I’m so glad you love your cover stitch machine. I do have to hand stitch in all my tails still. Sometimes I have trouble getting mine to release my stitches. But I do love it. As someone in the US, I do not DBP because it is too warm!! I’m old enough that I have temperature control issues and I just find I overheat in it. So my 22 year old daughter has inherited the leggings and swing dress I made a while back. She love it.
Oh my goodness! Your second son sewing the pyjamas for his brother is my favorite part of this video!! I love that he did that! You must be so proud to have him be so inspired to give his time to sewing for his brother. What a wonderful boy!! 😍
Hello Amelia. I love all of your makes, and your little boy who made the pyjamas for his big brother for Christmas is just adorable. In regards to DBP, Lush Fabrics who are situated in Perth stock a lot of the DBP and other knitted fabrics, you can see what is new in stock by subscribing to their TH-cam channel. I am in the process of making a dress from DBP, from a pattern from Pattern Emporium called 'Dream On Tiered Dress', Pattern Emporium have a lot of patterns that can be made with DBP (and Pattern Emporium is Australian). You asked for a recommended knit dress pattern and I can highly recommend the 'Asta' dress by Wardrobe By Me. It is great to see you back on TH-cam as you are so inspiring!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! My little boy loved sewing up the trousers for his brother. I will look up Pattern Emporium - I have heard so many good things about their patterns, so I would love to give them a try!
Beautiful work Amelia! I’m in the US and have used DBP because it’s so easy to get. A few dress patterns I’ve used and like are McCalls 8064, Butterick 6621 (I have pictures on my Instagram page, if you’re interested 😊) and I want to try New Look 6650 next. As for Indy patterns, I have made the Galena dress from Styla Patterns (a free pattern) and loved it. I also think a Keilo wrap dress or the Estelle by SOI would work well with DBP. I think with DBP you need a pattern that has the tiniest bit of positive ease if you’re not looking for body-con type of a look. 💖
Thank you so much for these recommendations, I will definitely look into them - I have the Galena Dress pattern so I might have a look at that one first. Thank you!
Beautiful jacket. I have just made some more happy holiday pjs, great pattern. In December I made the Ikatee patterns Vienne gilet for my 5 yr old grandson It doesn’t take much fabric, good for scraps and is so versatile. I highly recommend it.
Lovely makes.Your padded jacket would also look gorgeous over a dress when your going out. Your younger son did so well making his brother pyjamas and it was such a loving thought. your daughter looked so cute in her nightgown and dress.
Happy new year Amelia🎉 about the jersey dress, what I do when I want to use a clingy fabric is to add a lining, it may be of the same fabric or a similar one or even if the design aloud it, I use compresion fabric, as it was an integrated control garment, that really makes me feel more confident in those really clingy, very thin jerseys, hope it helps 😉 btw the dress its lovely on you but I get it, I had many makes I didn’t use because they made me feel not quite confident, thanks for sharing your makes with us! ❤
Thank you so much for the suggestion! I think it might have felt better with a lining but I also think it might be the wrong length. I might have a think about it, but I also think I might end up repurposing the fabric and making something for my children!
Beautiful garments Amelia - so polished and beautifully finished. New Look 6650 is a great pattern for stretch jersey fabric. I’ve made it numerous times. It’s not such a smart dress as the green Christmas one you made - which looks lovely on you, btw. The NL pattern has a built in waist tie which covers my tummy and is very forgiving at hiding it! I’ve never used double brushed poly (can’t get it in the UK) but from what I’ve seen of it, it should work with this pattern.
Adore that black and blue gingham, i would live in that dress! 💙🖤 The shacket came out perfect with that fabric, so chic 😍 How sweet that your son wanted to sew for his brother!! Proud mama moment, i love it
Wow! You have been busy! Great makes! To be honest, I try not to buy anything with polyester content. Unfortunately, polyester takes 100 years to decompose, so it is a horrible landfill issue. I just can't do it. Having sewed with DBP in years gone by, it certainly easy to sew up. Love your Portmanteau Shacket. I recently purchased the pattern. Great idea to use quilted fabric. Beautiful print. ❤
So glad you liked the shacket - it was such a lovely one to sew and I hope you enjoy making it! I usually avoid anything with polyester too - but my curiosity got the better of me this time!
Beautiful makes Amelia. If you’re going to keep your phone in the jacket pocket put a popper on the pocket to keep your phone safe especially on your bicycle!
I absolutely love my Nina Lee Mayfair in DBP. I had a similar experience with you making the Cashmerette Grafton in DBP. It's way too clingy over my tummy. Hoping to get away with some spanx. We'll see!
That is so interesting to hear! I do think it was not the right fabric for that particular pattern. I am going to try refashioning it so that the fabric doesn't go to waste!
I love, love the Wanderlust dress pattern from Pattern Emporium. Have made 12 and have another 2 cut out ready for when my serger returns after its annual service. Happy stitching.
