I bought one except it wouldn't work on my tractor because it wouldn't fit into the recessed zerks. I would think that the strings would destroy the posts at the bottom. I use weed killer.

Something most people don't know is that the end of the zirk adapter can tighten and loosen around a zirk. Similar to a collet on a Dremel or a drill chuck. The little fingers inside can move in and out.

Love that you left the zerk problems in...Dont have a tractor or the land to need one but if i did...dont think i would even bother with a weed wacker attachment like this. It really looks like after hitting a post it was missing a 45% angle after the spring back on the other side of each post. Great Video!

The grease gun end needs to be unscrewed to let the pressure off of the fingers. It will then let go of the zert. New fingers grip grip too hard to gave the barrel full tight.

I use a torch to maintain my fence line. You don't have to burn the weeds, you just heat them up and actually work best when the ground is wet. Not much faster than this, but seems easier and more effective. You also get to play with fire.

Beats the heck out of weed eating that fence line. I grew up on a 42 acre horse farm - had to trim I am guessing almost a mile worth of the visible/decorative fence. My dad could see a blade of grass I missed from 50 yards away. Great life growing up. I doubt he would have purchased something like this even if was available. My brothers and I worked our asses off keeping that farm manicured. Learned a lot.

This was a great review. I actually was thinking after I watched it I have gotten faster, albeit maybe not as close, results with the MMM on my B2601. The reason why I’ve figured the MMM works so well is because I can easily look down and see where it is. I worried about that with a rear trimmer and I think you’ve confirmed my fear.

One thing I can tell you about trimmer line as far as how long they last, round is usually your best option. The shaped ones are just pieces of the lien cut out. They have sharper edges so they might get you a little cleaner cut but they don’t last as long generally. It’s just less material and it just wears out faster. These tests are all done on handheld weedeaters but the round line lasted longer.

Lock'n'Lube (LNL154) now actually has a pistol grip gun that takes Lube Shuttle tubes, and comes with a Lock'n'Lube grease connector. Using a LNL adapter with a LS gun requires a M10-1 to 1/8" adapter. LS also does have the safeLock connector, which is similar to the LNL connector, but not as good. I replaced the safeLock on both my LS guns with the LNL connector.

    Hi Courtney,
The concept of this trimmer is good, but it seems a bit of refinement is necessary before it will be a great attachment.
Clamping some kind of flexible plastic rod on on your loader bucket to set a specific distance from the fence might also make using this easier.

Most hand grease guns have a screw collar where it attached to the zerk. You can make it loose and then put it on the zerk and then tighten it. You have to keep doing this or get it set at a happy medium and use it that way.

You’re tackling the same problem I’m now facing. Grass pastures with four-board horse fencing and several hundred fence posts. I may do what a neighbor has done - spray it and lay a 6-12 inch wide pine straw bed underneath the fence. It eliminates the ugly sprayed look. Yet, I’m not sure how much time it’ll save me.

I changed my grease gun tip to the opening kind, way better. The original tip stuck on. I took the whole tip completely apart and it still stuck on. As to the fence line trimmer, I tried a walk behind, but it is a struggle pushing it over bumps and holes. Still looking for something delicate enough to go around small orchard trees. Maybe a gas trimmer head with an articulating hedge trimmer.

Doesn't the guard kind of defeat the whole purpose of using string line? The reason for using string is that you can run it against posts, trees, etc. without damaging them. I really don't see why you wouldn't just use some type of blade instead of string with that setup.

Firstly, a lockNlube type coulper will solve the grease issue, or you can always undo the your existing coupler, use a spanner (wrench) & pair of multi grips or curved pliers to undo the cover (where the knurling is) & this will take some pressure off the teeth inside so it wont get stuck on like that. Secondly, here in Australia & New Zealand & I think a lot of European brands have the under tree (in your case a fence) already built into the flail mower, & usually has a proper blade set up on it, not wimpy cord! I'm Pretty sure Trimax in New Zealand make an attachment for both their flail & rotary mowers. Pivot point is a lot further to the outside & by that i mean closer to the tree of post end. Most of these set ups are used in orchards. You may want to look at Muhler in Germany or Austria, & various other European manufacturers, as they make roadside mowers that will amaze you. Lots are mounted on MB Unimog trucks

    • @Golfboy-ze3le

I called Trimax, and they only have offset ones. So the sales person didn't have anything else to offer. It would be helpful if any brand fail mower had a way to get closer to trees for trimming.

Hey glad i am not the only one with a new lube shuttle grease gun and had the same problem you had with the zerk...ended up buying a cheap Chinese lock and lube copy for now and replacing the end of my lube shuttle hose....the fittings either wouldn't go in the jaws or wouldn't come out without pliers...after just a few zerks i got frustrated and went the cheap route....disappointing from a $125 grease gun kit.....good luck, i think them and lock n lube in it together and maybe the same company? but i had the thought to myself... they put those grease gun ends on there so you get frustrated and just buy the lock n lube...or they get frustrated because you didn't buy the lock and lube with the kit......just my 2 cents worth...

A few others have probably beat me to it, but you've gotta get a LOCK-N-LUBE, bud. Small thumb lever opens the jaws allowing you to clamp onto the fitting, and grease away! I work in the aircraft maintenance industry in the military, and we use these at my unit. They're not great for tight area greasing, but work great, otherwise!

I can't think of a great means of keeping the weeds knocked back along fencelines. I think I'd likely go with spraying and call it a day. For some more "decorative" fencelines, maybe a strip of woven weed fabric pinned down and then covered with a stone mulch might be a reasonable solution. It would be WAY too costly and too much work for doing very long lengths of fencelines; but for an ornamental area near the house or such it might be a good solution.

Seems to work pretty well but if you put a 180 degree mirror on your tractor so you wouldn’t have to crane your neck to see what you’re doing the whole time. If I had fences like you I’d consider getting something like that or maybe just a spray tank with some Roundup. That would be considerably cheaper I would think.

I'm not seeing it with this eye problem. I have a spray tank in the back of the Gator that never needs the string replaced. A little bit of Cornerstone goes a long way. :)

i wonder : what would happen if one kept the grass at the fence untrimmed?

Simple zerk fitting to pull out like that, tells me something about the metal that was used in the manufacture.
