@Splattercatgaming - you are the reason I am broke. You find all these hidden gems and I literally love all of them! I just bought KeeperRL and have already sunk a decent amount of time into that game (loving it by the way). Now I want this. ohhhh my Steam library has never been bigger XD. I appreciate your channel a lot.
Ha! I was just about to leave a comment explaining that I have subscribed and unsubscribed to Splat many times over the last 10 years. Love the channel, but it makes me buy too many games.
Been playing this game for a while. It's definitely a good idea to take up Easy or Moderate fights in the first days to get early level ups, and secure resource production around your town. Even if your army dies, you're unlikely to face the player-enemies in the first week, so you can just rebuild on the next week. A fight labelled as Moderate is one that you'll probably win without any player interference.
The most solid play in the first turns is to build a Tavern and hire a second hero. Give their troops to their main hero and use them only to pick up obelisk pieces and resources. Then when you find the treasure, use the artifacts to power up your main hero so that they can start mopping up your starting land.
I was just playing this yesterday, it's loads of fun. You do have to play carefully though, especially on higher difficulties as if you get your army wiped it can be hard to make a comeback, as AI have a lot more resources on harder settings. Granted, there are a few factions that have mechanics that can let them win with practically no army. Pyre Demon gate can pump out infinite free demons every battle so long as you pay huge amounts of sulfer to upgrade it to spawn higher tier demons. I've won entire battles with it alone and no army backup.
Honestly the AI is pretty severely gimped in this game, even on the hardest difficulties. The computer splits it's army too much after week 2 or so, which makes all of their heroes very easy targets by week 3. This was a better strategy for the AI to use in HoMM, but in HH town portal lets you simultaneously aggressively attack while defending. Turtle for two weeks then overwhelm the AI works all the way up to 3 hardcore AI on a team vs me as any faction.
@@TheAzrai The big maps, but it's not over at week 3, I just have a dominant advantage and can easily pick off any other hero with extremely low losses at the cost of mana or CDs, also the AI wildly underestimates most strong synergetic builds, so "challenging" fights become easy, by week 4 the AI is warning me the fight is impossible and I'm taking minimal losses at massive mana loss or through a broken combination. Town portal then makes it trivial to remain highly aggressive when any moment you can just blink home, which completely undermines the power of multiple medium strength armies/heroes.
@@CMZneu I'm far from a pro, nor have I spent any time looking up strategies or "studying" the game. I absolutely believe that what you're saying is possible with very specific builds, I was more making the point that any hero from any faction can man handle 3 hardcore AIs given the AIs propensity to divide it's armies and horribly miscalculate where town portal can put my one massive army/hero who has gobbled every possible XP point and item.
Downloading the deluxe edition right now. HoMM3 was one of my favorite games back in the day, this game actually ended up in my ignore list because I thought it was another of the many many many roguelite titles that came out... Thanks for showing me otherwise! Sifting through the pile to find out what's worthwhile!
I got bored with homm when I realize that if I just waited days to have a big army I could kill whatever they throw at me...I know this kind of games are hard to balance. I don't remember which one did I play. Any suggestions? This one it's challenging? What about the last might and magic?
@@Revenger373 try the Multiplayer community in HOMM3 and u will find yourself an extreme challenge. As for Hero's Hour its not very challenging once u snowball into late game. Especially using certain factions they can be significantly OP compared to the others.
Every time you release a video, I absolutely need to buy the game you review. Most of them are pretty much exactly the kind of games I like to play. I'd buy Hero's Hour right now if it weren't for the fact that I already bought Hero's Hour when you reviewed it last time.
Yah this is a great little game. The difficulty is a little rough but its so much fun watching all my little guys run around casting spells and such. So cool.
I spent several months making a guide on how to build your heroes/troops in this game...only to then get the memo that the new update will completely change the skill tree system, wasting all of my work. Oh well. I can already beat Hardcore+ with pretty much any faction by now so let's see if that new update shakes things up a bit.
Amazing game, incredible value! My one complaint is how you need to press shift once every playthrough to see what the traits on the unit tooltips mean. It’s strange that it’s hidden by default, like I don’t think many players have played enough to know what everything does? And it’s not like the tooltips take up much space on the screen even when expanded. One thing Splat - your hero’s combat stats are not for improving just the hero on the battlefield, it improves all your units damage/health etc. I guess it applies to your hero as well, but if you want a strong fighting hero you it’s the skills Combat, Midas touch that do the big difference
This game is great! but kinda easy once you figure it out, can consistently win 1 vs 6(on same team) on max difficulty but now that they added 4 advanced setting to make the AI more difficult it's kinda tricky, doable on big sea maps but kinda impossible on smaller.