I love your jacket. It is sooo nice. I have bought the everyday dress so hopefully I can make mine up soon. I have also started giving my kids pjs at the startvof December after watching Tiffany from Hoosier Handmade. I think it's a much better idea. Love the pokamon blanket. I have made similar blankets only I use a cheaper fleece on the back so it's doubled sew right sides together then turn out and top stitched. They are our favourite blankets in our house. I love your makes and that you sew for your family ❤❤
I do not like double brushed poly. Same reasons as you. I made my grandson pj’s out of some nice quality DBP and he absolutely loves them. There is a difference in quality amongst DBP, but even so it is not for me. Love the Shackleton on you the fit is great. It looks very stylish.
That is so interesting to hear someone else that doesn't love DBP! I think I will turn the dress into something for one of my children as I think they will really like the feel of the fabric. Thanks for the suggestion!
Happy new year Amelia. Well I prefer to wear an underdress, sort of slip dress, under viscose jersey dress, even if I m thin I Don t enjoy the fabric hugging my body so much😂
My favourite knit dress pattern is the Pattern Emporium Wanderlust dress. I have made it in various jersey knits, including double brushed Polly and absolutely love it. I have never made any jersey dress in a solid though, always a print. I find all solid jerseys show your lumps, bumps, and undergarments, however, prints don't. And I have lots of lumps and bumps that could show. 😂
I like knit dresses in the Winter,I love the Southbank, minus pockets and the Givre, and The Avid Seamstress dresses I have just bought the Asta dress by Wardrobe by Me as I have seen some lovely versions sewn up on Instagram etc.Your French Navy jacket is gorgeous.🌹🌹🌹
My favorite jersey dress pattern is the love notions olympia dress. No tricky neckline finishing, lots of swish helps with the cling issue. I also wear a slip😂
As usual, all your makes are beautifully done. I have 2 jersey dresses that I love. One is the Georgie dress by Sew Over It. You can make it in Ponte and viscose jersey. I love my Ponte one but I also made a viscose jersey but don’t like it as the fabric really drags the dress down. Last year I made one in cotton jersey and I love it too. 😊 My other dress is the Sew Over It Edie top with the Georgie gathered skirt but you can just make any jersey top with a gathered skirt. I wear them both lots
Thank you so much for those suggestions. I have the Georgie Dress pattern, so I will look at that one, although it may be better not in a DBP if the viscose jersey was a little heavy for it.
Great makes - as always! I’m not in love with your Christmas dress only because I’m weird and can’t stand “cut outs”. You know “cold shoulders, key-holes etc” nothing to do with your dress or your sewing just a personal foible and too many years, way back when, with the nuns.🤪 The jacket is wonderful. I think I would like to see you wearing it over a black body and pants. Happy sewing and wearing.🦘🇦🇺
I totally agree about the cut out - I wish I had sewn the version with no cut out as I think might have liked it more. It was good to give it a try, as I have seen cut outs everywhere this autumn/winter, but I think this dress has confirmed that they are not for me! I will definitely pair the jacket with black jeans and my Elysian bodysuit - that will look really nice I think. Thanks for watching!
Happy New Year Amelia 🎉 Wow you have been very busy and you’ve made some fabulous garments. I’ll need to try the Wattle dress for my granddaughter Penelope as she loves a dress she can twirl around in ☺️
Thank you so much Lynne. I hope you enjoy making the Wattle - it really is such a wardrobe staple here! I do tend to size up for my daughter - she is a standard size 4, but I make her a size 5 as I find that the Wattle comes up quite close fitted.
Happy new year Amelia, I love all your recent makes and I love the double brushed poly cotton fabrics , have you thought of using the fabric from your green dress to make your daughter a dress and using the fabric that you are going to use to make your daughter a dress for you, I think plain fabrics tend to be unforgiving whereas patterned fabrics hide all underwear lines. It’s just a suggestion but it might make better use of the green dress fabric especially if you feel uncomfortable in it . Xx
Thank you so much Anne, I really like that suggestion as it would make good use of the plain green fabric! I might turn that into a dress for my daughter, or a t-shirt for my son. The floral fabric feels a little heavier weight too, so might look better than the plain green.
M&S have a great all in one bodysuit that will cure visible lines of underwear, I wear with dresses all the time. I do wear a bra with it tho otherwise it’s a bit flattening.
Amelia, your quilted jacket came out lovely! I do use DBP on a regular basis (which I buy at Joann’s). It is perfect as a Freya cowl neck top. I made a cream version and wear it all the time. I’ve also recently made the Sophia shawl neck top by Sinclair Patterns using a cranberry patterned DBP. Another favorite top of mine. I really enjoyed this video!
Thank you so much for your suggestions Maureen. I will look those up! I did wonder about sewing a simple top with the DBP and might refashion the dress into a top so I get more wear out of it!
Yes, I am still learning about how to finish the stitches - but it is a lot of fun!
Lovely makes especially the pyjamas, well done to your son for making the pjs, great video xx
The jacket looks fantastic and suits you perfectly!
Thank you, Louise!
Oh my goodness! Your second son sewing the pyjamas for his brother is my favorite part of this video!! I love that he did that! You must be so proud to have him be so inspired to give his time to sewing for his brother. What a wonderful boy!! 😍
Thank you so much Diane. He loved making the PJ's for his brother, it really was very sweet.

