This is Tank Abbott. I’m telling the truth! As always!
Big John and these fools are utterly spewing nonsense. It’s so easy to do!
I’m here to say,
I will come on this show and prove it!
Set it up!
I would like to see what they have to say. In turn, I will tell the truth! 🤷🏻♂️ I’m waiting for you to get ahold of me!
Sincerely, Tank
All you big John lovers see if he gets ahold of me!
I feel an excuse is coming!
Let's make it happen!!
You are clearly a narcissist dude you're not God man. You act like you're the best thing that ever happened. And by the way get out that lie detector test so we can all watch you fail miserably

I like how big John clearly has an ego and doesn’t acknowledge that part 🤣 it’s funny too how he’s talking reckless about Tank now because he knows his health is bad.

Tank getting robbed of two UFC tournament championships is LIFE ALTERING shit. I don't blame him for being salty.
Considering what he robbed people of by beating them unprovoked in huntington beach bars, it's the least karma could take away from him...
I always saw John McCarthy as a dumber version of Tito Ortiz. 40 IQ Former Cop with flat feet that could not even dribble a basketball without blowing a knee out.
John McCarthy is a TOOL.

@madsocsci
Unprovoked? If there is a guy known for fighting anywhere let alone in a big city.snd you manage to catch an ass whooping by him You didnt innocently stumble upon an ass beating.
Like he’s known for
Big John was a Gracie follower at that time, it is how he got the job and being that the first UFC was invented to be a commercial for Gracie jiu jitsu I do t find it hard to believe that big John was invested in the Gracie name being pushed forward. Also what Tank said about big John standing him up before that was even a rule is true, that was the first time anyone was stood up for lack of action and there were some long ass boring ass fights before that that never got interrupted. The ufc didn’t like Tank, that’s a pretty established fact. I don’t think anything Tank said was out of line or some crazy conspiracy personally.
I’m kind of with this same line of thinking. I’m sure Tank got some things wrong, both accidentally from being smashed drunk all the time, and maybe purposefully just out of not liking John, but I can see it playing out the way he said pretty much. For the reasons you said, and you have to remember John was/is a cop. They know how to talk in circles and get people misdirected to make a conversation go a certain way they want. I think both guys were right and wrong in different instances more than likely. I don’t call Tank’s whole side of story bunk just because he got some things out of sequence, he was drunk ALL THE TIME 😂 of course he’s going to get the timeline screwed up, but like he said most of what he’s talking about is on tape.
Listening to what a drunk said who didn't know his limitations and had demons he dealt with by being basically mean and evil to anyone who did something he didn't agree with. John has good cause to hold a grudge but yet he has never brought this up until Tank started talking. People who were there at the time also back up Johns statements. Literally No One has backed up Tanks stories. So it is hard to believe that the UFC hated a guy they kept bringing back to fight and still run highlights of his and John hated a guy he hung out with AFTER all these instances happened. Alcohol and depression affect memory and emotions after excessive use and without treatment.
Tank was a bully. Look at him now, karma is a bitch.
Lol you just broke news.
Well neither her big John nor Tank Abbot were at UFC 1. So whatever its purpose was it has no bearing on their relationship
It's pretty obvious John's family was very involved in the UFC. Tank has had five strokes and a liver and kidney transplant. Cut him slack. I doubt either one of these guys could fight for 17 minutes straight in one fight. Not to mention that was his third fight of the fight.
I listened to everything Tank said. I think Big John has like a 40 IQ...and is doing the best he can with the marbles he has to work with. Scary the guy was a cop. Giving a gun to a guy that dumb............bad move
I'm older than Big John. I remember the reputation Tank had in Huntington Beach. I hoped that I would never run into him on the streets. He was a mean, angry man who wanted to fight all day long with anyone. He bragged about KO'ing people in bars. He was a menace. Yes, he was an alcoholic, BUT, not all alcoholics are violent. It's part of his nature. When he fought in the early days, I listened very carefully to what he had to say in interviews, and I studied his mannerisms. The vibe I always got was that he was an UNSTABLE individual, at best. When Vitor cleaned his clock, I could not be happier. The angry bully got stopped in his tracks.
Tank went to a lot of HB bars, but there was one that he was fond of, and that's one of the bars where he was fighting and many cops were called and they arrested him. PD knew him WELL. That bar has since gone out of business and has been replaced by a restaurant, but whenever I drive by the building, I think of Tank.
I've seen violent pot smokers.
True, for the most part Tank was just a bully that loved beating people up and he didint care if it was in a cage or not. He has literally admitted multiple times that his favorite fights were in bars. Naturally his alcoholism was bound to catch up to him.
@@hawaiianrussian1047 Yes, sir.
@@malus1426that’s like a seeing Bigfoot
@@malus1426 almost all domestic violence in my country caused by alcohol or drugs.
I see both sides of this. Tank was an admitted drunken menace. However, John obv was biased. John habitually stood up Tank's fights while he'd allow Dan Severn to lay on folks for 20 mins++. I'm not a Tank fan, but the man has a point about that. Standing him up possibly cost the man 2 UFC championships. So, Tank has a legit reason to be salty, IMHO.
John's fake laugh is horrible... Guilty
Tank was a bully. Look at him now, karma is a bitch.
Very arrogant
I believe tank. John for sure hated tanks attitude, remember John was a cop,of course he'd hate the lawless tankster. Plus I know for a fact he was a Gracie nut rider.

