The thing is that Sonic Riders was based on the futuristic anti-gravity racer genre like WipEout, F-Zero n all that that are more about speed, cool tracks and just being good at racing which have always historically been less popular than "kart racers" aka combat racers with fun items focused more on the casual party value (which are great too). Heck even Rollcage that tried to merge the two wasn't that popular either. That's probably why SEGA decided to go with the more easy success route I guess, a shame. Love the fact that this is getting some attention and a team towards it Want to give some feedback on the game mechanics (this comes from thousands of hours of playing this game, as it's one of my favorite games of all time.) Just to make it so the mechanics still put forth that feel of fluidity and sound structure that the original did. 1, The Air Meter.) The balancing of the air meter seems to be a bit out of proportion, as when not boosting or drifting it consumes little to nothing, but boosting once seems to basically instantly drain your meter. A change to bring it closer to the original would be to increase the air consumed when just riding slightly, and decrease the air drain when drifting and boosting to still have the task of keeping an eye on your air meter without discouraging boosting/drifting entirely. 2, Jump Physics / Camera Work.) The jump physics differ from the game greatly, as it seems that you go in more or less a straight line to the destination instead of a gradual arc with an slight pause at the apex and a natural descent. Adjusting the trajectory of the jumps to Arc more naturally with a pause at the apex of them would bring it more in line with the original as well as do it more justice aesthetically. In terms of how jumps are handled, I do like the change where instead of charging to get maximum distance out of a jump, you instead time hitting jump right at the edge of the ramp to get max distance (One of the only mechanics I like from Zero Gravity.), this makes it so you don't dump all of your momentum in order to get the peak distance out of your jump, although it does slightly neuter the anticipation before the jump (This would mean removal of the charge jump entirely, which I think would be completely fine). This would also mean mistiming a jump by hitting it too early would result in a slow, low arcing jump that doesn't allow for many tricks to be preformed like in the original if you didn't charge before jumping off of a ramp. I would also hope that the mechanic where the direction you hold when initiating a jump influencing the distance/height of the jump corresponding to the steepness of the ramp is still there, such as doing a forward jump at the start of Metal City to get more distance and land on the upper path, and doing a backwards jump on steeper ramps like at the beginning of Sky Road to get the most height of your jump. In terms of the Camera Work when a jump is preformed, more examples need to be pulled from the original to mimic it, but this is more of an aesthetically pleasing touch that brings it in line with the original, instead of the camera just following the player's character through the air. Things like small zooms, camera temporarily locking into place but tracking the player to resume following after a certain period of time, Vertical shots. Examples of excellent camera work can be found on jumps like the beginning of Sky Road, Egg Factory, and towards the end of a Metal City lap. 3, Other Small Details.) Making sure that character/class specific routes stay class specific for balancing reasons/sticking with the original, and adding light indicators at the end of grind rails to make it easier to visually know when you need to jump.

I've played Sonic Riders when I got it for Christmas 2006, nearly 8 months after it was released during president's day 2006. Unfortunately I never got the sequel on PS2, but I did see the walkthrough of Zero Gravity many, many times. But unfortunately I felt that the sequel never really played the same way the original did. So I use to play the first game more often than the second one. Now, seeing this being remade and restored with new features, mods, etc. Man, it feels like Sega has LOOOONG forgotten about this Sonic spinoff and thus the fans did an amazing work getting it to where it is now. To this day we still own the copy of Sonic Riders, just that I don't play it too often because I always find it difficult to get on the rails (Speed characters only) and jumping so high you get towards the second platform (Which in Metal City I always struggled to get up as high as I can. And end up aways on the bottom for some reason.

The textures of grass, water, metal etc.., look a bit weird and they look as if a coat of bloom is applied to them (Sand Ruins looks beautiful though). The camera also needs some work since the tricks and the Drift look a bit floaty and some effects are missing but other than that, this looks outstanding! The character models look awesome and the new mechanics look cool! This remake shows the amount of potential Sonic Riders has to be the perfect Sonic Racing Spin off game! Truly a marvelous piece of work by the fans who made this! Looking forward to see how it improves!
Edit: Wow. Jet is an unlockable in this demo! Complete Metal City in under 2 minutes and you unlock Jet! Amazing! Again, hats off to the fans who made this.
This is in active development. Normally, in the whole development cycle of any game, the esthetics are the last thing to polish, so expect it to look better over time. (all I said before does not apply to Cyberpunk 2077)
@@fernandomartin9190 Yes I know. I never said the game is finished because obviously it isn't. I am just pointing out certain things that needs work so that the devs could know our response about their project. This could allow them to improve their project.
OG riders was the best many good times playing it on gamecube back in the day, hope for a true remake one day.
Sega and sonic team should remake or remastered this game 😊👍
No
@@sonicelite9553 give me one good reason why they shouldn’t.
@@stooopendous ok a remake is good but a remastered is bad
If Sega wont remake the games we want, we'll have the fans do it. This looks crazy.
What the hell are you talking about? Your getting a remastered colors! Besides the "fans" you say are polarizing assholes. Not a opinion either.
@@selassieaspen9940 he said remake. There’s a difference between remaster and remake dude. Sega hasn’t remade shit.
@@selassieaspen9940 No one asked for a remaster of Colors, everyone want Riders
Colors isn't even that good, Wisps aren't used well and stuff
@@Sholver YEAH. JERK
@@Sholver there are people who do want a colors remaster you know.
I can definitely see Metropolitan Highway being a course if Sonic Riders got another game
You know what I used to play sonic riders on ps2 and seeing sonic riders x on HD is cool so you know WE NEED THE GAME TO BE REMASTERED TO PS4 AND PS5 SO THAT WE ALL ONLINE PLAYERS CAN DUKE IT OUT IN AN ONLINE MATCH
this fan-made remaster game look sick, good job because whoever did the remaster of the sonic riders have done outstanding job :)
Finally Sonic Riders looking like the intro cutscenes
Wow this looks incredible I never played the original sonic riders but this looks awesome
Hopefully this remake will take off and have great severs so people can play online with each other
little nitpick I got about the into, Sonic's legs move so fast he looks like a single PNG image, maybe make the legs have a little longer time to be shown so we can actually see they do be movin'.
Never knew this game had such a dedicated fanbase. Wish Sonic battle on the gameboy advance and Sonic DX had that as well.
SEGA needs to honestly just let the community handle Sonic games for a few years. This is crazy dope lol 💎
This is FIIIIIRE!!!
Waiting on that Sonic Battle Remake now 😭😭😭😭😭
Incredible work, the graphics look super colourful and exciting, and gameplay looks fast without being disorienting.
Dear Sega, PLEASE JUST REVIVE THIS GEM AND MAKE IT CROSS PLATFORM
Bruh.... I can't stress how much of an joygasm I just had seeing this in crispy looking graphics. This is literally what I need from Sega and make it online. I would be on it soooooooo heavy like I was on Ps2. Bought all the boards and gold the challenges. God I miss this game
The thing I liked about Sonic Riders on PS2 is the amount of mastery you can achieve per map and class The soundtrack bangs along with the smooth controls. The game has potential for e-sports though a bit niche.
I wish so bad a collection/remake of all Sonic Riders so far, like WipeOut (PS4).
