I installed these on my bike recently, front brake works perfectly. Stronger than my Shimano Zees on my hardtail. The rear brake however is a different beast. Bled it numerous times, no air bubbles visible during the bleed, but the lever comes back to the bar and the rear wheel doesn’t lock. It slows, but doesn’t lock with the lever pinned against the grip. 🤷♂️
Funny enough, I purged my system and I'm having the same problem! I did the Magura procedure like 5 times, and it only feels a little better. What I'm going to try next is to gravity bleed them. It's an easy way to bleed brakes, so it is worth a shot. If you don't know what gravity bleeding is, Sid & Macky made a good video on it.
Thanks man! Glad you think that! I've been putting some miles on mine and they are AMAZING! If you are coming from Codes (Or other brakes that aren't that power full ) you will not be even be a tiny bit disappointed! I can 1 finger brake now 😄
I got a bike with Sram Code R brakes. I’m thinking about switching to Magura MT7. But I heard bleeding procedure could be PITA and it won’t work well unless you get all the air out. Was bleeding process easy for you? Also how does it compare to Code R in terms of power?
I had the Code R's before this, and they were TERRIBLE compared to these. bleeding was a breez for me. I've done it 5 times one all sorts of Magura brakes and I've never had any real issues bleeding them. I would highly recommend them. They have been going strong for the last 2 years 💪
Thanks man, amazing video. need some help though i have 180 mm rotors i might need an adaptrer, how do i check which adapter i need. also is there any bleeding needed, and any special tools?
Well it depends on the fork and frame. You can look at the frame manufacturers website and look to see what size rotor it can take. Most will do 180 with no adapter. And so if it is 180 and you trying to put 203 on there is it would be 203 - 180 = 23mm so that means you need a 23mm adapter. You said you have 180 front and rear? I'm going to assume they have no adapters and you want to run 203mm rotors. And in that case you will need 2 23mm post adapters. Yes, you will need a bleed kit. I would just get the basic magura one since it is cheap and has everything you will need. Hope that helps.
Great video man, nice clean install. Did you have to bleed the system after the install? Dit the brakes come with extra barb fittins or should I order some? Thanks again man!
Thanks dude! Yes, if you cut the lines you will need to bleed the system. Yes it comes with extra barbs and olives. No problem man, anytime. Ask as many questions that you may have.
Do you know if the spacers from another brand can be used for the Magura caliper if the rotor is the same size? I have Shimanos right now with 203 rotors. My Fox 38 is designed for 180 rotors, so the Shimanos use a spacer to go to 203. Would that be a standar spacing ans i can reuse it?
Do you know if Magura levers integrate with SRAM shifters and a dropper post the way Codes do? If so, is it an extra adapter that needs to be purchased, or does it come with the kit?
Hey man, thanks again for answering my previous question, and I loved your review video. About to pull the trigger on the Mt7 pro with the hc lever as well. I have a 2019 5010 that came with the fox float, I ordered the QM40 Adaptor, that sounds right huh? Did you get the bleed kit? Are the 100 ml of magura oil enough? Thanks again man!!
Thank you! What rotors are you going to be running? The QM40 is 20mm so that would be for 180 to 200 but if your running Magura rotors (203mm) like me then you will need a 23mm adapter AKA QM44. Hope that helps.
Hey dude hope you're well! I had a quick question, have your MT7's ever given grinding feedback when braking gradually? Mine lock up totally fine but gradual braking is painful. I tried sanding / cleaning / re-bedding and nothing will solve it. And I am using the thicker MDR-P Magura rotor