Thank you!
Great makes-all of them. Love that jacket!
Thank you so much!

I can highly recommend New Look 6650 - it’s not too clingy and because of the built in wrap tie is very flattering. I’ve made it several times.
Thank you so much for these recommendations, I will definitely look into them - I have the Galena Dress pattern so I might have a look at that one first. Thank you!
One of the greatest Sewist ever!!!❤🎉
That is very kind!
Beautiful jacket. I have just made some more happy holiday pjs, great pattern. In December I made the Ikatee patterns Vienne gilet for my 5 yr old grandson It doesn’t take much fabric, good for scraps and is so versatile. I highly recommend it.
So glad you love the Happy Holiday PJs too! I will have a look at the gilet - thank you for the recommendation!
That shacket looks awesome on you, a really great style!
Thank you! It is such a lovely pattern!
Lovely makes.Your padded jacket would also look gorgeous over a dress when your going out. Your younger son did so well making his brother pyjamas and it was such a loving thought. your daughter looked so cute in her nightgown and dress.
Thank you! I think I will definitely wear the jacket over my black ME2016 dress when I go out to a concert soon!

Thank you Mary. Happy New Year to you too!

You always finish everything beautifully Amelia. I especially love your shacket. 😊
Thank you Annette! I was so pleased with how it turned out!
Love your jacket ❤ and the colours are so you!!!
Thank you. I really love the black and gold!
Adore that black and blue gingham, i would live in that dress! 💙🖤 The shacket came out perfect with that fabric, so chic 😍
How sweet that your son wanted to sew for his brother!! Proud mama moment, i love it
Thank you - I really loved that he wanted to make a handmade gift and it was lovely working on it together.
I just finished using JoAnns double brushed polyester for the Hey June Halifax Hoodie. I love it - one of my favorite recent makes - so cozy!
I'll look that one up - thanks for the recommendation!
Love all your makes Amelia! That shacket! You always inspire me. I love everything French Navy, their sewalongs are superb with beautiful finishes!
Thank you so much. The shacket pattern is so lovely. I would love to try to turn it into a longer line coat too as I think it would look lovely.
Wow! You have been busy! Great makes!

Your makes are gorgeous, such a great dressmaker. Well done to your son sewing the pjs.
Thank you Lorraine! My little boy was so proud of himself, he really enjoyed sewing up the trousers for his brother!
Beautiful makes Amelia. If you’re going to keep your phone in the jacket pocket put a popper on the pocket to keep your phone safe especially on your bicycle!
Thank you, that is a good tip!
Great clip Amelia! Love all your makes. Still love the little dress you made with the fabric from the fabric swap so much ❤
Thank you so much Amelia. I really love the dress so much and it makes me smile knowing it came from the fabric swap - it was such a lovely event!

Thank you for the recommendation - that looks like a gorgeous dress pattern!
I’m new to your channel. Love love it!
Thank you so much! I am glad you are enjoying it!

Happy new year Amelia to you and your family. Beautiful makes as always. I, too love the French Navy Patterns. Thank you.
Thank you Mary. French Navy do make such beautiful patterns!

Such a lovely vlog Amelia 🥰 The jacket you have made is beautiful. I may have to try that out myself x
Thank you Ruth. It was such an enjoyable pattern to sew up.

I just find viscose jersey not that suitable for dresses. I find a thin cotton jersey tends to perform better. 😊
Great makes - as always!

KAM Snaps have some lovely poppers. Perfect little legs to go through several layers.
Thanks so much, I will look those up!
I think petals the DB poly might feel like being in a plastic bag
Surprisingly, it felt fine, and not too hot at all - just very close to the skin.
If I have any clothes that make me feel a bit self conscious I just wear shapewear underneath, Bridget jones big pants 😂 😅
That's a great idea! I think I might try shortening it a bit too - just feels a bit of a funny length I think.
M&S have a great all in one bodysuit that will cure visible lines of underwear, I wear with dresses all the time. I do wear a bra with it tho otherwise it’s a bit flattening.
Thank you! I will look that one up.
That looks like a knock- off of the Orage dress
That is the dress it reminded me of.
