- John McCarthy elaborates on his position to publicly challenge Ariel Helwani's comments on the UF 30 for 30 where Ariel stated that the UFC ran toward regulation after Zuffa took over. John takes the stance of being around the sport from the beginning while Ariel was still getting his journalism degree and educates on facts from that time period.

Ariel is obviously a sensitive guy which is going to put him in a position to be made fun of in a very alpha male tough guy sport. He makes mistakes but it’s pretty hard from what I’ve observed for him to admit those mistakes. That I find the most frustrating. Still a fan though
This is just a relevancy thing. Make a statement that you know will get a response from big John. Iron it out and say it was a misunderstanding in the end... All of the MMA news outlets will write about this and boost his views on his new shows.

I guess it was After DVD David vs Goliath that got me. Right after I went to the Video Store & Rented UFC 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 then lost track until Liddells 2nd Fight and Boxing started going to shit.
To watch the transition of Helwani from journalist to puppet has been very disappointing but undeniable.
To Ariels defense, he is saying what he's been told by others. He wasn't there, he was asked the questions. Maybe John should've been on that 30 for 30 answering those questions. I think he's making this a much bigger of a deal than it really is.

Damn, this was extremely enlightening. Big John needs to write a book. One more thing: You guys need to stop apologizing for telling the truth. Helwani is using a slimy tactic of trying to take the focus off the matter and onto his feelings to avoid the fact that he's a lying piece of trash who plays the role of journalist but is really just a UFC mouthpiece. The dude's a conniver who uses his 'nice guy' persona to make people look bad or feel bad when he gets upset.
One book would not be enough. You could literally write a whole book just on this episode about early ufc regulations. Another book stritctly on his funny/weird stories. Another about mma itself, refereeing it, teaching it. Plus a proper biography.

Big John is THE authority on MMA. I know that Ariel had to watch him on JRE talking about the early days like he did in this video. Luke also said when he brought the live chat back that he is not about gossip. So you are never going to hear what 'dirt' he has on Ariel.
@@lugzj3696 in my opinion, Luke is the most respectable online MMA personality. I believe both him and Ariel will always ask the tough questions and won't shy away from conflict. Where they differ is that Ariel always has an agenda against the UFC. He'll always ask those leading questions at the start of the interview to try and lure fighters into talking shit about the UFC or other fighters. Remember when Nick Diaz said, "that'll get you smacked?" Nick saw right through the bullshit.

@@lugzj3696 neither one of them are reporters or journalists. Their shows are made for entertainment purposes. Luke will obviously go much deeper and do a better job breaking down fights and showing technique. Where I believe they both fail is that they don't dig deep or do any investigative journalism.
Does that make sense? They're great at fight recaps and before the fight commentary but all that is basic and vanilla journalism. I'd love a deep look into what's going on at Jackson Wink and why fighters are leaving. Know what I mean?

Big John is the most credible source on the history of the ufc, more so than any owner, journalist or fighter; as his experience was unique and is absent of many of the biases that occur with other figures in the sport. And the guy is just an honest person.
