Seems like all people want to know how to do is buff paint out to a mirror finish. Well, everything has a proper procedure. You cant bake a cake until you turn the oven on. I have seen people claim to do a detail in an hour and charge $500 for it and all your getting is the worlds most expensive car wash. For those wanting to get into this industry, know that there are a LOT of scammers out there so you got to be on top of your game, be better than the other guy, and always stay humble!
Great info Mike, I have been watching and testing for a while and I still do not know it all. A good detailer will always watch and learn and try to improve him or herself. I came across a so called detailer that did not know what he was talking about to a customer that owns a 1950 caddy, and now the paint is scratched to hell. Never stop learning and improving is what I try to do.
I always trip on myself for taking so long on full detail jobs because I hear people saying they get done in under two hours and charge hundreds of dollars. I feel like I’m missing something cause it takes me anywhere from 3.5 - 6 hours!!!
Great Job on the videos. I love seeing people take things to the next level. People will pay for this type of quality, including my self. The days of whos the cheapest is over.
Please make more of these tip videos! Specifically on polishing/paint correction, DEEP detailing, protective film wrapping, pricing and hiring process.
Good video. I’m a week or so away from getting clientele. This video reassured me that I’m on the right track. The air compressor is the last tool I need to get off to a good start! Thanks for the added assurance.
This made me laugh. I bought a detailing stool this yr and I can’t believe I didn’t do it hrs ago. My back and my knees thank me each time I roll it out.
Anytime you're moving air you're pulling airborne particulate along with it and throwing it at the surface of the car. So unless you're washing your car in a level 1 clean room this doesn't seem like a great idea.
@@Rocheman79 I'm not saying there are obvious or even perceptible issues. I'm just saying there's particulate in the air and you're shooting it against the surface of your car, which taken superficially doesn't seem like a good idea. If I have a choice between that and a perfectly clean microfiber, I'll take the latter.
J D well I can tell you this much a microfiber will contribute more the marring the surface of your car then air will. Think about this way your car drives down the road at 70mph and does not get damaged sure there are rock chips but that comes from other cars throwing up stones. Air from a leaf blower will not damage your car lol
The dealership i detail at got us some tools called Tornadors. We used them all the time for sticky cup holders or i like to use them in hard to reach door jams and rockers or rocksalt on carpets dont stand a chance. Very useful tools if used correctly. Single thumb switch that toggles either a high flowing mist or just air at the same pressure as a normal air wand.
Yes, I also used to use that tool. I loved it at first but got to be a big PIA. Had to fill it up all the time and half the time it would just stop working, plus it's loud and creates a mist cloud of chemical and dirt.
Thank you sir! I'm on that beginning, not quite sure what to charge, still working on speed. I've come to where Im more confident, able to honestly charge more and have faith in my abilities and process. Such a good point you made about charge accordingly.
First of all I would like to say that I am new to your channel and I love it! Car detailing is an Art & a Science. I live in NJ unfortunately not near you guys but at least I can learn from your channel. Of course I SUB’D. Keep up the great work!
I've got to say this is really important to keep in mind. I'm just starting and i agree with you and some things helped me, and the other ones i already know are good to keep in mind. Good job and thank you very much!!
Nice job bro, I do a lot of detailing on weekends for friend of a friend and do a lot of the skills u just mentioned. Your right it's not what you use it's how u do it. I make at lease $300 on only 2 cars nice on weekends.
Can you do a walthrough of the system you use to spray your glass cleaner and snow foam etc. with the hose like that? I'm really curious what a setup like that entails
Great tips and vids bud ...iam starting w a nice van setup and do a great job but always learn no things! Wish and hope for the best ...thanks again. ..great shop and work...! I will be their one day! 100%
Nice you guys are from Chicago too! I started detailing in October so still very very new to this but I have done a dozen cars or so. Excited to start on the journey of detailing.
For cars which have the door frame around the window I like to leave the window open just a bit to be able to clean the very top. I then shut all the windows and clean the bottoms.
Great video. I have seen it befor and I here watching it again. I am not a detailer yet but I am slowly walking to that direction. I have just purchased my 1st detailing kit and I have purchased and invested in quite a good amount of stuff already. At the present moment I am working for a posh garage as the car washer. I learned the 2 cloth method for the windows from you but I really get mad when I miss a spot or the windshield or windows still has a streak. It is an open air car wash. But where I miss more times is on the wheels and I get so mad because I scrub and scrub and dry the wheels and I can still miss sometimes... I need to try drop the time I take a bit more. I avarage 2h for a full interior and exterior wash. And If I am preparing a car for the showroom (the company has the showroom and the garage) I can take longer than that. Do you happen to miss spots some times? Do you have to retouch some times? Regards buddy!
i live in las vegas, our summer temps are 115 outside. not matter what process i do for window cleaning, it will ALWAYS have streaks, even if i buy 10 ppm water, same things with a claybar, the water dries off too fast, and a decent air compressor wont fit in my van, and not everyone has a garage to work in lol
Serge Shaakov I have the same problem with a lot of window cleaners. Have you tried stoners invisiglass? I only use it on extremely hot days but I’ve never gotten streaks. Invisiglass with a two waffle weave towel method. Works wonders
You can get light scratches, and therefore a polish may be needed, and by that polish your sealant be removed. If your car is new, you should just use a tar removere, and a ferrous fallout remover spray, let that soak for 2 minutes and rinse off. Im sorry for my bad english, but i hope that you'll understand.
Completely depends on the market.... for instance in my area consistent business is in the 120-200 dollar range for a full interior or full exterior detail. (Not including paint correction) some guys in higher end areas would laugh at that amount for a detail. I would start mobile detailing first, feel out the market and move from there. Especially because you will have to steal a lot of customers from other detailers.
Jacob Prince thanks for the info. Another question... when you started out mobile detailing was it understood with the client that you would use their water connection or did you have a tank in the vehicle? A friend of mine installed a tank in his van but he was never able to get the pump to sufficiently provide the right amount needed to run a pressure washer.
@@williamthompson2141 I always use the client's water and power connections. It's pretty much understood. I've never had a client be surprised that I didn't have onboard power and water.
Claybar doesn't scratch? It most certainly does. Don't use a claybar unless you plan on polishing afterwards. Otherwise you are just scratching the vehicle even further.
100%. I was just about to add that. In fact; if you are NOT going to polish with a DA, then DONT use the clay bar to begin with. This guy is giving bad advice.
I am from Mexico, I have my detailed workshop, you can find us on facebook Detailed Wash Car Spa, it would be incredible to be there with you and work with you brother
I would suggest you take off the jewelry and put it all in your pocket or a keepsake bag, so you don't scratch something. Do the samething with your key chains, and maybe your belt, and clothes with zippers.

