deserved that award more than I did and so I applaud him for that. And yeah I may not be as known as I've only been around for 5 years. Pierce it was still an honor to be featured in this. And I hope to make more videos and customs for a long time. Again Stellar video dude and a great way to kick off this year.

As soon as I had seen this video, I knew I had to watch it. I've been watching it for a bit now. Gotta say I'm most pleased with it. I've heard and learned of so many different creators that I never even knew tons of content I had forgotten about. I love this community very much so. I look forward to next years steamy awards .

I have to admit, seeing DemonOfNowhere and my boy Sheffield have their content use in the background (with the former almost winning an award no less) made me happy beyond belief (I'm surprised I haven't spontaneously combusted LOL)
All in all, amazing video, and can't wait to see what comes next, and if there is a Steamies award vid for 2023. Until we meet again!

I’m grew up every one of Thomas TH-camrs back in the good old 2000s when I was so young, they’re all masterpieces, hilarious and amazed
This was done so poorly. I can tell some kind of effort was put in, but clearly not enough. You didn’t ask anyone for permission when putting these videos in, and having a HEAVY amount of personal bias is the exact opposite of what you need in an award type thing like this. This community doesn’t need this, we make content to just make it, and share it with the rest of the community. Comparing it like this is just awful. I generally felt bad for some creators in this video for how much you ripped their videos apart, and then started talking about creators like Victor Tanzig, who you didn’t mention any flaws with his videos. Plus, what is it with your constant thing with mic quality? Not everyone can afford the mic you have that is apparently perfect. You went way too hard on some of the creators here, an example being Scrapyard Studios. The worst bit is, most of the creators here didn’t know their videos would be in this, with quite the amount of evidence backing this up, including the fact that quite a few people here are surprised their vids had made it in, (don’t believe me? Read through the comments on this vid). We don’t need this, the community doesn’t need this. This is the type of stuff that will bring the community down instead of encouraging it to be the best it can be. If I were you, I’d take this down so you don’t end up with a bad name, although it looks like it’s too late for that. All I’m gonna say is,

@@paisleepunk His series relies on cheap shock value, dull dialogue, and the same four camera angles used infinitely. It had a good start, but Stories of War was a mistake, and the whole series just went downhill from there.
I was also particularly frustrated with PDP praising Lamp so much, when it’s one of Victor’s most tasteless episodes. The way that he handles the trauma is… iffy, at best.
A couple of my friend’s works were entered into this video without their knowledge or consent.
It is incredibly disrespectful to not only use their work without permission, but to claim that other works are objectively better.
In future, please consult the people who’s work you are using. And do not use said work unless given express permission

this was a good idea on paper but really rough in execution. Its nice seeing people happy for appearing or winning but I understand the others who are mad they were included without being informed. I hope the criticisms given are listened to the idea of going over and talking about the best videos/creators is great but the award show style format was not the best way to do it. Maybe a retrospective or top 10 would be better then treating it as the Oscars.

Nothing but absolute nostalgia, I saw So many recognisable faces while also being introduced some new ones, I’ve been in this fandom for 15 years and I’m still discovering pure artistry to this day, I hope we can see something like this again next year, happy New Year everybody! As much as I really like this concept, a lot. I am a bit mixed about the idea of only one person choosing when these sorts of awards is voted for. But TBF, it is a healthy way to shine light on smaller creators since there is a 95% chance that bigger creators would just dominate the entire event. IDK, maybe split it next time between big creators division and smal creators division.

also, the fact that you praise Tanzig's cinematography while dissing TardisRescue for using so-called "fancy angles" shows a complete lack of awareness of the subject matter. TardisRescue is using perfectly normal and varied shot composition, while Victor just uses the same three or four angles over and over again. There's nothing good about Tanzig's cinematography. It's either repetitive, messy, or both.
Finally, nitpicking the Thomas Cynic like that pissed me off for two major reasons. 1. Your bias was massive, and the entire analysis of Thomas' Moral Compass (which isn't even CLOSE to his best video) felt like a backhanded compliment. 2. That dude was my best friend in the fandom for years before he left, you think I'm going to let that shit slide?
So, yeah. Claiming that you tried to be fair is a load of bullshit, and you know it. Just apologize, take the video down, and try to start fresh.

