  • Do you struggle to cut the grass that grows under your wood fence? I have an issue with my shadowbox fence and think I found a good solution to quickly trim the grass without damaging the fence. In this video, I'm going to demonstrate the use of the Stihl RG-KM Reciprocating Attachment (AKA Rotary Scissors) to show you how easy it is to clean up the growth under my fence. Although this tool is a bit pricey, it sure beats the price of installing an edge restraint with stone under the fence. If you have this same issue, let us know what your solution has been in the comments.
    Thank you to Jordan from ‪@TheLawnTools‬ for helping me find one of these. You can see some of the content they created on TikTok here: www.tiktok.com/@thelawntools?...

    We ordered thick rubber mats custom cut to 12 inch wide the length of the fence. Keeps grass away from fence. Love it

    I only saw in a movie where they placed roof shingles under the fence to stop the grass from growing under the fence. Also saw a mixture of vinegar, dishsoap and salt killed the grass. I like the rotary blade!

      No, it’s part of Stihl’s Kombi Attachment System. There is a coupler on the shaft of the motor that accepts multiple attachments.

  • @Coldstrawberry

    how would you recommend cutting grass against a fence that goes all the way down? I can't get my lawn mower closer enough and the grass trimmer aint close enough or short enough either

    • @TheLawngineer
      @TheLawngineer  ปีที่แล้ว

      If it’s a shadow box style like I have, I would probably just kill the grass and put down stone. Or cut the bottom of the fence.
      If it’s a regular fence (no alternating pickets), then a string trimmer right up to the fence would work. Over time, It will damage the fence though.

    • @TheLawngineer
      @TheLawngineer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean, cutting through the dirt? If that’s the case, no. I have a few spots where the fence is in contact with the ground and the tool does not fit under. It won’t cut through the dirt, I’ll have to saw off a few boards that touch the ground.

    I would just have a gravel or bark at the base of the fence. Looks a bit silly with grass going right underneath it like that.. Almost must take forever to cut and blow all that grass away

    • @TheLawngineer
      @TheLawngineer  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I’m kind of kicking myself wishing I had done that before installing the fence. I’m debating on doing what you suggest, but it’s gonna be a lot of work with the fence in place. This tool does help a lot and it only takes about 15 minutes to go around the entire perimeter to trim and blow.

    1 gallon of 5% white vinegar, 1 cup of salt 1 tablespoon of dish liquid, preferably not antibiotic solution, mix all that together in his prayer. Let’s set for 10 minutes, spray that along the fence line, both sides, and you will not have any grass. That’ll grow there

    I think I would lay some mulch down. Mabe a few inches out so you don"t have to trim under the fence. Plus when you come to your fence post I would think there would be an issue with the grass also.