I'm in the same place man. Lookignfor that profit to get my compressor and use it as effectively as possible.
Man, I love this channel. I learn so much.
Auto detailing can be very therapeutic...
My back doesn’t think it’s therapeutic
777Gianni777 neither does mine. An 8 hour detail in the middle of the summer is the furthest thing from therapy
This made me laugh. I bought a detailing stool this yr and I can’t believe I didn’t do it hrs ago. My back and my knees thank me each time I roll it out.
6:07 😂
The air compressor blew you away, good one 😂
Really helpful vid bye
Air compressor is so useful in detailing especially interior detailing! I definitely prefer a leaf blower for exterior drying of the car though
best way to dry is is a get a couple fans blowing on the c ar in a heated garage water blade the entire c ar top to bottom then air compressor shammy
Anytime you're moving air you're pulling airborne particulate along with it and throwing it at the surface of the car. So unless you're washing your car in a level 1 clean room this doesn't seem like a great idea.
J D not true lots of people use a leaf blower on there car with no such issues

Awesome advice!! Thanks for this video! I explained the same issues when we started with basic washes on one of our last videos also!
in all honesty though, I am super impressed by how your videos get more and more polished with every new video. Great job.

Amen !! Awesome tips ! For tip #6, what do you think of steamers ?
Love it! would be great to know some pricing guidelines maybe what services are provided vs car models. Some price ranges at least. Thanks!
Lenny Ramirez just avg to $30hr or $100hr
Can you do a walthrough of the system you use to spray your glass cleaner and snow foam etc. with the hose like that? I'm really curious what a setup like that entails
I may at some point. If you want you can call the shop and talk to my business partner Greg about the system.

In Tip #2, you are using a "clay towel" which has a layer of clay bonded to the towel. It works like a clay bar.
Great vid good biz info....
Thank you for a great video new subscriber
Awesome can you teach me to polish please !?
spot on , thanks...!!
That's what I call a beard! Good video!
Windows are the hardest to do !! Been detailing for 15years
Smokers windows are the hardest to do.
Jay you're my detailing idol 😂😂 it looks like you detail high-end cars, that tells me you do high-end detailing
Does Clay bar remove Clear Coat
Wow thank you IAM barely starting out
What exactly is that chemical dispensing system? It looks so cool!
Mixing chambers, hydrominders, and pumps that feed to lines and guns throughout the shop.
Nice beard. Great tips!
My new car has sealant put on from the dealership. This was done before possession. Will Clay bar strip this sealant?
You can get light scratches, and therefore a polish may be needed, and by that polish your sealant be removed.
If your car is new, you should just use a tar removere, and a ferrous fallout remover spray, let that soak for 2 minutes and rinse off.

Oil on hands transfers no?
Do you throw away the clay mitt after one use?
No usually the packaging says how many vehicles you can play before disposing. Clay mitts tend to do more vehicles than a clay bar
Another nice ☝🏾
What kind of money would i be able to make if i opened my own shop? Is it feasible to quit my job or should i start it as a weekend thing?

I never thought of spraying the towel with the glass cleaner...
I just had my car wrapped (gloss), can I still use a claybar?
If you just had your vehicle wrapped then you shouldn't need to clay it

Yes
What kind of pro details with a foot of belt hanging down?
Nice. Cleaning a clean window.
Lol real shit

@Flap Jackumz haha
you learn the glass trick from polishing glassware at the Creek?
did anyone see how the clay bar landed on the hood ossssssssssssht
so basically you dont need clay lubricant.... just good ol soap and water.
Go a little more
