  • E3D Hemera Extruder on the AM8 or Anet A8 - the build
In this video, I am changing my AM8 extruder to the new and "hot" E3D Hemera extrusion system. Check out my first results in the video and please tell me in the comment section what you think about it. Big thanks to @Thomas Sanladerer for his great work to make the Anet A8 Hemera mount.

Good job on the videos. I too have a AM8 with Hemera extruder. Next week, Im finishing off the AM8 with SKR 1.3 with TMC2209s and a new tft display. Not really sure if I can call it an AM8 at this point...

Hello, i love your films. Can you tell me, how you called the brass screws hollows? And hou did you mounted it in ready 3d print? Special work(project in program, or maybe drilling) or just using hammer to get it tight?

You can adjust the E-Steps also over the Octoprint Interface on the terminal.
    1. Type M503 into the terminal and it will show some information about the printer.
    2. In the line where M92 is shown, you will find also a E100.00(probably or a other number). That is you e-step conut.
2.5 You can extrude 100 mm of filament to see how long it actually is. After that mesurement you can start the calculation
The calculation of the correct e-steps is: (Travel that you shold have in millimeters / travel that you have in millimeters) * e-steps that you have at the moment= new E-steps.
    3. You have to copy the line and exchange the E-Steps that you need to for a correct extrusion. For example I got a dual drive Extruder(3:1 gear ratio) and I changed it from E100.00 to E414.72(my calculation for the e-steps).
4.After you changed the e-steps press enter so that the printer accepts the changes
    5. You need to save the changes by typing M500.
    6. Double check if the new e-steps are saved by typing M503 to se the informations about the printer again.

Wow, super in depth comment, I like this so much. Thanks for the hints and tips! What I show in the video was the result of me assuming that the configuration change in Marlin would change also the settings in the printer and I think a lot of people will fall into the same trap, so I made this point in the video. Thanks for explaining the alternative!

I've noticed that there is a difference in the X carriage rod spacing on some anet a8 machines. I don't remember the measurements off the top of my head but there is indeed a 1mm difference. I think my machine uses a 46mm spacing and some either 45 or 47.

Sounds like a general issue. Maybe the design of the mount should be changed to more have a slot like design for the lower screw mounts opposed to be just holes that are quite inflexible. I will see if I can apply such a change.

@Matthew Findley the Anet A8 has injection moulded X axis mounts and they have over time modified them, I guess to save a bit of plastic, thingiverse has X carriages in rod spacing ranging from 45-48mm!

FWIW, the "TM" tag doesn't mean it's a registered trademark, at least in the US. That's what people use for un-registered trademarks (i.e. someone who is claiming it, but doesn't have it registered yet). The ® symbol is for registered trademarks. :)

It would be nice to see how you wire up the motor and you hotend to the main board.

    • @Crosslink3D
      @Crosslink3D  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I've used the original Motor cable, which fits to the new motor. Good point about the cables though, I will cover this in the follow up video.

For the price of whole system they could have included a mounting plate as well. I don't like the idea of replacing sturdy steel for plastic mount. All in all it seems like a very expensive upgrade for very few benefits. If they went with smaller stepper motor and lighter construction, that would be awesome as it already has lower gear ratio so big motor is not needed as much. Then it would be something to think about.

    Moinsen,
    Danke dir Schon mal.

Ok you are doing this for Fun. only.. obviously.
Frankly retrofitting a Creality 10 (type) Dual drive extruder is a far more intelligent path IMO..
Costing a whopping ~10$ it would be an instant drop in for the old Mk8 of the Anet.
    Plug 'n play.. period
Plus the Crealty one is the ..exact... functional/performance equivalent of the E3d contraption, with None of the expense or user hassles.
