Hi Splat! Thanks a ton for featuring us again. It means a lot to the whole team. Updates might be fewer from now on, but we're committed to continuing to improve wherever we can.
any chance of a DLC/expansion coming up
Too late. You already had me at "Welcome back to the Nerdcastle". I love this game so much. The basic corvettes are usable if you know how to hit and run with them, but the real game takes off when you get your first shield generator.
Love the game too. My first big win was 6 deployable shotgun turrets on the flagship. :)
I want Sid Meier's Pirates in SPAAAAA-
Oh wait that's Star Sector.
Wishlisted because this actually works on the steamdeck.
love starsector
starsector also works on the steamdeck
@@TheMasterChief101234 wait it does???
I need Star Sector for casuels
@@vilerite Ye, just download and then add the game as a non-steam game from desktop mode. You'll have to map your own controls though, since starsector doesn't have built-in controller support.
Oooooh !!! this looks like Disney's battle at procyon ! I loved this game !
Update: it REALLY looks like battle at procyon. Which is a really good thing to me XD
YES! just unlocked a core memory for me what a great gameee
Battle of Procyon is available on Steam!
@@ajobe15 does it work on modern systems?
That one asymmetric iron armour square ...
SPLAAAAT!
MUST...NOT...SCREAM...
Came here to REEE
glad im not the only one that saw that
This is one of the early games I watched you play and its the only one I have purchased! not that some others haven't struck me (too many to be honest!) but there was something about this one's feel that I went right over and purchased it! I do not regret it, this is a fun game, its good to see you getting back to it!
lol sweet, video! Thank you for all you do Splatt! I like the gameplay loop on this.
The command abilites of your flagship are not all passives, they use moral (or other consumables meters) to power the abilities and you can actively use them in combat not just switch between passives, you can also add a full NPC crew to the rest of your ships as well to buff them, later on you can manage MANY fleets at once with the remote command system to build a trading/hauling or production empire if you like.
@splat yes there are MUCH larger vessels. :) I have played many, many hours in this game since you first covered it. The game gets even better the deeper you go. Absoultely love this game and the games discord is quite good and dev team very active with the community.
This is the kind of game I didn't know I needed till I needed it in my life.
You had me at "Sid Meier's Pirates in the sky."
So glad you checked back on the game.
Close to the moon indeed, i never thought this would interest me but it looks like fun, and the combat control seems friendly enough. Airships are friggin sweet
Remember that old game when you get to fly entire mountains and destroy other peoples flying fortresses.

@@ximiony Thanks for that, this is one of those games i played on a demo disk as a kid, played it a ton but could never remember the name of! shame it's not on GoG.
When I saw the title of this video, I was hooked. I loved Sid Meier's Pirates and with it would get a remake. This looks like it will be filling that gap for me. Thanks Splat!
I played it as a wee guy in the 80s on my Uncle's Tandy, and no game before or since captured me quite that way.
@@sidneysill8495 I've played a ton of games over the years in just about every genre imaginable and nothing has been quite like Pirates.
It's been sitting in my wishlist since you reviewed it first. You got me at sid meier 😂
Thanks for showcasing! ^^
It has a older(simpler) game look and I like it. Your video got me to buy it. I saw it on recommended videos.
I loved SM's Pirates. Haven't played that in years.
got this the last time you covered it. lots of fun!
This reminds me I wanna play the OG Rebel Galaxy again.
I was just playing outlaw but its not as good as the original rebel galaxy. The problem i have with both of those games is not enough variety with weapons and ships.
Everspace 2, guys! ;-)
wishlisted, thanks splat!
Okay, yeah, this game is going to be my jam. Sid Meyer's Pirates is a beloved set of gaming memories, and this DOES scratch that itch with additional RPG elements and no need to be beholden to tacking against the wind. Thankfully the game is on sale at GOG, so I have not hesitated to snap it up.
Great. Now i have to go and play Sid Meyers Pirates again... Nice :).