While I do confess that not bothering to ask people for permission is dickish, I have to at least give him kudos for giving credit to each clip he used. That's more than I can say for most people on the internet. As for if the criticism of each is valid or not depends on the person who is being critiqued feels about it.

I think the words “in my opinion” sum up why this video failed. This feels like YOUR awards ceremony, not OUR awards ceremony.
You say that you stopped community polling because The Unlucky Tug won too many but, you’re still the creator of the video/event. So, you get to choose the nominees. Why didn’t you just add The Unlucky Tug in one or two of the categories and then used the extra space for smaller creators that deserved the promotion?
You're absolutely right. I should've come up with a better way of doing this. This was my first time making an awards show like this, and I just thought I'd write it the way I write an episode of Who Did It Better.
This was really just meant to be a fun celebration of content, and I hadn't thought that it would have the affects that it did. I'm not sure what more I can say other than I apologize, and I'll try harder in the future.

The use of such small content creators passion projects, especially in a way that pits them against other creators and results in an intense criticism for said projects is still disrespectful. Rather than just arguing that oh 'its technically fair if they're credited' why don't we listen to the creators who's work has been featured, and torn apart by this? Demonofnowhere for example is incredibly disappointed with the way their content was attacked in order to prop up another video. This isn't what the community is about.

Regardless of how YOU feel this has gone down shouldn't we listen to the hard working creators who have spilt so much time into their work and how they feel their work has been judged, nitpicking things such as the wrong font, or 'funky camera angles' which are realistically basic, realistic camera angles to film models with. It would be fair if there was an even, or just reasonable amount of positives to balance out the negatives, which is clearly not the case.

The whole video was really unneeded. From the lack of research, the disrespect to a lot of the creators, very biased selections that take only YOUR opinions on account, to the not asking for permission to use the other creators content.
This is a mess. Dare I even call it hot garbage. Please never do something like this ever again.
Also I'm extremely dissapointed that Sodor: The Modern Years wasn't even mentioned in the Best Series catagory. WildNorWester has put his heart and soul into that series over the past 11 years.
Amen to that, this never needed to happen. All PDP needed to do was make a video highlighting his favorite things that the fandom did this year, and all of this never would have happened. He dug his own grave, now he needs to lie in it. I wish I could apologize to the creators personally.
This was just beautiful, the awards, the creators being honored, and the whole description of what the Thomas Fandom has become and accomplished over the years. I may not have many people in my personal life who appreciate this like I do, but I’m glad to have found a place online where I can continuously watch the adventures of a silly little blue tank engine, with six small wheels, a short stumpy funnel, a short stumpy boiler, and of course a short stumpy dome. 🙂
I would like to informally apologise on the behalf of Play Don’t Pause for the many disservices this video does for this fandom.
It was, on paper, a notable idea to help smaller creators get the recognition they deserve but the pompous, self righteous and egotistical presentation is what let this project down.
This project was advertised to you all as a celebration of the fandom yet all that Play Don’t Pause delivered was a glorified ranking video based on arbitrary reasons that only barely work in a professional field.
On top of which, none that were featured were asked wether they wished to be in it or not and were assumed to be okay with Play Don’t Pause if he stole their work, compared them to each other, complained they weren’t good enough and declared one a “winner”. This fandom is made of passionate, creative, friendly people who’s only goal is to honour a silly book series about trains. Comparing passion projects made out of pure love was morally wrong and Play Don’t Pause should apologise if not for anything then that alone.
Thank you for reading and if you yourself are a content creator or wish to be do not listen to this video and continue to create the videos you want for your own reasons, not for a digital trophy.