I haven’t played this since it first came out… I’ll have to circle back and check out the DLC. It looks like there’s been a lot of updates since I last played it… this studio puts out some great games. I can’t wait to see the final version of Sandwalks.
I'm glad you mentioned the AI armies. I haven't played in a while but they used to be pretty absurd with the size of the armies the AI would attack with. After a few games I tried doing nothing but collect resources and bulk up my single army with everything I had in my area and the first AI that reached me would still destroy me fairly easily, even after fighting through the gate and me having a castle wall to hide behind. There's not even a kiting strategy like in HoMM because all the units just +w into each other. I've thought about trying it again since they did some major patching, but I don't get a lot of time to waste anymore and it takes a while to get to that point.
You should be able to take on hard or impossible AI armies when they invade if you have enough mana. Waiting in your starting area is risky tho, you’re generally able to punch out with minimal losses before hc+ AI invade you. Since the AI always deploys troops before you do you can usually fight them with your troops that counter them. I hope you give the game another chance, it’s fantastic and the new patch made it even better!
some of the heroes used to basically get infinite army guys, that has been pulled back a bit. could be kind of frustrating to fight demon armies that only get bigger and bigger during the fight then if they win the hero gets bonus dudes on top of that. I've spent many, many, many hours playing this and enjoyed it a lot. I've tried to go back to older HOMM games and found they don't age great and there's a bit too much RNG on what you get, and there are some HOMM remakes or remasters coming, and of course there are dozens of games trying to replicate HOMM 2 and 3 with modern ideas, but Hero's Hour is totally scratching that itch best for me right now in the slightly crowded scene of games that follow the HOMM2/3 formula. the dev is also pretty straightforward about things so you know what is going on, which is a big plus. I think they're planning on a series of smaller balance and content patches coming up so there will be things that keep you coming back if you think you've "solved" this game. this game is just great. and it's not pricey. if you're young and weren't around for the Heroes of Might and Magic peak years, but you like sort of 4X army games, you'll probably dig this. you can make your game as small or as big as you want so you can choose bite sized games or big expansive ones that take days, so it'll fit either way you like to play. if you have friends who like this type of game I think it goes on heavy discount from time to time so you can get them a copy even cheaper and try out the multiplayer, whether cooperative or competitive. getting two allied armies into one battle to siege a fortress is pretty cool. I'd say this game is a 10/10 for its genre and budget. this is like single A, not AA or AAA, but even against bigger budgeted games in this genre that had flashy kickstarters, this game is still on top.
I bought this game because I was such a HOMM2 and 3 fan in the 90s. It's pretty good. Wish the soundtrack were a little better. The battles are a huge free for all, no real "strategy" in it other than let them go and hit each other.
Game got patched not so long ago. More units, animations, artifacts etc. Some gameplay systems got expanded and I also believe the combat AI was enhanced.
I bought this game after your last coverage. The early game is so much fun and it feels like your actions and army positionings are very impactfull. The late game sucks for me. You and your enemys army is so big, that it will be reinforced 5 times during the battle and it takes forever for fights to end. Positioning doesnt matter and your hero dies so fast that it punishes you. I think they should consider merging units (into groups of 10 100 1000) so the battlefiends are nots clustered af. The lacking end game fun made this game a sore spot for me because I really like the concept.
I had fun with this game for maybe 10 hrs… but it doesn’t have that thing that keeps me wanting to play again. I actually return to Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and 5 more than this one.
How do you literally just get handed the entire Kismet set in 10 minutes? You know how hard it is for me to complete even 2/3 part sets in my games? lol

The units seem to act intelligently enough. With the direct control of hero abilities it adds just the right amount of agency, imo. Otherwise I think with all of the units on screen it would just turn into a pause-fest which would defeat the purpose of the real-time aspect.
I like it. Have always loved HoMM games, and there are other ones that are based on HoMM, so there's no shortage of games where you have control over more aspects of the game. I see Hero's Hour as a cool diversion from that style and also makes it easier to get into if you don't have a lot of time to play!
