Belko Juve maybe ... But it would depend on the rules ... Make it so unforced out of bounds counts against them so much that it would cost a round then I doubt it could be exploited very easily, but big john is right, fighters will exploit anything available ... And they probably should
Spent 30 years in traditional martial arts. Always striking/standing. Ended up with a hip replacement in my mid 30s. My biggest regret is never having tried ground work martial arts. I'm Scottish, we were slow in importing BJJ. But I wish I'd tried judo at least. I remember being around 15. Mind 90s and standing around talking to guys at a martial arts competition. One of them said "there's a new thing started in America I hear. Bringing all styles of martial arts together and fighting in one competition" I remember thinking, that'll NEVER take over from traditional martial arts. Never heard much about mma in scotland again for years. How wrong was I? Maybe not as big as boxing yet. But certainly better in my eyes. Leaves traditional martial arts in its DUST.. If I'd been born 15 years later, I'd loved to have tried mma
"You don’t get to choose the value of what you do in others’ eyes, so you have to take stock in knowing that doing the right thing is enough, no matter who notices." John McCarthy,
What a great show! Thank you Joe Rogan for bringing Big John onto your podcast. It was great to hear the back story of all of the first UFCs that I loved so much! You are the man. Osss

Glad we all *FINALLY* know now -- Royce wasn't "chosen" for UFC 1 because he had the "perfect" size. He had a 10lbs diff with Rickson and it was all about honor and who's student got attached to the W.
I loved when you admit that the second it starts your defending until your submitted.. this plays out in all aspects of life in its own way .. understand stand your strengths and improve your weakness but there will always be a person better in one aspect of your life ...
SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU STUPID FUCKING MINDLESS SHEEP who keep saying John "Look it" McCarthy!!!!! Why don't you kids learn to be leaders and not followers?
Love Joe... but he is on drugs when he said NGannou knocking out Overeem is more inpressive than anything Mike Tyson has done lmao. That's "crazy talk" as he says.
He is trying to hype Ngannou again. Ngannou and Tyson should not be mentioned in the same sentence. Put Ngannou in front of Joshua and you'll see the difference between a boxer and a heavy dude that can hit a bit.
Agree 100%. Prime Mike Tyson hitting that punch sensor machine... you'll have a new record. It was hilarious how they were talking about how much Tyson weighed, compared to N'Gannou all this crap, blah blah. It's like look... a professional boxer, a straight up BEAST in his day. Punch specialist. To insinuate N'Gannou is a harder puncher, or scarier puncher is hilarious. Not taking away from N'Gannou but that was some funny stuff. Huh Joe?! Lol. Has he ever seen Mike knocking people into another dimension?
Why isint big john in thw hall of fame?? This guy has refereed and been part of mma from its upbringing and now is in another mma comp bellator , and a former lapd
Ivan C my guess is that because John is still an active ref, when he retires or maybe before his last match they'll announce his entry, he's got that spot don't worry.
I lost count of how many separate people Joe called the “greatest” of all time. "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." - Inigo Montoya
Kurwin Saunders “basic” is a basic word for fundamental. I see your point, though. Basic sort of gives an inferior connotation, but in Gracie’s defense, he’s doing the basics, only with perfect execution.
Big John McCarthy is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and former television music competition judge, best known as the lead singer of the Boston-based rock band Aerosmith. 😂

I'm a long time MMA fan (since early 90's) and have appreciated Joe & John's work throughout. Both set the standard in their work. I hope to hear them together often!!!!!! Thanks!

Big John "Lookit" McCarthy.
SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU STUPID FUCKING MINDLESS SHEEP who keep saying John "Look it" McCarthy!!!!! Why don't you kids learn to be leaders and not followers?
Dan Maler daaamn.... Chill homie. Its gonna be alright.
Dan Maler take your meds schizo.
GD "obvious" Ambidextrous
I thought it was funny
Jesus BJM's a smart af guy.
Sean Hayes Nice deadlift lol
Love Joe... but he is on drugs when he said NGannou knocking out Overeem is more inpressive than anything Mike Tyson has done lmao. That's "crazy talk" as he says.
Funny Blunt Truth Podcast there is no way Joe could justify that statement if questioned on it
He is trying to hype Ngannou again.
Funny Blunt Truth Podcast on Bruce Lee videos I've had arguments with people claiming that Bruce Lee could beat up Mike Tyson
Funny Blunt Truth Podcast imagine prime Mike Tyson hitting a washed up Alistair Overeem you just imagined a murder
awesome podcast. great history!
Yes joe, the 12-6 elbow isnt as powerful as a spinning wheel kick, but who is capable of throwing 20-30 wheel kicks in a matter of seconds?
Me😏
Great point
Tje 12-6 is not even really the best elbow to use in that situation anyway.
Good fkn point, simple but good
Barbosa
READY....READY?!?... LETS GET IT ON!!! 😡
Why isint big john in thw hall of fame?? This guy has refereed and been part of mma from its upbringing and now is in another mma comp bellator , and a former lapd
Ivan C my guess is that because John is still an active ref, when he retires or maybe before his last match they'll announce his entry, he's got that spot don't worry.
i think he is kinda semi retired tho, he is been working in bellator as a commentator and he is pretty good at it!
I'm pretty sure he retired recently. I'm remember Rogan saying he was a few months back.
He did retire.
The fuck has him being police gotta do with it?🤦🏾♂️
I lost count of how many separate people Joe called the “greatest” of all time. "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." - Inigo Montoya
you forgetting "the nicest guy ever"
It's the same as people calling football /soccer players world class it gets thrown around to easy nowadays
Big John's insight is fascinating. This is one of my all time favorite Joe Rogan podcasts.
Love Big John and Joe. I've watched from the start and I'm still in love with MMA!! 💜🧡
Hmmm sound and vid is slightly out of sync.....
Poore Billy. Looks like you need to upgrade your core2duo brah......
I had the same issue
Same
same
At higher qualities it is fine but at lower quality it’s definitely desynced
I think fundamental is a better word than basic for Ricksons jiu-jitsu game.
This is the first time I've even seen big John in an interview..seems like an awesome dude.
DAMN! Two Titans of MMA sharing info and memories of their incredible careers!!! This is BY FAR the most interesting conversation I have ever heard! I feel so Blessed to have heard this! I'm a long time MMA fan (since early 90's) and have appreciated Joe & John's work throughout. Both set the standard in their work. I hope to hear them together often!!!!!! Thanks!
You mentioned you recommend 1.Iron Neck 2.Reverse Hyper machine, but I didn't hear the 3rd thing. The 1st two I never heard of researched it and are awesome. I'm assuming the 3rd one is too, so if you read this I would like to know what it is.
Steven Tyler has had some serious work done
that guy is wacked out of his mind, imagine meeting your childhood hero and it turns out to be steven tyler. Now that I think about it, he does kind of seem like a child.
Awesome podcast.
Takes a certain person with a certain voice for me to watched a full MMA podcast. Nice work, easy listening.
“Don’t cite the deep magic to me witch, I was there when it was written” - Big John McCarthy
Big John Aerosmith.
Amazing podcast has to be one of my favorites.