Pirates! Gold and New Horizons (on SNES) are two of my all-time favorite games. I always have an itch for some thing in that area…Merchants of the Skies and Star Traders are the best two modern games so far to hit in the same neighborhood… I’ll check this one out for sure.
getting serious treasure planet vibes, & I'm all for it
Looks so much better then last time!
Thanks, Splatt!
That combat is giving me star sector vibes
Thanks, now I have to reinstall Starsector.
Interesting take. The mechanics are obviously different, but the pacing is quite similar
@@jonpaul6948 damn right you do.
This looks like a mashup between Avorion and Sunless Sea, and I like that.
This looked like a fantasy-esque starsector or astrox. Gonna check it out
Ill only be hooked if it has a similar ranking structure as said Pirates game. From a soldier to a Duke.
Sweet, reminds me of Port Royle back when it was decent. I'll have to give it a look.
Sid Meier's Pirates mentioned? Instant sale.
Man I want a sequal to Sid Meier's Pirates so badly.
Glad there's others out there that love "Pirates" i won't get rid of my 360 because i have it for that
This game looks amazing!
great to know they seem to be going to way of Starsector, this had amazing potential since the first time I saw it. I have huge expectations from this game, but maybe I'll give them a couple more years.
Thank you for adding the Titel of the Game in your Video Titles
24 seconds in and I'm sold
I did just load up muskets to capture those ships Kaching!
I see there's a UI thing for shields that might be a good option for protecting those exposed mana drives.
Gotta admit... I've had this game for a looooong time - never loaded it. Having watched this I am stocking up on beer, wine, popcorn, pizza..... this is my next project......
33:08 Well I just felt personally attacked at this point
Bought it! I'm going to run a fleet of ironclads
I think they missed the mark with the aesthetics. The sky is so dark it might as well be water, it really doesn't feel like you are in the sky.
It looks almost identical to Barking Dog's Treasure Planet: Battle at Procyon from 2002. Which, to be fair, was pretty fun.
I got my Sid Meier Pirate along with Crimson Skies itch from Brew Barons.
Bah, the way it plays mind as well make them sea ships.
OMG I am in love
The game becomes quite repetitive quickly... But my biggest problem is, as you see in the first 2 minute of your video. When you go to board a ship, your own fleet keeps firing at the target ship.. There is NO Cease fire button... Really annoying.
There most certainly *is* a cease fire button.
@@col.firefly where...
@@x...CrankyOldMan...x can change ships firing stance at a menu somewhere at the left during combat if i remember well.
@@col.fireflysaying that but not saying where or how is actually insane 😂
@@x...CrankyOldMan...x On your escorts displays, just below the speed indicator there is a lit button. This toggles on and off direct fire weapons. If the escorts have riders installed, there will be a dock/launch button to the left of the direct fire toggle.
Looks very interesting.
This reminds me of Star Trader Frontier. The only big difference is that this isn't in space, going for more of a steam-punk aesthetic.
Sid Meier's Pirates is still to this date THE BEST pirate game ever.
It's a shame you don't get to fight the captain of the boarded ship like it was in Sid's original Pirates. The enemy captain strength and confidence was dependent on how much crew was left when you boarded. As was your captain. The more crew the longer the fight before you or either the enemy captain would kneel and surrender. And it also depended on well you fought as well.
Oh, I remember way back in the original Sid Meyer's Pirates when my little sloop was boarded by a British frigate. My crew died as flies due to being outnumbered.
I somehow managed to defeat the British captain, and hence, we won. I had a lot of good use of that frigate.
I like fighting in assassin's creed were you have to fight the captain or sabotage the ship or beat the officers 🤔
It's on sale now! Grabbing it
There was a really good RPG on the Nintendo Game Cube back in the day that involved you being the captain of your own airship. The story was good, the mechanics were good, you had a bountyhunter chasing you during the course of the story who was easily harder than any of the bosses you'd encounter. Wish I could recall the name but I do remember pouring at least a couple hundred hours into it.
That game probably is "Skies of arcadia"
@@PedroIgori Yes!! tyvm!!
Holy shit... This game IS Sky of Arcadia simulator !! I need to take a closer looks ! Thanks for sharing man !