OH BOY... this video's reception is a trainwreck of good and bad. I keep noticing the comments stating lack of permission - which is very important - and the controversy behind many of the nominees; I may not know all the drama behind a lot of them (and I think it'd be wise of myself to stay out of it) but I think this video became a spark to the gunpowder barrel that was the Thomas fandom.
I myself thought that this video was interesting, seeing all of these incredible pieces of work that people from everywhere put their efforts into. It is important to obtain permission for using these clips, that I do agree. However, on the topic of controversy: rather than watching everyone wage war on each other on how messed up a certain content creator is, I prefer to enjoy the content itself.
Ay... quite a great shame that a lot of the fandom is bashing you for a couple of crucial mistakes on such a hard-crafted video, but there's always the opportunity to learn from these experiences. I do like your content, and I hope that if you ever hold the Steamy Awards again next year, these lessons to be learned from are taken into consideration.

To be honest, I think the whole "drama behind nominees" is the perfect example of separating art from artist.
Take the example of Victor Tanzig, who gets cancelled on twitter because he did joke after joke that twitter crybabies didn't like such as the pregnant Rosie little arc, but then, his ACTUAL series, Stories of Sodor (and SCPs of Sodor) definitely deserves to: 1) be nominated and 2) win the awards it got nominated to.
To be fair, this was an amazing kind of video and it's a real shame that so many content creators are getting salty at everything in this video, take the example of DemonOfNowhere.

Mostly a personal opinion, I don't think Victor Tanzig should be eligible for awards, he may write good things, but if you look at some of his content, either from his main or Reddit railway channel, he has some distasteful and even racist jokes. This community of amazing people has really inspired me to do so many things that I never considered before and I’m so glad I stumbled across this fandom that not only got me back into Thomas & Friends but also enhanced my enjoyment of making TH-cam videos and I appreciate every single person who uploaded these amazing Thomas videos from every single year of TH-cam and I’m so glad you made this video and I hope you make more Steamy Awards videos if you get the time!

What happened there was a summary of this whole video, a shamble and a mess, insulting other people's content, and then going on to say that you didn't ask for permission and giving awards to creators such as Percy and the Beast Productions, best editor awards when the content they used wasn't their own
What else can I say you may have butchered the entire Thomas community with this, and I do expect a full apology video towards the content of others that you stole without permission, insulting them, and downplaying some of their work, but at times the Rev W Awdry's as well.
I expect you to do better, but I'm not convinced you can.

I was very much looking forward to it it was announced and having just finished the video I’m left with mixed feelings on the video as a whole. I think the idea while very nice leaves some things to be desired in execution.
I think the most glaring issue is the lack of input from the fandom past the nominations. One of the key aspects of being a good awards show is being a representation of the thoughts and feelings of the audience as a whole which I don’t this did as the winners were ultimately decided by yourself and not the fandom as a whole. It’s also compounded by the fact that you as you admit haven’t seen everything of the nominees which while understandable I think only makes it more important for the audience/ fandom to decide as we do know these creators inside and out.
If you were going to make it based largely on your opinion I feel a showcase rather than an awards ceremony would have been a much more fitting as it’s not so much a competition but a celebration of what the fandom accomplished in 2022 and makes it much more fair on the creators and audience.
If you do decide to make this an annual thing I do hope you take on this criticism not as me simply trying to belittle you but as feedback to improve it in future.
Also has been mentioned, I don't believe you received permission from all the creators to showcase their work let alone participate which is something that should have been taken care of.
Not everyone wants to be something like and having your work compared to others creators can demoralizing for some. Again I think just shows some aspects(but very major ones) that you overlooked when creating this.

Well, Joey Turner does have his own comics on DeviantART, so he still does Thomas content, just not often on TH-cam, not to mention he released a dub of The Railcar and the Bus during 2022, you really should've counted his 2022 comics for the nominations.
