I always wished that kane in the attitude era had Mitchell as a manager to sorta counter Paul bearer or perhaps Kevin Thorne coulda used him as a manager in wwecw or even when he was mordecai. Actually he would’ve been a great mouth piece for the original brood (before they spoke)
As much as I like Brodie Lee, I couldn't agree with you more. The Sinister Minister would have been perfect for the role. You could even include Brodie Lee as his personal bodyguard.
@@hollywood6079 are we judging because he was Like Harper and a parody of Vince McMahon or are we looking at body of work? Cause Brodie's work is actually really good, we just need to find the point of excellence for him.
Heck, I always liked Mitchell's promos, I thought he was an excellent talker, and did well getting his talent over. He sold Abyss to me, and I wasn't even a fan of TNA.
My old roomates were friends with James Mitchell, or Vandy as they called him. He called the house one time (back in the landline days) & when I answered he said 'Hello it's the devil'. I was like oh hey how are you? lol I met him in person years later, he was a really nice guy.
I liked Mitchell a lot as manager of Mortis...! I loved the whole Mortis gimmick! His dark, uncanny entrance music, Mortis' mask that made him almost look like Leatherface, the black face paint under the mask...! The human skulls on Mortis' shoulders. Chris Canyon & James Vandenberg Mitchell did a great job! I wish Mortis would've gotten a bigger push...!
James Michael is one of my favorite managers that is not Cornette I like him because his speaking voice reminds me of a guy who should be reading Edgar Allen Poe more than a wrestling authority figure
Eric Bischoff: James Mitchell was terrible and tried to get himself over Also Eric Bischoff: I will put my son Garrett on TV even though he is terrible and will never be over in a million years
@Gonzalo C.A. IKR! I remember when that prick Garrett flipped the bird to the fans chanting, "You can't wrestle!". Some kid in the middle row returned the favor!😂
Jim is Charlie and he is just sending in the shit he wants to talk about, comfortably avoiding the rest, or at least part of it. Such a brilliant work!
Before all of that, as James Vandenberg, he was manager to Mortis (Chris Kanyon) & Wrath (Bryan Clark) in a long-running feud with WCW's Sub-Zero rip-off called Glacier.
"He was projecting" exactly. Bischoff was on TV putting himself over cause he loved the limelight. James Mitchell was a great promo. The New Church! EB seems to be going against guys for so petty reasons.
I liked Raven vs. Mitchelll fued in TNA, if you listen to Eric he seems to not be a big fan of any alternative dark weird characters at all. He doesn't get it or thinks they won't get mainstream appeal turn advertising off etc. He didn't see much value in Raven for example. By the time Mitchell was in WCW in 1997 with the NWO etc. Eric told him the mortal kombat ripoff angle was dead from the start.
I've always loved James Mitchell, great promo, great look, unique gimmick. He was kind of like an edgy Paul Bearer. I've always been disappointed how easily he was pushed aside. This guy in a feud with with Taker would be brilliant, he could make almost anyone as his wrestler work. Imagine if Heindenreich and Khali were brought in by Mitchell as part of a series to beat Taker, it would have worked so much better if Mitchell was behind it rather than just throwing random big dudes at Taker. Hey before Bray Wyatt, you could have had Mitchell. Such a shame he's not more well known, I always thought he was money.
Highly agree! Wow you're so right, they truly were just throwing big dudes at Taker during Ruthless Aggression era. And having the Sinister Minister be feuding with Taker while Minister could be using these huge giants as his pawns would have been way better.
I kind of disagree with the Sullivan comparison to Mitchell. Kevin was great with the freaks and I couldn't see him managing pretty boys but he was also really good leading The Varsity Club.
I went to a bar while on holiday in Orlando nine years or so ago. Karaoke night (no I didn't sing), and the bloke running it was a certain James Mitchell. He spent the entire evening bumming cigarettes off me...
So Mitchell didn't work his ass off to get abyss over in TNA, plus didn't bishoff end up getting himself over in the NWO with hogan like cornette said it's pot calling the kettle black
James Mitchell looked like real life Satan. His eyebrows were spikey, and he had long sharp fingernails. Wore a clean black and red business suit. The dude is seriously underrated. He woulda easily made WWE HOF if he came and managed someone like Kane.
Mitchell was so entertaining in TNA when I watched it. A manager in the same vain as Fuji, Heenan and Blassie. I could picture him in WWF and manage along side these legendary managers!
Honestly, that's what I thought about most of the managers in general. When the wrestlers never do promos, there's a disconnect. The manager is the one having the feud. Lesnar just shows up every now and then, he doesn't feud with anyone. Heyman does.
It's funny to me that Bischoff didn't see the writing on the wall in terms of his next generation of guys to take the ball & run w/ it. Big Show, Jericho, Booker, Eddie, Rey jr., Benoit, Goldberg, Kanyon, Regal, Helms, O'Haire, etc. And you still had WCW 'lifers' if you will in guys like Flair & Sting.