You da man Tank!
Big John is spot on, but I’m surprised you didn’t mention Don Frye throwing a fight to be able to beat Tank in the finals. It actually it happened 2x to Tank. He got screwed by managers fixing fights so they were fresher in the finals while Tank was gassed from the previous match.
18:54 I spoke too soon 😅
That is how it was done in the initial shows. Compare Royce Gracie's series of opponents in ufc 1 to the guy he faced in the finals.
@@wookiepie2285 the UFC only had a couple confirmed confirmed worked fights. And it was the managers. But the UFC’s way of fixing fights was brilliant favoritism matchmaking.
I have heard several fighters say stuff about John McCarthy. I think John was kind of a know it all type about martial arts, but in fairness many people were. The early days were styles against styles. Tank was a mad man and the first 5 mins he was hell. I do think Tank was the first to do gloves. He was also the first to use the fence. I always rooted for Tank. I was at the UFC event where he fought Steve Nelmark. Thought he killed Nelmark

Memory has much less to do with what actually happened. And more to do with validating our current self. Every time you remember something, you change it a little little bit, but over time that little bit, becomes quite a bit.
This is why eyewitness testimony is garbage and shouldn't be trusted.
Also, Tank thinking John is out to get him, John represents authority and i dare say Tank perceives all authority over him as unjust. And John was a copper.
It's why I listen to Tank's version and John's version and just shrug because I wasn't there and it's going to be practically impossible to know what really happened. To me they are interesting stories and not something I look at as fact
Eyewitness testimony it's strengthen with corroboration, for example when John said Tank was drinking that's his eyewitness testimony that's corroborated by Josh who has also seen him drinking , but yea were not recording machines. Memory does what you stated, but you'd have to concede that doesn't just apply to Tank, but John also. People are going to believe what side they think is more credible.

When you're a drunk u don't remember much 🙄
Or, you remember things in your own "unique" way, as Tank has ALWAYS done.
was waiting for this one😅
Tank wrote three books, "Bar Brawler (2012)", "Street Fighter" (2019), and "Cage Fighter (2021)". In them he changes all the names to avoid lawsuits but with the more famous people you can tell who their alter ego is. For instance Art Davie is "Big Bart Shady" and John McCarthy is "Little Winchell Duncan". In these books he repeats everything he said on Rogan's show and lobs many other accusations as well.
As a senior citizen I remember everything from UFC 1 forward. All the other promotions that came around as well. John's amazing when he digs into the archives and starts bringing stuff back that even the old s*** heads can remember. This is awesome from a nostalgic standpoint, but disappointing to know that one of the most beloved characters of the sport isn't quite on the up-and-up on what he remembers. It is also sad that he's going through what he is, all we can do is hope and pray for the best outcome that he can possibly have.
Thanks for another great one
Thanks for clearing it all up.
You guys are pitching a MICHAEL VICK betting site?! I'm starting to believe Tank.
I love Tank. Always have. I'm one of those fans from the mid 90s who was won over by his style and gimmick.
But if one thing is extremely apparent, it's that Tank lives in his own reality. I'm sure he truly believes everything he says, but Big John comes across as legit as they come.
I have NO DOUBT about anything McCarthy has to say here.
Great podcast
What about the time when Big John froze during the fight between Pat Smith and Scott Morrison. Thank God Pat stopped elbowing Scott on his own and stood up or that would have definitely ended in tragedy!
I believe at that time, the only way a fight could be stopped was the corner throwing in the towel.
@@ChrisLoXFB I'm not sure but I do believe other fights were stopped. I have to check. Good point
I watched Tanks interview on Rogan and through most of the interview I was on board with Tank and he was compelling, but at some point in the interview it became apparent that he has paranoid personality disorder. Everything is a conspiracy against him. And I even believed his story about John MCCarthy standing him up and then I sought out and watched that entire fight and Tank is full of crap on that. Most of the fight up until the point was on the ground and McCarthy had not stood them up until around the 15 minute mark. What destroyed Tank and winded him in that fight was a rear naked choke shortly before the stand up, which winded him to the point where both fighters were laying on the ground not doing anything... not trying to tap the other guy or tapping... and this is why McCarthy stood them up. Tank has an excuse for nearly all of his loses.
And to listen to Tank now, Tank would have you believe that he was this big UFC fighting favorite but he lost nearly everyone of his fights. Most of the fights he won were against new fighters who were out of their element fighters. I watched the fights in those days and they would make this big fuss over the guy and he'd come out and lose like always. He's possibly the most overrated fighter in UFC history. And now I'm reading through these comment sections and commentors are straight up lying and saying, Tank is the reason why I got into UFC. Complete BS. Oh you mean the guy who lost nearly every fight was this big inspiration for you... they're lying. They're just saying that because it's the pc thing to say because Tank is doing his rounds.
John u need to sit down for the next 2 or 3 years and write this down because u come across as a very fair and honest man and I think you'd be very fair about everything that happened we need all this history to be recorded by people like you ❤
Right, a history of the ufc by Big John would be a great book.
I posted here last week here, but what you just wrote made me think of something I should have included in my original post. By listening to Big John podcast after podcast, he has shown a PATTERN of accurate memory for small details of long ago. As opposed to Tank's pattern of having a "unique" perspective on past events. Tank's perspectives have always been "unique". One thing that both Tank and Big John do agree on is that those early tournaments had suspect matchmaking behind the scenes, to favor certain fighters in a tournament, as well as a couple of fights that were thrown.
Yall really just played a micheal Vick ad? Gtfo

