    I think the mystery crowd at the bus stop in front of that house might be because that stop is the closest to the pedestrian path to Johnson Aggregates.

    Hey Phil! There are two *major* reasons why I can see that there's a backup on that road in the TOD that you mention at around 55:10. First, it appears to be a shorter path to other neighbourhoods in the overall Johnson development than the main arterial, which is probably convincing traffic AI to go down that particular local route as some form of a shortcut. Secondly, the way that one road connects to the arterial is through two junctions, one unit apart, creating a further backup. My main suggestion is to either delete that one-unit length of road, or make it bus-only to preserve the routes you have going through there. This'll disconnect the problem road from the arterial and force traffic down the longer route, which is the main, high-capacity arterial road.

    Hey Phil, a known issue with the super bendy busses is they don't fit into bus bays proper. Now that we have the new buses, it might be worth switching some of the lines like the old semperverde line to one of the newer high capacity.
    Also at 55:00 the issue is that the segment is too short between the two roads so each car is waiting for the intersection to clear before going. I would sever that extra connection so close to the intersection

    The single family home behind the popular bus stop should become a shop. That new neighbourhood looks great. Those ramps need on-off lanes, so when they bunch up, others can continue forward. As Biffa would say: Lane mathematics.

    Honestly man, I think the whole routing situation of Verde has changed so completely that it'd be a perfect long live stream. Lots of time to chat as routes acclimate. It can take 15+ minutes for a route to show changes, after all, especially when speed 3 is the same as speed 1 in these super large cities.

    I love the new bus stations, it's been long overdue to have something compact for transit. I'd honestly though consider keeping the purple line out of the station, just because of how convoluted the route is in the new development. It would be possible to have really close transfers while keeping the buses from looping

    Welcome back. Been missing VB. This is the perfect episode for me. It was a good mix of transit and zoning. Just a thought if the bus lines are being used so much at what point does the city say that they need extend the metro system to this new area?

    I love how this stadium district is coming along with the phased-out implementation. Would love to see similar larger scale multi-phase projects in Nicolet Bay and CWW :)
    also, I noticed your buses actually use bus lanes.. what type of wizardry is this?!

      They will prioritize use of bus lanes as long the bus road is not one street long and the bus needs to make a left turn. If they need to left turn, then the bus lane is the wrong lane so they won't use it. If its only about one street in length, then the bus may no have time to switch in and out of the bus lane to use it. Make sure there's space for the bus to switch on and off of it.

      @@ssicari this is true, however i've noticed that if the road continuing left also is a bus lane, then the buses will use the bus lane when going left as well .. *sometimes*. Idk, they some times do at least

    I think it would be really cool if you made a video walking around your cities in first person. Like overcharged egg did in Ilos. Verde beach is an amazing city, i believe I talk for a lot of us when I say that the city would look really nice from ground level.

    I was going through CPP withdrawal this week, so I went back to the original Bluffside Crossing videos to get my CPP fix. My two takeaways from this: 1) WOW you have gotten so much better as a builder in this game Phil, and 2) It wasn't until I didn't have a new video to watch that I realized how truly grateful for all of the content you produce!     One thing about lane mathematics: take a drive around the freeway network in your area---you'll find the on and off ramps all have acceleration and deceleration lanes. This means one or two segments of your highway should have one additional lane to handle traffic entering and leaving the freeway. Teddy Radko and Imperatur show how it's done perfectly without the perfect becoming the enemy of good!

    The sound walls near the space center iirc was because you were concerned about the shockwave affecting drivers on the highway. IDK how valid that is given the distance but yea...
    55:56, you can turn one more segment into a bus lane road do separate car and bus traffic so it runs more smoothly. And yea you can now reduce some of the buses which will actually increase capacity as there will be less congestion

    Hey Phil, smooth S-curves can be achieved by drawing a straight road between the offset sections. Find the middle point on the road (best when the full road is of equal units), and draw a temporary road to set the road endpoint perfectly in the middle of the road. Delete one half of the straight section and build a new freeform road beginning 180* off the highway connected to the temporary road. Next, delete the second half of the straight section and the temporary road and repeat building a freeform road to connect at the middle. The two roads should connect at 180* and be perfectly symmetrical every time.

    In the UK it's common to have "sidewalks" on one side the road and not the other. A general rule of thumb is that if there are no pavements it's a 60mph speed limit, if there's one pavement it's a 40mph limit and two pavements it's a 30mph limit.

    Hey Uncle Phil i just had an idea since you said at the beginning of this playthrough that you wanted to build all unique buildings and I thought it would be cool if you created so districts to add some foreign styles. I thought a cool idea would be some foreign company is investing in something or another sending some workers or so immigrants came to verde Beach and tried to make it feel like home. You don't have to do this I just thought it would be cool and thanks for sparking my interest in city planning!