Be prepare is very slow, one tip, as soon you have the money, upgrade the weapons of your starter ship, I got lucky and got very well armed pirate ship, but in my first "boss battle" I needed to upgrade the weapons of my second ship, you need to do some math to learn how damage they cause, money is the name of the game, more money you have, better ships you can buy and modified, but it really slow, even with speeding buttons, travel to one point of the map to another take an hour, because ships consume fuel, and you need fuel to the cruise speed, and need other resources when you are in combat, so you need to stop to refuel, repair or hire more crew.
@@TheKeyser94 all right! Thanks !
That does look noice, ngl.
Treasure Planet Vibes
Looks like a great game if that's your bag
Wooo Splat time.
Sold. This is why I come here.
there are chapters which introduce harder enemies and larger ships, all the way up to battlecruiser size so far.
Reminds me of pirates of the caribbean / sea dogs 2, at least the fun parts. I might wishlist this, even though I still need to finish many other games first
This seems more like a smaller scale Starsector which I honestly always wanted
Instant buy for me (maybe later the Skin DLC)
My first instinct is to put all cannons on one side followed up by a layer of armor and leave the other side for components.
I really want to play this game
Sunless Sea is still the best “Pirates”-esque game since Pirates.
I don’t know. Port Royale and Patrician were pretty good in that genre
@@morgankensington2789 I concede on both points.
its early access, but for a pirate game i would also suggest seablip, its fun ^^
This looks far more inspired by Uncharted Waters (the classic ones, which had their name stolen by a newer game). Even the damage/crew numbers popping up reminded me of them.
In my experience i could never figure out how to capture ships? It just seems random, and doesn't matter wether i board them or make them surrender. Either way there seems to be a chance to capture them, but most of the time i cant.
Damn I miss games like Sid Meier's Pirates.
2:01 There's a Mexican restaurant near where I work called El Mero Mero. :D Tacos for the entire crew!
This reminds me of Skies of Arcadia
I was going to remark about how there is a "War Corvettes" DLC for this game, but then I read the Steam page on it & it turns out to just be a set of reskins for the beginner ships. I don't know if there's any kind of difference as to how they're kitted out or anything like that.
I have this game on my wishlist been torn if I want to get it.
This is exactly a game i was looking for. I got bored of The Pirate: Caribbean Hunt and this looks like it has what caribbean hunt was lacking: Complexity.
From minute 1, so I don't know if you'll mention it. But did you ever play Treasure Planet: Battle of Procyon? That was the very first thing that this reminded me of. An old game but if you like this one maybe take a look at it if you have some time to breathe
Abney Park kicks in
Oh ya that's a fun game, they have made a lot of improvements.
🤣Lumber jacking camps.😂😂
did you say sunless seas, wishlisted 👍
Your airship looks like a ship ship
The ship's reminds me of treasure planet.
whats the point of "sky" setting if it functions like 2d plane; like the sea.
That is not sky combat. That is still a 2D plane.
Yes, it has 18th century ships, but doesn't seem like Pirates at all. I realised this when he boarded a ship, and had no involvement.
And all those big cartoony numbers like it's an ARPG. I just want to see visible damage, damnit.
My wallet is lighter, my backlog is longer. Thank you, I guess!
Bro this is Treasure Planet: Battle at Procyon
I always had just a bit more fun with Koei uncharted waters vs sid meiers pirates
I wish they allowed you to move in the Z axis, isn't that like the main difference between flying a skyship vs a normal ship?
So, this looks like space pirates and zombies 2 should have been.
Sold me at extensive trade.
So this is not in Early Access, but it is for all intents and purposes in Early Access, right? It's not done.
It looks REALLY interesting, I'm putting it on my list, but I'll wait for it to be done.
looks like they are floating on water... no different elevations!?
But where's the fancy dancing minigame?!
what about 3d combat where wind is different on every level
Looks fun and somehow reminds me of Stratosphere: Conquest of the Skies.
Loved that game
Did you name that ship? Nice name lol
only skyship game i want is a kharadron overlord one
2:05 *whistles in Mexican*