I watched the Tank pod on Rampage's channel and really wanted to hear from BJM on it. Never thought I would, awesome guys!
JOSH, you need to go watch his interview on Rampages podcast. Jaxxon podcast. He had a lot more to say on there. He talked for over 2 hrs that day. He talked about John and Dana a lot that day. I would love to hear you and John’s thoughts on that one.
some great interviews from Josh! Really great stuff!
There's too much for John just to be playing innocent all the time. If standing the fighters up wasn't a rule why did he do it? That's huge in a fight. Fight altering and probably career altering honestly.
Bottom line; when Tank was on Rogan's podcast and for all anyone could tell, Tank was stone sober. However, in the vast majority of the incidents from which Tank now holds bitter animosity toward John McCarthy and others, Tank was absolutely drunk beyond. Trying to recall most anything and from long years ago that occurred while you were drunk, is bound to be (only) what you think you remember. In his interview with Joe, Tank more than once stopped and said "I've lost my train of thought", and that while sober, and in-the-present. I kinda' feel bad for Tank. He's always been his own worst enemy it seems.
Not accounting for the CTE duento fighting for so many years.
I agree with ALMOST everything you wrote. But in fairness to Tank on one and only one point, when he said, "I lost my train of thought", I can relate, because I am older than Tank, and although I am still a clear thinker, there are moments in the middle of a conversation that I do lose my train of thought, which I think is age-related. Very sad to say that even if we were never alcoholics, never became a fighter who developed potential CTE, and never did drugs, as we get to a certain point, things do start to slip from time to time. But overall, I'm going with Big John on this one, because I watched and listened carefully from UFC's old days. Tank, even then, always had a "unique" perspective about events. The one thing that they both agree on is that the matchmaking of those tournaments was suspect and did favor certain fighters over others. I'm glad I got through this post without losing my train of thought. Ha ha! Cheers.
There’s 2 sides to every story. And Tank was a drunk but no matter all the sh!t Tank did, he’s UFC Royalty 😂🤩
Big John associates himself with Josh Thomson, this situation speaks for itself 😂😂😂
So he shows a picture of his wife and tank together to prove tank was lying about he and her not getting along. Then later tells the story about tank and her getting into it and tank telling her he will fn kill her to prove tank was lying about that incident. Let that really sink in if it hasn't come to ya yet.
The Coleman Pete Williams fight is one of the more obvious examples of selectively enforcing the rules against Coleman, it’s on video, he allow Pete to hang onto fence to prevent takedowns
Mma fighters, especially back then are not normal people. You kind of have to be to do what they did. I think they have questionable judgement and I would take Johns word over tanks any day.
Exactly.
Everyone about to voice their complaints about Big John now
I wish y’all could squash this. It’s sad watching a grown man talk about his health yet drank himself there and Mr. M having to hear that again after 600 plus fights in the organization. We are to emotionally invested with our past failures. God Bless y’all.
John, well stated. I enjoy your retelling of events in such a professional manner. The frustration is obvious, but you struck the right tone. Josh, you've progressed so much from your earlier days in terms of your candor. You've got a bright future in broadcasting of any type, you handsome devil, you.