    Great episode as always. One thing I'd like to see in the next iteration of Cities is some expanded light rail and/or tram assets emphasizing at-grade crossings, since they seem to be more frequent in American cities that focus on motor vehicle infrastructure. I used to live near Dallas, TX, which has a relatively significant light rail system that at least attempts to alleviate some vehicle traffic. VB has such a large urban and suburban sprawl at this point that I wonder if some sort of Light Rail system would be effective. I suppose you could interchange Light Rail and overground metro as they achieve the same goal. VB has really come a long way! Looking forward to seeing it grow further!

    Got some bunching around those new bus stations, maybe it would flow a little better making it into a square-a-about. Also, the bunching might be reduced a bit by just using the highest capacity buses possible on the routes to take a few vehicles off some of them
    I wouldn't normally do this but the utilisation of those routes is just so high. Could also ditch the ploppable stations and stick two or three 2-way bus only roads through the middle of the block for a custom bus station. not all the buses have to queue up at the same two entrances (get 4 or 6 entrances this way)

    Welcome back Phil. I think the throat depth from the main street/bus street/overpass street is too short (55:51), which is causing the back up. When you have two intersections that close you really need signal lights that are in sync which you can't do in vanilla. I'd recommend leaving the main street/bridge street connection and severing the bus street. You can then either have the bus street join main street midblock, or just have it loop around to another location. Finally, consider converting the street section in front of the single family home bus stop to four lane bus/mixed flow, this would allow room for loading.

    i think there’s still some work to be done with how the buses move through the neighborhood. perhaps having the stations on opposite sides of the area so they stay out of each other’s way but also give some transfer opportunities

    Love doing integrated cities, i'm currently playing a city that half of it is pedestrian with a few major avenues in between with a LOT of supporting metro and bus hubs, currently at 230k and counting.

    Just an FYI...if you want to extend a ramp further than 12 units and maintain a straight slope you just need to make sure you don't go all the way to the ground. If you maintain at least a one unit height you can extend the ramp indefinitely.

    This development reminds me of Shirlington, Arlington Virginia's lesser known TOD neighborhood. Mixed use development adjacent to a highway and served only by buses, with a dedicated bus station designed to compete with the metrorail stations in other nearby neighborhoods. The only difference is the bus-only lanes on the highway are instead managed express lanes that the buses are allowed to use.

    One thing you could consider for those bus terminals could be to seperate them completely from being directly interacting with roads that also carry normal traffic. You could perhaps even give the busses a dedicated road in and out from the collector and a seperate road for people to get to the terminals with no busses on it at all, just to seperate the traffic.

    13:46 There's a street in my town that I used to cut through to get to another neighborhood that was flanked by a cemetery on one side and undeveloped reservation land on the other, it was literally half dirt on the reservation side and only paved on the cemetery side.

    I lived in Japan for 5 years ish, and I have to say that having the kind of public transportation that they have is a luxury utterly unlike anywhere I have ever been in North America. It's not even a comparison and it's been the single hardest thing about returning to the US. You drive or you go nowhere. Unless you're flying, you're driving. There's a handful of municipality busses and subways in a couple larger cities like NYC. But that's it.
    I HATE car culture. When I build in this game I love building transit networks and walking paths.
    And boy do I need to learn from you and start naming my routes.

    At 43:28 there is a route in the middle going off to the left through Johnson Aggregates, this route should be extended to the transfer hub to better serve Johnson Aggregates, which would help with crowding on the other routes

    My city's apparently looking at developing five or so mixed-use nodes around the city in the suburbs, one of them explicitly suggested to be TOD (in a city with half-hourly peak service, no service on Sundays and a meh reach.. makes me slightly concerned). I can only hope it goes as well as this!

    Thanks to the decrease in width of the bridge, I could see adding a pedestrian bridge next to it - it’s like if you were shifting the lanes over and adding barriers for pedestrian/bike movement over the bridge, but accommodating the game features

    Hey Phil, love how far this city has come along. You have mentioned a couple times about increasing height as your density increases, but Vanilla CS doesn't have the best way of accomplishing this. I found the new Heart of Korea Low-Density Residential fits in this slot well. The households are higher, the buildings are low to mid rise. Even the High Density Residential has mid to high-rise buildings that runs well into default or modern city center higher density. In my current project my downtown area scales up with: Low HoK res, High Hok Res, then Office financial and High MCC Res. Curious if you would agree or possibly test this out.     Jurisdictional boundaries create interesting situations. For example, in Meridian/Eagle, Idaho, there has been a road that has been overdue to be turned from a two lane road to a four lane road for at least 5 years. There is still a one-mile section that has not been upgraded due to businesses and residents who have delayed the much needed growth. This section of road has been a literal bottle-neck in the flow of traffic. The Idaho Transportation Department was set on creating a continuous-flow interchange at an intersection where traffic is heavy in every direction. However, people did not like the idea, and we are now stuck with a traditional traffic light.

    I think how busy those bus stations/stops are, means you might need some higher level transit (Subways come to mind), but still keep the buses! Just need more variety in transit imo

    14:20 it’s interesting hearing about different rules. In the UK I believe all roads are paid for at a county level except for motorways which are national. As far as I know nothing is done locally so you don’t get the weird jurisdiction issues.