Mitchell is one of the best mgrs. ever. Great talker, unique look, always a consonant part of whatever brand he was attached to. His best runs were Sinister Minister in ECW, managing Abyss in TNA, and he is a bright spot of the supernatural interdimensional cinematic angles IMPACT does with Rosemary. Doesn't get enough credit for that feud with Raven and the New Church either. I still remember Raven losing his hair.
Laughing at Cornette calling anyone else (yes, even Mitchell) a sinful degenerate. We’ve all heard the stories, from one pot calling a kettle black to another 😉
Might sound weird, but I always saw Mitchell managing Sheamus in 2007 when he broke in. Seems like you could have done something cool with Sheamus's, pale, soulless complexion, red hair, "Irish Curse" moniker, etc.
Mitchell is the reason im a fan of Abyss and Lance Archer to this day. they were feuding and mitchell's promos made me want to see Lance kick both their asses
You have to check out that awesome ass Amish Bakery about 15miles NE of Starkville near Columbus,MS.. Some of the best sweet rolls and bread in the world! A bearclaw that will give you diabetes and put a smile on your face at the same time.
James Mitchell is criminally underrated as a manager. IF Killer (I'm not calling him Karrion, he's KILLER fucking KROSS) Kross was incapable of cutting a good promo and Scarlett wasn't in the picture, James Mitchell would have been a perfect fit with him. They would have been like death and taxes.
609 Eric was also asked about his Mt. Rushmore of managers. He had Heenan, Harley Race, Lou Albano and Jimmy Hart. Any Mt. Rushmore of managers without Cornette is not a valid one at all.
I am so glad he never went wwe or wcw. They would of destroyed his character. He was so over with Mikey whipwreck and tajiri. I miss the old ECW, it was the fans like Paul said that made the wrestlers over or not. A heel or a face, I know ppl called it garbage wrestling but there were alot of guys that put on a great match. With actual holds and not always going for the high spots for a cheap pop. It had its moments but they also threw in some good storylines or grudge matches. I liked how sometimes a match would just happen in the spur of the moment. I once saw at a show the refs ( wrestlers )have a good match with the baldies. It was things like that that made me a fan and liked it more than the other two
Bischoff is dumb! Mitchell was used terribly! His potential was incredible, but Vince prolly didn’t like his look, so no chance to get over. I honestly think Vince’s hate if managers is dumb, so many stars who couldn’t talk were stifled by WWE because their promos were not good,”. Glad Bivens & Stone are gettin some love.
Without hearing Bischoff's comments my guess is he just found Mitchell's character too cartoonish. But I agree with Corny on this one. He did a great job on the mic and did as much as he could with some iffy material.
Bischoff has a lot of gall saying someone else was getting themself over instead of the talent. Bischoff spent more time in front of the camera than anyone other than hogan.
I don’t think it’s fair for Eric to judge James Mitchell that way. A guy you barely paid attention to and that you didn’t give much to do with other than that cartoon stupid shit, what else was he supposed to do? And I’m not an Eric Bischoff hater or anything, sometimes he’s right sometimes he’s wrong just like everyone else. Wrestling fans are really bad about picking someone they love and saying they’re always right and finding someone they hate and saying they’re always wrong which isn’t very realistic But I think Eric was dead wrong here because James never really got a fair shot in WCW but I think James Mitchell is a great pro wrestling manager.
I see him being compared to Gary Hart and Bobby Heenan, you would think with talent like that he would be successful. He seemed more like Oliver Humperdink to me.
I thought Sinister Minister was a great gimmick and he owned it, personally. Absolutely couldn't do the physical shit but otherwise great heel manager.
Bischoff can't talk after he sent Mitchell and Chris Kanyon out to die as much as I liked Mortis and James Vandenberg (and Wrath .a.k.a. Adam Bomb) they were just outshadowed by the nWo and I liked the Blood Runs Cold angle more than the nWo
I didn't like his run in SMW at first, with the mummy, until they more or less said that he was the only one who wanted people to believe that this guy was 3000 yrs old, and that he was full of shit. Then, instead of giving him a new monster when they didn't believe it and he dumped the mummy, he got Tim Horner, ninja-samurai....ugh. His promos were very edgy.
Look at the people Michelle was paired with in wcw their was no getting that shit over Michelle was far more entertaining then some mortal combat based charachters
The Sinister Minister was a big part of getting Abyss over. He was an edgy Paul Bearer and it worked well.
I believe the Sinister Minister was in ECW, not Impact!.🤔
@@bradpaton3927 he was in ECW. After ECW closed down, he went on to go to TNA.

I’m going to say that on my show tomorrow and give u credit. Amazing

James Mitchell should manage Brodie Lee. Not have him as a bodyguard
James Mitchell thumbnail is a thing of beauty
Father James is highly entertaining. He should be in a bigger organization. I thought he was going to be the leader of the Dark Order for a while
I think he's contracted to iMPaCT, if he's gone now, I wouldn't know. I know he's with the KOs last I saw him
To be real, he would have been a great choice.
Definitely better than Brody Lee....ijs 💩
