  • In this video, we discuss the performance of our DR Power three-point trimmer. The unit was purchased for trimming fence lines that are made up of high tensile wire electrified fencing. I have a chance to show the unit performing the task of trimming the fence line and some of the challenges we discovered utilizing the trimmer in a real-world application.

I have had a DR Trimmer for about 5 or 6 years and I use it on my fence line also. I wish they had one for a skid steer.

That didn’t even go under the fence row. Already get that from using the zero turn

How big of a fence energiser are you using?
Asking because I think a lot of the time people would save money just using a bigger energiser and not having to do stuff like this.
We use a Gallagher M12000i 120 joule energiser for a big area of fence line, and unless you have actual wire on wire shorts it's putting out a minimum of 9 KV. Will just burn right through pasture and weeds.
Yeah it's a lot more money to spend on the energiser, but vs the cost of labour for a job that really doesn't add anything to your production it's worth considering.

"Thank you for your comment and for sharing your experience with the Gallagher M12000i 120 joule energizer. It's great to hear that it's working well for you and maintaining a strong charge even with vegetation contact.
In our case, we're currently using a Gallagher 1000 unit. During the dry season, we've observed the burning off of grasses on the wires, similar to what you've described. However, in the past three years, we've experienced excessive rain, and during these wet conditions, we've seen little to no performance in terms of burning the grasses that roll up into the fence.
Your comment has certainly piqued our curiosity about how a larger energizer would perform under these wet conditions, which represent 50% of our farm's pastured areas. It's a consideration we'll definitely keep in mind for the future.
However, it's important to note that the use of the DR Power three-point trimmer, as discussed in the video, is not solely about maintaining the electric charge on the fence. It's also about managing the growth of vegetation alongside the fence line, which can become a larger issue if not addressed. This mechanical method of control aligns with our commitment to avoid the use of chemicals on our farm.
We appreciate your input and the opportunity to consider different methods. Thanks again for your insight!"
